Hi Everyone!

Beth, our travel agent, writes about Magical Express:

"This little tidbit is VERY important!

We're told that the first mailing of Magical Express baggage
tags has been delayed. It is imperative that those who want
to take this complimentary airport transportation service
from the Orlando International airport to their Disney
resort have their bags tagged with the correct tags. The
Magical Express tags are **** NOT ***** the ones that come
with your Magic Your Way package documents. Those tags (one
per person) are just for you to use as you see fit. You
should receive the Magical Express tags in a separate
mailing.

If you are leaving within 10 days and have not yet gotten
your baggage tags, and you're certain that you gave Disney
or your travel agent your flight information, then contact
your travel agent right away, or if you didn't use one
contact the company operating the Magical Express service
toll free at 1-866-599-0951."

WALT DISNEY WORLD

"Disney Cruise Line will introduce its special brand of
cruising to a new market and new customers when the Disney
Magic sets sail for California on May 14 as part of the
50th-anniversary celebration of Disneyland...While Disney is
considering adding a third ship to its fleet, no deals have
been worked out with shipbuilders, largely because of an
unfavorable exchange rate between the dollar and the euro.
Most large cruise ships are built by European companies."

Essays on Walt Disney with Photos

In Walt Disney's Missouri...

"Marceline, in north central Missouri, is a town of
around twenty-five hundred people, its population today
about the same as it was when Elias Disney moved his family
there ninety-nine years ago... Marceline... still feels much
like the town that Walt Disney enjoyed as a boy, almost a
century ago. Were he to come back today, he would have no
trouble finding his way around." (Source:
michaelbarrier.com, 04/04/05) For the rest of the story,

"Walt Disney spent the better part of a dozen years in
Kansas City, living there most of the time from 1911 to
1923... The point of visiting places like the Disney sites
in Kansas City is to step back in time and connect with the
lives of people long dead. Although Kansas City as a whole
is prosperous and attractive, Walt Disney's old neighborhood
is so badly blighted - and so radically different from what
he knew - that making that imaginative leap back to 1922 is,
I'm afraid, very difficult." (Source: michaelbarrier.com,

DISNEYLAND HONG KONG

Disney has designed the park with respect to the local
culture:

"When building the new entrance to Hong Kong Disneyland,
Walt Disney executives decided to shift the angle of the
front gate by 12 degrees. They did so after consulting a
feng shui specialist, who said the change would ensure
prosperity for the park. Disney also put a bend in the
walkway from the train station to the gate, to make sure the
flow of positive energy, or chi, did not slip past the
entrance and out to the China Sea." (Source: New York Times,
04/25/05) For the rest of the story, click here.

"Inside the Lin home and many others in China, there is a
distinct generational, cultural and economic divide - and it
figures to be a major challenge for Walt Disney Co. and
other Western companies trying to sell entertainment in the
world's fastest-growing emerging consumer market.

If Huanbin [their son] receives too much Western culture, in
the future he may not cherish family relations, forget his
ancestors and not go back to our hometown," Lin Zhengguang
says." (Source: latimes.com, 04/21/05) For the rest of the
story, click here.

"The Disneyland theme park due to open in Hong Kong in
September will "suffer from constant haze" because of
worsening air pollution over Hong Kong and southern China,
according to a report released yesterday by CLSA, the
investment bank." (Source: ft.com, 04/20/05)

the Disney Magazine has ceased publication as of last week.
I read that a mass mailing is going out to all subscribers

unread issues, or 2) they can get a subscription to a
"family" magazine instead."

Yes, it looks like ezines like ours, The Disney News, are

Cynthia writes:

"Dear John, My parents are going to be at WDW tonight (April
25) and tomorrow in celebration of their 45th anniversary. I
heard that Narcoossee's at the Grand Floridian was a good
place to get dessert and view the fireworks so they have
seating there for 9:30 pm tonight. However, they have asked
if you know of a better place to view them, perhaps even a
location within the park where they could have a seat, but
not necessarily a restaurant. Any info you have is
appreciated. Just trying to give them a magical time on this
mini- honeymoon trip. Thanks!"

Have them go to Toontown in the Magic Kingdom and watch them
from there. If they're early enough they can grab one of the
benches!

Cynthia wrote back:

"Thanks John for the reply. I spoke with them last night and
they had decided to go on to Narcoosee's in hopes of seeing
the fireworks from there.

I called the restaurant before hand and told them that my
parents had priority seating and that it was their 45th
anniversary, and honeymoon. I asked if they could
acknowledge the occasion to make it special for them.

From the account I received from my folks, the staff came
through. When my parents arrived, the gentleman at the
podium greeted them with congratulations and said that they
were holding for them the best table in the house. That of
course thrilled my father. The server then brought them a
menu and printed right on the menu was "Happy Anniversary
Alton and Gayle!"

After Dad ate his flavorful clam chowder and Mom her fresh
greens, the server brought a delicious key lime dessert with
a candle and more congratulations. The dessert was on the
house!

Soon after, the lights went down and the music from the
Magic Kingdom began. My parents sat at their "best table in
the house," and enjoyed the much anticipated fireworks;
after which the restaurant erupted in applause.

When I spoke to them later, they were strolling back to
their room at the French Quarter and could not say enough
about their fabulous day and evening at Walt Disney World.

They have one more day and are planning to attend the flower
and garden festival at Epcot. I'm sure today will be magical
as well.

Thanks again for the great book and information you give. We
have been to WDW three times since buying the book and
learning from the many tips you provide. We have saved money
and time, and you have enriched our Disney experiences. God
bless you and yours."

I love a happy ending! Thanks again, Cynthia, for your kind
comments!

Beth, our travel agent, writes about passports:

"You may have heard rumors about upcoming changes to the
rules about who needs a passport and when. Nothing is
written in stone yet, but you can bet that there WILL be
more strict rules enacted, and eventually you will need a
passport each and every time you leave the country. So I am
strongly advising that anyone who knows they will be
traveling out of the country in 2006 and beyond, or who
thinks it's a definite possibility, go ahead and get a
passport NOW if you don't have one.

It's really not a difficult thing to do, and I predict that
the wait time to get one will steadily increase as the year
goes on. If you wait until you need one you may be out of
luck! Please read the following short article I received
from Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) for
additional information, and please pass it on to friends and
family who may be interested.

What are the new passport requirements?

On Tuesday, April 5, 2005, the U.S. State Department
announced details of the proposed "Western Hemisphere Travel
Initiative." If the proposed rules are enacted, U.S. and
Canadian citizens will be required to carry a passport for
travel to or from certain countries/areas that were
previously exempt. The proposed implementation is as
follows:

* December 31, 2005 - Passport required for all air and sea
travel to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South
America.

* December 31, 2006 - Passport required for all air and sea
travel to or from Mexico and Canada.

* December 31, 2007 - Passport required for all air, sea and
land border crossings.

Once the proposed rules are finalized - either in their
current form or a modified form - the cruise industry will
communicate that information to our travel agent partners
and guests. In the meantime, individuals with future travel
plans that would be affected by the proposed new rules are
strongly encouraged to obtain a passport now.

You may print a passport application or get additional
information from the government on this subject by visiting:
http://travel.state.gov/passport

Please check back on our web site for future updates."

News From Around The "World"

WALT DISNEY WORLD

"Born in the labs of Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucky the
Dinosaur is loose in the streets of Disney's Animal Kingdom!...

Lucky represents the latest innovation in Audio-Animatronics
design and is the first Disney character of its type to walk
freely and personally interact with children and families.
After a prototype test period in California, Lucky comes to
Walt Disney World Resort for a limited engagement to help
launch the "Happiest Celebration on Earth," a global salute
to 50 years of Disney park magic.

* Lucky the Dinosaur is 9 feet tall and weighs 450 lbs.
* Lucky is the first Disney Audio-Animatronics figure to
walk freely.
* Lucky can sniffle, burp, hiccup, sneeze, yawn, cough,
giggle, snort, purr and talk."

Essays on Walt Disney with Photos

In Walt Disney's Missouri...

"Marceline, in north central Missouri, is a town of
around twenty-five hundred people, its population today
about the same as it was when Elias Disney moved his family
there ninety-nine years ago... Marceline... still feels much
like the town that Walt Disney enjoyed as a boy, almost a
century ago. Were he to come back today, he would have no
trouble finding his way around." (Source:
michaelbarrier.com. 04/04/05) For the rest of the story,

"Walt Disney spent the better part of a dozen years in
Kansas City, living there most of the time from 1911 to
1923... The point of visiting places like the Disney sites
in Kansas City is to step back in time and connect with the
lives of people long dead. Although Kansas City as a whole
is prosperous and attractive, Walt Disney's old neighborhood
is so badly blighted - and so radically different from what
he knew - that making that imaginative leap back to 1922 is,
I'm afraid, very difficult." (Source: michaelbarrier.com.

DISNEYLAND HONG KONG

WALT DISNEY WORLD

The 12th Annual Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival
opened Friday April 15th.

"For the next seven weeks, Epcot will bloom with bouquets of
custom displays themed to the 'Happiest Celebration on
Earth,' Disney's global jubilee celebrating 50 years of
magic at Disney parks and resorts.

Intricately detailed topiaries, multi-colored beds of
flowers, a lush rose garden, meticulously crafted bonsai
trees and other wonders of the plant world will complement
thousands of other varieties of flowers and trees at the
Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.

The show will add living color to the largest celebration in
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts history." (Source: Walt Disney

"Hungry Walt Disney World guests at the new Soarin'
attraction have a brand-new venue for dining in The Land
pavilion at Epcot. Sunshine Seasons, in the giant atrium of
the pavilion, has a new look and a new 'fast casual' menu.
Four shops offer a diverse selection of fresh eats... "There
is no fried food or pizza, no burgers -- everything is
prepared as you watch. It's designed to excite the senses."

HONG KONG DISNEYLAND

"Five hundred Hong Kong visitors have debarked in Orlando to
learn about a foreign culture with a vocabulary and manners
much different from the one they know. The culture isn't
American. It's Disney...

Among the Hong Kong workers' tasks is learning the language
of Disney. Workers are called 'cast members,' and visitors
are referred to as "guests.' Special encounters at the theme
parks are 'magical moments.' Disney workers don't go to
work, they 'put on a show.' When workers are out in the
park, they're 'on stage.' (Source: Orlando Sentinel,
04/16/05) For the rest of the story, click here.

"Hong Kong's government has advised Disneyland not to sell
tickets at the turnstiles at its new park because of worries
about crowd-control problems, and a Disney official said
Friday it would consider the issue." (Source: Asia News Yahoo.com,

Free airport parking? Beth, our travel agent, writes:

"If you're a Florida resident that flies from time to time
then you learn very quickly that Orlando often has fares
significantly lower than other airports in the state. While
driving several hours to the Orlando airport to save $50 may
not make any sense, if you're going to save hundreds then
it's worth a thought. I did it myself once, and checked into
a Days Inn near the airport that allowed me to leave my car
there while I was gone. They provided free transportation to
the airport and back, too. It was a yucky hotel with nothing
to do close by, but I saved a lot on the air.

Now, though, I and the rest of my fellow Floridians have
another option! Disney confirms that you ARE permitted to
leave your car parked at Disney for free and use their new
complimentary airport shuttle service provided you spend at
least one night before and one night after your trip at a
Disney hotel, and it has to be the SAME hotel on both ends.
You just add one-way Magical Express information to each
reservation, and let the front desk know that you'll be
leaving your car in the lot until you get back.

(Note that only Disney resort guests with reservations can
use the Magical Express, so you can't stay offsite and then
just park at Disney and use their airport transfers.)"

"I know (or think I know, haha!) that a 'soft opening' means
an unannounced type - but is that only for passholders? One
of my daughters and I..., are heading to MK this weekend (we
are driving up to Orlando to pick up a prom dress, if you
can believe that!) and want to try to catch It's A Small
World; I've heard they are having soft openings for that and
Soaring and a few other things.....Any inside scoops you can
throw my way?? I did read... that Soaring was not open right
now due to some snafu, but hope it will be Saturday
afternoon....Let me know anything you think would help us
Saturday?? Thanks!

PS - Had the opp to chat with your/'our' (LOL) travel guru,
Beth, down here in Naples last month; what an awesome find
she is!!! Yours in Ears!"

From time to time Disney offers a soft opening for AP
holders only, but generally everyone is allowed to sample
the ride on a soft opening day.

Yes, Disney closed Soarin' temporarily due to technical
glitches. Hopefully, it was back up when you got there.
People seem to like the changes to Small World.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE "WORLD"

"The Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World
Speedway offers guests the ultimate racing souvenir that
doubles as gear-spinning home décor -- used tires.

After experiencing the ride of a lifetime in an authentic
stock car at the one-mile Walt Disney World Speedway, guests
can purchase the same Goodyear Racing Eagles that are used
on the 630-horsepower machines.

The tires are used for approximately 100 laps around the
speedway before they are changed. Once the tires are removed
from the cars, they are stacked in the showroom store where
guests can purchase them for $5 or less. Tires must be
purchased at the speedway; no shipping is available... a
new, full set of Goodyear Racing Eagles with rims costs race
teams between $500 and $1,200...

Spectators are also welcome to visit Walt Disney World
Speedway at no additional charge to talk with Richard Petty
Driving Experience team members and to view others taking
part in the programs. Spectators may also purchase tires.

For more information, guests can contact the Richard Petty
Driving Experience at 800/BE-PETTY or visit

"I purchased a copy of your book early last year when I was
researching a Disney vacation for my son and I. We ended up
going on a Disney cruise and using [your travel agent] Beth
to help us book it. She is absolutely wonderful!!!

My son and I had the greatest time on the cruise (7 night
eastern caribbean) and to top it all off I met a divorced
dad who is now going to be my husband!!! We just got engaged
... at where else - Disney! He took me to dinner at
Narcoossee's and proposed on the Beach at the Grand
Floridian (his favorite resort)...

Thank you very much for your help, and all that you do to
make Disney an easier destination on a budget."

Congratulations again, Ronda! Have a wonderful life
together!

Beth, our travel agent, writes about transportation from the
airport:

"On arrival in Orlando, most families will either rent a
car, take an airport shuttle or taxi, or use a private car
and driver to get to their hotel. If you have children, you
should be aware of the following...

All children 5 years of age or younger must be properly
restrained no matter where they are sitting in the vehicle.
Children through age 3 must be secured in a separate carrier
or a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child safety seat.
For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an
integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt may be used.
(FL Statute 316.613).

You can rent car seats from car rental agencies, but you
should reserve them in advance during the reservation
process. There will be a charge, and it can be hefty. You
might want to bring your own seat(s) from home. If the seats
are FAA-approved, so much the better since you can use them
on the plane for small children. Otherwise, you can check
them as baggage.

Airport shuttles and taxis generally do NOT have car seats.
I do not believe that they are exempt from the law, but they
seem to ignore it and get away with it. Still, it's not safe
for your children. The law exists for a good reason!

Private car companies - nearly always the most economic
choice if there are three or more people traveling - DO have
car seats and boosters. Some companies charge you while
others will include them (or at least one) for free. The
cost is usually $5 if there's a charge. Bonus: Most car
companies will also give you a free grocery stop (length
ranges from 15-30 minutes) and some will also give you a
photo stop at the entry gate, rent microwaves and
refrigerators, rent strollers and walkie talkies, and even
make side-trip arrangements for you. They are also a lower-
cost alternative for getting to Sea World, Universal, etc.
for the day. And yes, they also service Port Canaveral,
Sanford Airport, etc.

To set up a private car (maximum of 4 people), van (maximum
of 10 people), limo (max varies), excursion SUV, stretch
Hummer, etc. I need:

* Name of lead person with phone number and address
* Number of adults and children (note child ages)
* Dates of travel
* Hotel name (and address if not a Disney or Universal
hotel)
* Arriving airline and time, flight number, departure city
for leg coming into Orlando
* Departing flight time
* Additional needs (car seat, etc.)

I can get you a quote prior to making the reservation. Note
that some companies do NOT require any payment in advance.
You pay the driver on arrival."
