Hi Everyone!

Disney rarely offers deals to the general public during its busiest seasons: Spring Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Easter. If you want to visit Walt Disney World when there is no deal for the general public, you will need to follow the discount strategies that are revealed in our online book, "Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation," to make your vacation affordable.

A REMINDER: Disney's Smoking Policy: Effective June 1, 2007, Walt Disney World and Disney Vacation Club resorts will become smoke-free environments. No smoking will be allowed in rooms, balconies, patios, lobbies, restaurants, convention areas and common areas. Disney has established outdoor smoking areas for resort guests. Violators will be charged $250 - $500 for deep cleaning and the replacement of bedding and curtains. Any reservations already made through Beth, our travel agent, or other agencies, including Disney itself, that had "smoking" requested will be affected.

Disney Cruise Line Arrives In Europe - Begins First-Ever Mediterranean Cruises

BARCELONA, Spain (May 24, 2007) -- Thousands of colorful fireworks filled the nighttime sky over Barcelona this evening as, for the first time, the Disney Magic cruise ship approached the Spanish port city nestled along the Mediterranean coast, signaling Disney Cruise Line's first-ever foray into the European cruise market.

In grand Spanish style, the 2,700-passenger ship was greeted by a fireworks spectacular totaling nearly 2,200-shells upon arrival to the Port of Barcelona. The Port of Barcelona will serve as homeport for the Disney Magic this summer as it embarks on brand new 10- and 11-night itineraries in the Mediterranean. These cruises provide families with a unique and hassle-free way to explore world-famous cities such as Rome, Florence, Naples, Cannes and Barcelona.

"This is a special way to launch our unique Mediterranean cruises," said Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin. "Our guests have told us they want to explore different parts of the world with Disney Cruise Line, and we're delighted to provide them with an authentic European experience combined with a fun, family-friendly cruise only Disney can deliver."

Continuing to offer a diverse array of itineraries, for the summer of 2008, Disney Cruise Line will reposition the Disney Magic to the West Coast for seven-night cruise vacations to the Mexican Riviera. Beginning May 25, 2008, the Disney Magic will sail 12-consecutive cruises from the Port of Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.

The celebratory fireworks show in Barcelona was choreographed to music that played upon Disney's rich musical history and celebrated the European destinations the Disney Magic will visit this summer. Thousands of local residents gathered along the Barcelona shoreline to catch a glimpse of the Disney Magic and join the festivities. A chorus of cheers filled the ship's decks when the show paid tribute to the newly released film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End." The film made its debut on the Disney Magic later that evening.

Disney Cruise Line guests sailing in the Mediterranean will find several new surprises including a brand new stage spectacular at the Walt Disney Theatre, a Mediterranean-themed deck party, European-themed activities for children and family-friendly shore excursions at ports of call. To prepare for the journey, for the first time ever, iPod users can find Mediterranean themed content--port information, travel tips and language guides--plus movies and TV shows in a special travel entertainment store created exclusively by iTunes for Disney Cruise Line.

"It was important to add new surprises for our guests during our first-ever European adventure," says Jim Urry, Vice President of Entertainment and Shore Excursions. "We looked for creative ways to showcase the international flavor of our destinations through onboard and excursion activities allowing the entire family to become immersed in the Mediterranean experience."

Lavish entertainment is a Disney Cruise Line hallmark, and two notable additions were developed specifically for the Mediterranean sailings. Mickey Mouse's dreams come to life in When Mickey Dreams, a musical spectacle guided by a cast of Cirque-like "dream seekers" at the Walt Disney Theatre. The show's unique, artistic nature will thrill guests, while a nightmare visit by the notorious villain Maleficent serves up a few chills.

One night during the cruise, guests will celebrate the summer in the Mediterranean at a carnival-inspired deck party called Party Paradiso. With the help of special effects designed to light up the night, Disney characters and performers ignite the spirit of fun and adventure as guests prepare to explore new horizons.

Youth counselors, who are expertly skilled at keeping children of any age engaged and entertained, will weave the cultures of the ship's destinations into many of the children's activities. Up to 70 new activities for kids 3-17 have been planned for the Mediterranean, including Crêpe-making, puppet-crafting, pizza-baking and mosaic tile-making.

Disney Cruise Line established the family market within the cruise industry when the business launched in 1998. The first two ships were purpose built for families to reconnect and recharge while creating vacation memories that will last a lifetime. From a theater featuring live musical spectaculars to a luxurious spa for adults and nearly an entire deck dedicated to children's activities, the ships truly offer something for everyone.

Limited availability remains for select Mediterranean cruises. Affordable Disney members can book Disney Cruise Line's next adventure, a special summer season on the West Coast in 2008 with seven-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera, or a magical 3-, 4- or 7-night cruise vacation to the Bahamas and Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Fla., by contacting Beth, our travel agent. Cindi writes:

"Hi John

I have been subscribing to the Newsletter since the very beginning. I only got the subscription to be able to live all things Disney vicariously. I live in Idaho & although I've wanted to go to Disney World for a long time, I've never really thought I'd be able to with airfare so high. Guess What?? I may just be able to go in September & I'm so excited I can just barely stand myself! I've found a couple of good deals on my own, but I've also contacted Beth to see what kind of magic she can work also...one can never be toooo prepared??

I have a couple of questions for you! First of all, a couple of the deals I've found do not include dining packages, and 1 does. If we opt for not getting the dining plan (I believe you have to book thru Disney to get it), what should I budget for as far as food goes? I was thinking $50 per person per day, but have been told that would be in a fairy tale! There will be 10 of us....6 adults & 4 children ages 5, 9 & two 12 yr old twin girls. It's always been my dream to be able to take my grandchildren to Disney World...boy am I excited. Another question...is it generally cheaper to fly on a Sunday or Monday? Thus far I have scheduled for Mon-Sat (Sept 17 - 22 2007) I have to turn in my vacation request pretty soon, so I can only be flexible till then!

Gosh, I'm soo excited. I know I have more questions, but I'll be going thru the info online with a fine tooth comb....so I'll probably be able to find most of my other questions there. Thank you so much for letting me live vicariously thru you and all the other members who have written in. Perhaps I'll be able to send my own travelogue in!!"

Beth can book your Disney vacation with or without dining. I see on your reservation form that you are going in September so you get free dining. Without free dining, we spend about $25 per adult. Our children are now adults, but figure $10 per child under 10. How do we spend so little? On most days we bring our own snacks (that we purchased at home) and bottles of water in our backpacks into the parks. For lunch we buy a soda and have our snacks; we eat breakfast and dinner at the food courts. This strategy allows us to dine now and then in a full service restaurant and not break the bank. It all depends on where you eat and what you buy. (See our "Affordable Dining" chapter in the book for recommendations.)

Flying Mon-Thurs may be cheaper since weekends are busier.

I can feel your excitement! We would love to publish your trip report. Thanks for being with us since the beginning. We're rapidly approaching our 400th newsletter. That's a lot of news, deals and stories over the years!

Have a safe and fun vacation!

From Disneyland To The Movies And Back Again! ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Fever Spreads Beyond The Film And Attraction To New Interactive Disneyland Adventures

A longtime favorite Disneyland Resort attraction is reopening May 25 with new swashbuckling adventures as Captain Jack Sparrow and his gaggle of mates take over Tom Sawyer Island and turn it into their own "Pirate’s Lair." The pirates will loot and carouse as they attempt to recruit island guests into their brotherhood of freedom and greed at Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island.

"The phenomenal popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has allowed our Imagineers and cast members to bring the classic Tom Sawyer Island pirate experience alive in new, entertaining and fun ways like only Disney can do," said Ed Grier, President of Disneyland Resort. "Through Disney’s signature brand of storytelling, guests will be immersed in a pirate experience like no other and find new ways to explore an island that’s been taken over by some of the most popular characters from the Pirates franchise, including Captain Jack Sparrow himself."

Pirates aficionados who are gamers also will find a bounty of buccaneer booty when a Disney Parks wireless initiative brings technology to life like never before. Created in partnership with Disney Interactive Studios for Disneyland and Walt Disney World, guests with a Nintendo DS™ and a copy of the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End Nintendo DS video game will be able to download content only found in Disney Parks in Southern California and Florida.

"The Year of a Million Dreams has been all about immersing our guests in the excitement of Disneyland, and this in-park videogame content is a groundbreaking way for them to participate in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ adventure," said Grier.

In Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End for Nintendo DS, players take on the roles of Captain Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner in a journey based on the events, environments and characters seen on the silver screen in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

Developed by Amaze Entertainment and published by Disney Interactive Studios, the game is rated E 10+ for "Everyone ten and older" by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and will be available at retailers nationwide as well as for purchase in the parks.

At Disneyland, half the fun will be discovering "hotspot" locations in New Orleans Square (hint: as every pirate knows, X marks the spot) for downloads that unlock new content such as unlimited health and "savvy" as well as fun extras and additional costumes. This special content is only available in the parks through Labor Day weekend and is accessible with a Nintendo DS.

Both Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island and the Nintendo DS in-park play opportunities are additions to the line-up of the new immersive experiences debuting in 2007 as part of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disney Parks.

Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island makes its debut day and date with the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the third film in the popular Disney movie franchise. Building upon the hands-on play and exploration that have made the island a Disneyland favorite for children and adults alike since it opened more than 50 years ago, Pirate’s Lair takes its inspiration from Tom and Huck’s pirate games chronicled in Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, as well as from Disneyland’s famed Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and the blockbuster motion picture series.

The Pirate’s Lair experience embarks when aspiring pirates traverse the Rivers of America in Frontierland on rafts -- with island maps in hand -- and head ashore at Pirate Point where they are greeted by Captain Jack Sparrow’s warning of his presence on the isle.

Guests will soon discover that Captain Jack has joined his fellow adventurers from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in a plan to overtake Tom Sawyer Island. William Turner has set up his blacksmith shop on Pirate Point and Elizabeth Swann has landed, as evidenced by her framed portrait, signed love letters and diary.

Quarrelsome pirates Pintel and Ragetti also have staked their claim. Appearing as special effects in the form of a pop-up head and a spooky skeletal arm, the pair attempts to frighten off would-be treasure-snatchers and other plunderers.

Cavern explorers in Dead Man’s Grotto will encounter ghostly apparitions, buried treasure and mysterious voices, as well as discover an ornate chest that holds the heart of the villainous Davy Jones. Brave souls seeking to claim the cherished chest will be shocked to feel the thump of his beating heart and hear the strains of his ghostly voice.

In a watery inlet alongside a ramshackle barrel bridge in Smuggler’s Cove, treasure seekers might spot a sunken ship. A closer look discovers a chest that can only be revealed by operating a hoist to lift it from its underwater nest.

Unwitting guests roaming the island may stumble upon a rather intimidating suspended bone cage, similar to the one depicted in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. However, this seemingly unfortunate situation could lend itself as the perfect opportunity to pose for photos as trapped prisoners of the cannibal tribe that menaced Captain Jack.

Down another path, guests may meet up with roving pirates seeking new recruits to take the Pirate Oath, as well as The Bootstrappers, a fun-loving band of rogues who are always looking high and low for sing-a-long participants.

Guests also should keep a keen lookout for pirates at other island landmarks like Tom & Huck’s Treehouse and Castle Rock, where -- as legend has it -- marauders have stashed their hoard of loot.

Captain Jack and several sly, cunning pirates take to the swords in "Jack Sparrow’s Swashbuckling Adventure," an interactive and high-energy live performance. During the show, Captain Jack tricks a fellow pirate into helping him retrieve a map from the Casque of the Unknown that leads to the ultimate buried treasure. A brawl ensues and the pirates engage in swordplay, acrobatics and a cannon battle in their quest for the revered map. The performance runs several times daily on the island.

The crafty Captain Jack Sparrow, his ruthless and cunning nemesis Barbossa, and Davy Jones, the legendary ruler of the ocean depths, continue to entertain Disney park guests as part of the "wildest crew to ever sack the Spanish Main" in the classic Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Tom Sawyer Island opened in June 1956. It claims the distinction of being the only attraction personally designed by Walt Disney.

Along with the arrival of Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, summer 2007 will mark the return of FANTASMIC! This dazzling adventure inside Mickey Mouse’s magical imagination is an extravaganza of characters, light and special effects. It will be performed on the Rivers of America around Tom Sawyer Island beginning in June. (Source: Press Release, 05/22/07)

"VIP tour pioneer Disney, for example, was the only company not to offer a tour with front-of-line access to rides. At Disneyland, our four-hour private excursion ($300 for a group of seven, plus park admission) got us preferred seating for a parade and an evening fireworks display... But the best the guide could offer when it came to riding 'Small World' or any other attraction was to help arrange for FASTPASS... or to hold our place in line while we hit another ride." "Walt Disney Co. China said Wednesday that it will release a Chinese-language movie, The Magic Gourd, this summer -- its first co-production with the state-run China Film Group. Angela wrote in issue #369:

"We had quite an adventure. We were in Magic Kingdom late on our first night at WDW and my 3 year old fell and broke his arm in the Winnie the Pooh Play Area. It was his first trip to WDW. So our week was not starting off very good. Then every member of our family, including the 3 year old with a broke arm, caught the stomach virus on different days. We did not have a single day on our vacation when our whole family felt 100%... I am writing to see if you think that WDW would do a little something special for my 3 year old. I just hate that his first trip to see Mickey Mouse was not very 'magical' at all. I thought maybe Mickey could send him a little note or something. What do you think? Thanks for your time."

Cindy, one of our subscribers, wrote in response:

"I am an avid reader of your newsletter. I am writing in respond to the mother who wrote in about her latest Disney trip and her child's broken arm and stomach flu. My husband, daughter and I are headed to Disney a week from tomorrow. I would be more than happy to send her child something from 'Mickey' to help brighten his day. Please feel free to forward my email address (and/or this email to this writer). If we can help spread 'the magic,' we'd be happy to."

>> I forwarded Cindy's message to Angela and Cindy sent us this note:

"I did get in touch with Angela and got her mailing address. We sent her son a package of goodies from Mickey and friends apologizing for his broken arm and asking him to come to Disney World again to have some fun. We were able to find a nice padded Mickey Mouse envelope at the post office, so it really looked like it was from Mickey. Angela said his face was priceless when he got it. We also sent a postcard from Mickey, but she has yet to receive that.

My husband and I had a great time spreading the Disney magic and it was wonderful to hear that it made Grayson's day. I had also shared with Angela that we received some bad news while in Disney and she offered to add us to her prayer list. It just goes to show that Disney fanatics are just very warm, giving people. Thanks for making the connection."

>> Thanks again, Cindy, for sharing the love!

Lpga Star Morgan Pressel Partners With Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks

Youngest major champion in LPGA history to make appearances at SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove

Morgan Pressel, one of the LPGA’s fastest rising stars, will make appearances in several Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks over the next year. Pressel will serve as spokeswoman for the parks’ "Champions" program, a campaign intended to inspire young women to excel in academics and athletics.

Pressel, 18, was born in Tampa, Fla., not far from Busch Gardens Africa. She spent much of her childhood in South Florida, where she regularly visited parks operated by Busch Entertainment Corp. BEC parks in Florida include Busch Gardens, SeaWorld Orlando, Discovery Cove and Adventure Island. Aquatica, SeaWorld’s water park, is scheduled to open next spring.

"I visited Busch Gardens many times growing up and I am delighted to now be in a position to bring some of the lessons I’ve learned in my golf career to visitors to the Anheuser-Busch Adventure Parks," Pressel said. "The ‘SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Champions’ program is a wonderful way to help inspire and guide young people."

Pressel will make appearances in BEC parks across the nation. Her appearances will include presentations to participants in the company’s "Champions" program, a campaign intended to inspire and honor young women who have committed to excellence in academic achievement and athletics. Pressel also has donated a golf clinic and dinner with SeaWorld’s Shamu the killer whale for a silent auction as part of the annual WildNIGHT fundraiser for the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund.

"Any success that I have experienced in my career has its foundation in focus, hard work and discipline. That is what I hope to impart to young women in my appearances in the Anheuser-Busch parks. You can do anything in the world if you are dedicated enough and committed to excellence in everything you do," Pressel said.

After a successful amateur career in which the then 12-year-old Pressel was the youngest player ever to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open, she turned professional in 2006. She won her first tournament, the Kraft Nabisco, a major championship, just 15 months later. She is currently third on the LPGA money list with nearly $500,000 in earnings this year alone.

"Morgan Pressel is a wonderful role model for young people in this country and an athlete that we are honored to partner with," said Keith M. Kasen, BEC President and Chairman of the Board. "We hope our parks do more than simply entertain people. We want our guests to experience something enriching and inspiring. That is what our ‘SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Champions’ program is about." Hi Everyone!

Disney Parks Launches First-Of-Its-Kind Programming For Interactive Cable Networks; Introducing Disney Travel on Demand

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts today announced Disney Travel on Demand, a breakthrough in original programming that combines innovation, storytelling and the power of interactive television to deliver a soup-to-nuts vacation planning and entertainment experience to television viewers, starting on two cable systems nationwide. The program mix will include episodic, reality and special event shows as well as concerts and celebrity hosts, all focused on the magic of Disney's destinations around the world.
The programs are designed to uniquely engage viewers with a variety of industry-leading interactive and entertaining components that showcase Disney Parks' innovation, Disney cast members, and the legacy behind all the magic. It will first be made available this month on Cablevision and Time Warner Cable network systems reaching more than nine million viewers.

"More than 50 years after Walt Disney used the new medium of television to tell the story of Disneyland, we're tapping into new media platforms to engage our guests," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "With Disney Travel on Demand, we're providing a great entertainment experience for the whole family and an easier way than ever to book a Disney vacation."

The hallmark of Disney Travel on Demand is a groundbreaking level of interactivity with audiences. On Cablevision systems, which will carry Disney Travel on Demand on channel 650, viewers will be able to communicate directly with a Disney travel representative from the comfort of their own homes with the new 'Talk To Agent' feature. With the click of a button on the remote control, viewers can request to have a telephone call back from a Disney travel representative to make all their travel arrangements at one of Disney's destinations: Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, and Adventures by Disney vacations.

Time Warner Cable president of media sales Joan Gillman said, "We are proud to welcome Disney as an anchor destination within Journey TV. Our customers have demonstrated a real appreciation for informative programming and Journey TV delivers."

"Cablevision's interactive fiber optic network makes it possible for a wide range of businesses to use VOD programming to reach customers in new and innovative ways," said Barry Frey, Cablevision's senior vice president of advanced platform sales. "Disney Travel on Demand is a perfect example of a preeminent brand using our advanced platform to have a powerful dialogue with consumers through the television." (Press Release, 05/16/07)

SUMMER SIZZLES FOR SEAWORLD AT NIGHT

Orlando, FL (May 2007) SeaWorld Orlando becomes a whole new park after dark this summer with four sizzling nighttime shows and dazzling dining options, offering something for everyone. SeaWorld is the ultimate place to cool down after long summer days boasting an all-new high-energy Shamu Rocks concert, Blue Horizons under the stars, and hilarious happenings as Clyde and Seamore present - Sea Lions Tonight.

SENSATIONAL SHOWS

Opening this Memorial Day Weekend, Shamu Rocks is a rock n’ roll concert of unprecedented proportions combining improvisational movements of killer whales with music remixed with some of the hottest rock stars in the industry including Jennifer Lopez, Savage Garden, Lifehouse and Shakira.

Driven by an urban beat and colossal effects, Shamu and a team of skilled trainers take center stage as killer whale performances transform the arena into joyous frenzy. Pushing the limits of a stadium performance through technical magnitude, animal feats and creative prowess, Shamu Rocks provides guests with a one-of-a-kind experience only SeaWorld could create.

Taking the performance to dynamic magnitude, a 3-story tail fluke flanked by four, 20-foot-wide rotating LED screens dominates the scene and showcases abstract visuals that can be combined to create an 80-foot-long panoramic screen, setting the stage for a colossal multimedia presentation. Nearly 100 speakers throughout the stadium provide an optimal rock n’ roll surround-sound experience.

The sun may have set over the horizon, but the sensational extravagance of Blue Horizons still dazzles in the dark. An all-new theatrical lighting system transforms the show into a glowing scene of a girl’s dream to swim like the dolphins and soar like the birds. Filled with action both above and below the water, a cast of divers and aerialists plunge off the elaborate set with amazing aerial artistry.

Not wanting to be left out of the summer fun, SeaWorld’s popular sea lion comedy duo takes the laughs into the night as they star in Clyde and Seamore Present - Sea Lions Tonight. Hilarious hijinks ensue in this evening show as the park’s talented sea lions, otters and walrus parody other favorite SeaWorld shows.

An evening at SeaWorld culminates with the largest finale in the park's history. Mistify brings to life the majesty of the sea in a way only SeaWorld can, by immersing guests in a vivid underwater adventure that encompasses both sea and sky. SeaWorld’s center lake is stage to the spectacular, featuring larger-than-life marine creatures on 60-foot mist screens, 100-foot fountains, flames on water and dazzling fireworks. From the shores of The Waterfront seaport village, Mistify soars against a backdrop of stars as it conveys the incredible power and beauty of an underwater wonderland as seen through the imagination of a young child.

UNIQUE NIGHTTIME DINING

Guests can stroll along The Waterfront during the evenings to soak in a colorful mosaic of sights, sounds and flavors -- all infused with the fun and festive spirit of the Mediterranean. Bustling with activity, this 5-acre nautical neighborhood immerses guests in a rich tapestry of festive strolling entertainment, dining and shopping.

Diners can journey into the exotic world of the South Seas as the sun sets at The Waterfront’s SeaFire Inn. The nightly Makahiki Luau is a bountiful celebration filled with ancient customs, rhythmic music and dance, authentic costumes and the delectable cuisine of the Pacific Islands.

For those who prefer adventure served with dinner, some of the park’s most popular restaurants allow guests to dine alongside animals. For a true dining adventure, Backstage at Believe allows guests to eat buffet-style alongside killer whales and Shamu trainers, ask questions and observe training sessions in an exclusive backstage setting. Guests also can dine within inches of more than 50 sharks at "Sharks Underwater Grill," an upscale restaurant that immerses guests in an underwater world. The full-service restaurant features a "Floribbean-style" menu that blends Caribbean and Florida fare with an emphasis on seafood. Park admission is required for both "Backstage at Believe" and "Sharks Underwater Grill." (Source: Press Release, 05/03/07)

TAMPA, Fla. (May 11, 2007) - Just in time for Mother’s Day, Busch Gardens Africa will introduce guests to two new additions: a baby bongo antelope and a new Dromedary camel. Both were introduced to their new habitats with their mothers Friday morning.

Maverick, a male bongo antelope, was born Friday, March 23, to mother Molly. Since Maverick’s birth, mother and baby have been in an area off guest view to allow them time to bond. The pair joins three other bongo antelope on the park’s 65-acre Serengeti Plain.

Busch Gardens’ Serengeti Plain is a naturalistic habitat featuring a diverse population of free-roaming African animals including giraffe, zebra, white rhinoceros, eland antelope and several other species of hoof stock and birds.

Busch Gardens participates in the American Zoo and Aquarium Association’s (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) for bongo antelope. The SSP is a cooperative population management program designed to maintain the genetic diversity of threatened and endangered species.

Roxy, a female Dromedary camel, was born Thursday, April 19. Roxy is the first baby for mother Marian and brings the adventure park’s total number of Dromedary camels to four. The pair reside in the Nairobi area of the park.

Baby camels are born without a hump. Camels store fat in their hump, not water, and this layer of fat will not develop until the baby begins eating solid food.

Quinceañera parties, the traditional Latin coming-of-age celebrations, have arrived at the Walt Disney World Resort.

From a fully-customized celebration based on a family’s ideas to pre-designed, themed quinceañera events that take away all the worry of planning, Disney is offering these tradition-steeped extravaganzas for girls turning age 15 - a passage from flat-soled shoes and dolls to high heels, elaborate gowns and young womanhood.

For Disney, already experienced in creating lavish occasions such as weddings, offering quinceañera celebrations to the Hispanic community is a natural. With more than a million Latinas turning 15 in an average year, many may want to combine this tradition with the family fun of Walt Disney World Resort while celebrating their Quinceañeras at the Vacation Kingdom.

Working with Disney event planners, guests can enhance any event with memorable options such as superb elegance befitting a real princess, Cinderella’s enchanted crystal coach, and much more. And, with a variety of magical settings and venues - from grand ballrooms to intimate spaces in resort hotels to one-of-a-kind locations at Disney’s MGM Studios and EPCOT theme parks - Walt Disney World offers nearly limitless possibilities.

Disney-designed quinceañeras include everything from Disney-style entertainment and food-and-beverage menus to fairy tale linens and specially designed centerpieces, with three choices of theme:

A Reflection of You - Your quinceañera in the midst of the world’s most spectacular fireworks displays; Illuminations: Reflections of Earth at EPCOT. Here the quince girl and her closest friends will enjoy decadent desserts while experiencing Disney’s premier nighttime spectacular in a private setting overlooking the majestic World Showcase Lagoon. Guests will be captivated by the magical merging of eleven different cultures from around the globe in this unique setting for the ultimate quinceañera gathering, starting at $1,800.

Dancing with a Star - Your quinceañera celebration dazzles at a designated Disney resort hotel or theme park with a hip, multilingual DJ spinning the latest tunes. With a variety of delicious menu options available, this quince party can be either reception style or light buffet dinner with talented Disney chefs preparing an unforgettable meal for the group, at a starting price of $6,900.

Belle of the Ball - A Quinceañera-dream-come-true, when she becomes princess of this majestic ball. Trees lavished with twinkle lights, floor length linens pixie dusted with Organza, chair covers with sash, artistic center pieces at the tables, tiered cake, photography, and other elements will make the dining and dancing guests feel like they are in a true royal gathering. Available to groups of 100 or more celebrants, Belle of the Ball is priced starting at $20,000. This traditional ceremony of the quinceañera can be enhanced by a Cinderella Castle Facade, Storybook Entrance, Horse Drawn Carriage and favorite Disney Characters.
To celebrate the launch of this new offering, the resort treated a group of lucky debutantes to a memorable quinceañera on Tuesday, May 1. A part of "The Year of a Million Dreams" celebration, A Dream Come True Quinceañera honored 15 girls selected from all over the United States and Puerto Rico through an essay contest with the help of Hispanic media partners.

For this very special occasion, Walt Disney World Resort created the most magical quinceañera party ever planned in any Disney park. It was an unprecedented all-Spanish language-event at the Magic Kingdom Cinderella Castle stage, where dads ceremoniously changed flat shoes for high heels and waltzed with their daughters as they reached young womanhood. The memorable evening included a dinner reception in Fantasyland, with Mariachis, hip DJ music, a serenade by Grammy Award Winning pop sensation Fonseca and a nearly eleven-foot tiered cake. A fabulous fireworks finale lit up the skies as the Quinceañeras were whisked away in horse-drawn carriages down Main Street USA, with the rising sun.

The popular "Show de Cristina" on the Univision Spanish language network will air a special edition, A Dream Come True Quinceañera, on May 28 at 10 p.m. ET. Talk show host Cristina Saralegui had the honor of being the Madrina (Godmother) of the enchanted celebration.

David’s Bridal, the nation’s leading bridal retailer, was also involved, making sure each of the 15 girls was dressed in a manner befitting a princess. They provided a quinceañera gown and tiara to each. Airfare for quinceañeras and their families was provided courtesy of Southwest Airlines.

"We are really proud to bring to life an event as significant as A Dream Come True Quinceañera during the celebration of ‘The Year of a Million Dreams’ at the Disney Parks," said Denise Godreau, Senior Vice President of Global Multicultural Marketing for Disney Parks. "This event without precedent, combined the magic and the enchantment of Disney with the beautiful tradition that has so much significance for Hispanic families." (Source: Press Release, 05/02/07)

Sue writes:

"We’ve just returned from Orlando and visited most of the Disney attractions there. I bought my granddaughter some Mickey Crocs and they had some little charms that you could purchase and stick on the top of the shoes. We bought four or five and she lost them on our long flight home. She is crushed and wants to have me buy some new ones now that we’ve returned from Orlando. Can you please tell me where I can find these to purchase on the web site because I simply cannot even find that you have Mickey crocs available on line. Help, this is a major issue in our house!!"

Busch Gardens’ most popular summer event presents three months of special entertainment and coasters in the dark

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is celebrating five years of hot summer days and cool Summer Nights with the park’s most ambitious summer event ever. Three months of extended evening hours run May 25 through August 19 as the 335-acre adventure park fills with the sights and sounds of special musical entertainment, festive food and drink, and the opportunity to challenge thrilling coasters in the dark.

As the sun sets, SheiKra takes riders 200 feet up into the night sky for a breathtaking view of the Tampa Bay skyline… right before diving into the dark at a pulse-pounding 70 mph. Starting June 16, America’s First Dive Coaster introduces a new point of view with completely floorless cars: Nothing above you but sky. Nothing below you but earth. And nothing like you've ever experienced.

In the shadow of SheiKra, Stanleyville Theater lights up the night with the amazing agility of the Dragon Pond Chinese Acrobats. These young artists return with an all-new show that unites traditional tumbling and balance skills with a contemporary flair that has earned them invitations to perform on four continents.

Over in Timbuktu, the Desert Grill presents a dizzying selection of comedic jugglers, with new acts appearing every few weeks. And guests are invited to get into the action wherever Summer Nights Celebration appears. You never know where this group of dancers and stilt walkers will show up, bringing their exotic choreography and elaborate costumes to the streets and teaching the crowd a couple of new moves. Add four DJ locations playing pop, Top 40, dance and ‘70s & ‘80s hits throughout the park, and Summer Nights is non-stop excitement under the stars.

New in 2007, Summer Nights is adding two evening concerts in June. On June 2, the B-52’s bring their unique retro appeal to Busch Gardens, performing chart-toppers such as "Love Shack" and "Roam." Then, KC & the Sunshine Band shake, shake, shake Gwazi Park on June 9. For America’s birthday, Busch Gardens will present two more concerts and fireworks in Gwazi Park on July 3 and 4. The Guess Who present popular hits like "American Woman" and "These Eyes" on July 3. Then, Grand Funk Railroad celebrates Independence Day with "We're an American Band," "Loco-motion" and more. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. Park hours are extended until 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 p.m. weekends May 25 through August 4, and from 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 p.m. weekends August. 5-19. Playhouse Disney Live! Brings Disney Channel Favorites Together on Stage to 70 U.S. Cities in Their First Live Touring Production

Playhouse Disney Live!, the first U.S. live touring stage production featuring favorite characters from four shows in Disney Channel's popular Playhouse Disney program block for preschoolers, is set to launch a 70-city tour this September, it was announced today by Thomas Schumacher, president of Disney Theatrical Productions, and Kenneth Feld, chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment.
Produced by Feld and his daughter, Alana Feld, for Feld Entertainment, in conjunction with Disney Theatrical Productions, the show spotlights characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins and Handy Manny, as well as the stars of a brand new show premiering this month, My Friends Tigger & Pooh. Tickets for all 2007 U.S. engagements will go on sale Tuesday, May 15th.

Playhouse Disney Live! represents the first time that characters from this enormously popular block of Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney programs will be together on the same stage, creating interactive moments for children and their families. The original storyline follows this colorful cast as they set off in their own unique ways to create and contribute songs and music for an unforgettable musical party at Mickey's Clubhouse.

"Playhouse Disney Live! brings these TV shows to life and engages children in an inspiring experience with the characters they love to watch on Disney Channel every day," said Producer Kenneth Feld. "They will feel as if the 'Playhouse Disney' stars jumped out of the screen and onto the stage right before their eyes. From Mickey and pals to the globe-trotting Little Einsteins, everyone comes together to share the universal language of music with children everywhere."

Thomas Schumacher added, "We love working with Kenneth Feld and Alana Feld and they demonstrate time and again why they're the best in the business. Feld Entertainment does an outstanding job bringing the Disney characters to life and Playhouse Disney Live! gives them a great new cast to work with. Fans all over the country are going to have a wonderful experience seeing their 'Playhouse Disney' favorites perform live in this imaginative and fun- filled new stage production."

"We are excited to bring these popular Disney Channel shows together in a live production that will tour an unprecedented 70 cities in one year," said Producer Alana Feld. "We combine all of the familiar faces that families already know and love in an original storyline that is jam-packed with upbeat music, singing and dancing, from our very own 'Playhouse Boogie' dance to the well-known favorite 'Hot Dog!' song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse."

Rich Ross, President, Disney Channel Worldwide, said, "We're thrilled that this wonderful new stage tour will extend the connection preschoolers and parents have with our Playhouse Disney storytelling and that through it, families can share the unique experience of a live stage production and their favorite Playhouse Disney music and characters."

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is the top-rated series on basic cable among kids 2-5, followed by Handy Manny in the number two spot. Little Einsteins ranks #1 in its primary time period among all basic cable with kids 2-5, girls 2-5 and boys 2-5, beating other children's programming in head-to-head competition.

To produce Playhouse Disney Live!, the Feld father-daughter duo called upon the talents of a creative team consisting of:

-- Nancy Gregory (Director/Choreographer) Directed such Hollywood films as The Little Rascals and Harry and the Hendersons, and served as music producer for the 1990s revival of The Mickey Mouse Club;

-- Kevin Campbell (Writer) Writer for Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, House of Mouse and the upcoming Untitled Clone Wars TV series in collaboration with Producer George Lucas;

-- John Morgan (Lighting Designer) Two-time Emmy(R) Award-winning lighting designer whose projects span from TV shows to live concerts and theatrical events, and include Doodlebops Live! and Fox's American Idol;

-- Scott Lane (Costume Designer) Designed for several Disney On Ice productions including Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar's Finding Nemo and Disney On Ice presents Disney/Pixar's Monsters, Inc., and worked for seven years with the Tournament of Roses Parade;

-- Jeff Hall (Production Designer) Contributed his talent to establish the current look of the NFL Channel network and designed a number of reality TV show homes, including those found in America's Next Top Model, Last Comic Standing and Project Runway.
