Canaveral, Disney Cruise Line Reach Agreement

New and larger vessels to homeport at Canaveral

PORT CANAVERAL, FL- March 19, 2008 - Disney Cruise Line will extend its partnership at Port Canaveral for another 15 years, operating its two new 4,000-passenger vessels from its exclusive-use terminal in Canaveral.

After yearlong negotiations, the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners today voted unanimously to approve the agreement, which includes pier and terminal improvements needed for the arrival of the first new Disney ship in 2011. The second ship is scheduled for launch in 2012.

"Port Canaveral set the standard for the world's cruise terminals," says Port Canaveral CEO Stan Payne. "The terminal, which was built exclusively for Disney, will be enlarged and enhanced for efficient handling of the additional passengers and baggage. We are pleased to continue this partnership that has been successful since the arrival of Disney 10 years ago."

In addition, a parking garage will be built to accommodate the 40-percent capacity increase with the two new ships.

"This agreement reflects Disney's commitment to Central Florida and success at Port Canaveral," said Tom McAlpin, President of Disney Cruise Line. "We are proud to call Port Canaveral our homeport."

Disney currently homeports the Disney Magic, offering a seven-day itinerary to the Caribbean, and the Disney Wonder, offering 3- and 4-day voyages to the Bahamas.

"The continued partnership with Disney Cruise Line is a win-win for the Port Authority and the Brevard and Central Florida community," says Joe Matheny, Chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners. "This benefits our economy with more local jobs, more customers for area businesses, and expanded cruise options from Port Canaveral." (Source: Press release, 03/20/08)

Canaveral to Homeport Freedom-class Ship

Royal Caribbean International's vessels largest afloat

PORT CANAVERAL, FL - March 19, 2008 - An agreement between the Canaveral Port Authority and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is expected to be finalized in the next few months to homeport Freedom of the Seas at Port Canaveral. Royal Caribbean today submitted a letter of intent to deploy the 160,000 gross-registered ton vessel to Canaveral in May 2009.

"The Freedom of the Seas will be the largest cruise vessel homeported here," says Port Canaveral CEO Stan Payne. "And the agreement represents the longest commitment of Royal Caribbean to Port Canaveral."

"Bringing a Freedom-class ship to Port Canaveral will give vacationers another homeport choice to experience the most innovative cruise ship at sea," said Adam Goldstein, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. "Based on the popularity of Mariner of the Seas at Port Canaveral, we look forward to and anticipate similar success for Freedom of the Seas."

The 3,634 guest capacity, double-occupancy, Freedom-class ships revolutionized the cruise industry when Freedom of the Seas first was launched in 2006. With Liberty of the Seas, launched in 2007, and the soon-to-be launched Independence of the Seas, Royal Caribbean's Freedom-class ships feature exclusive onboard amenities, such as the FlowRider surf simulator, the H2O Zone water park, a boxing ring for Power-Box conditioning classes, an ice-skating rink, 10-route rock-climbing wall, a full-size basketball court, and the Royal Promenade, a boulevard of restaurants, bars, lounge and shops that runs nearly the length of the ship.

"We are delighted that Royal Caribbean continues to offer those traveling from Port Canaveral with the best the cruise line has to offer," says Joe Matheny, Chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners. (Source: Press Release)

Great ‘Foodie’ Cities of the World Shine Sept. 26-Nov. 9 at 13th Annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Fine cuisine and wines from some of the best "foodie" cities in the world will take a bow at the 13th annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Sept. 26 through Nov. 9 at Walt Disney World Resort.

Epcot guests can explore these "Cities in Wonderland" -- from trendy Cork, Ireland, to the melting pot of Cape Town, South Africa -- around the World Showcase promenade while also discovering blissful bites at international and regional marketplaces brimming with exotic flavors and comfort foods. The six-week festival will showcase tastes from countries on six continents.

More than 25 international marketplaces will serve tapas-sized portions of regional specialties at $2-to-$5 each, and recommended wines and beers make perfect pairings at each kiosk. New festival flavors explore the culinary wonders of Lyon, France; Marrakesh, Morocco; Shanghai, China; Bologna, Italy; Tokyo and Mexico City. Exhibits along the promenade also will showcase entertainment and traditional crafts of several countries.

Daily complimentary wine and beer tastings serve up sips from around the world, and culinary demonstrations dish up featured taste treats. A series of special culinary programs features a lineup of renowned winemakers, guest chefs and speakers participating in elegant dinners, luncheons, seminars and wine schools.

"We wanted to take our guests on a grand gustatory expedition," says Nora Carey, festival manager. "The cities that we'll feature are known for great dining experiences, and the 'Cities in Wonderland' theme will inspire our guests to enjoy great food and wine in a fresh new way."

The Epcot festival continues to grow dramatically, attracting a diverse audience of more than one million guests each fall -- from wine connoisseurs and epicures to neophytes wishing to boost their wine IQs. Beer aficionados can raise their steins at several tasting locations, including Germany's Biergarten, which specialize in brews from light to dark.

Musical entertainment pairs perfectly with culinary fun during the nightly Eat to the Beat! concert series featuring a varied lineup of classic rock, soul, R&B, oldies, jazz and funk hit-makers. Concerts are performed three times each evening at America Gardens Theatre along the World Showcase lagoon. New acts to appear include Kool & The Gang, Spyro Gyra, En Vogue and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. David Sanborn, Jon Secada and Otis Day and the Knights are among returning crowd-pleasing acts.

Other festival highlights include:

# The Festival Welcome Center, with a Champagne and Wine Bar, complimentary wine seminars and book signings, and festival keepsakes including exclusive festival pins and an official festival cookbook.

# Some 250 Disney chefs and guest chefs conducting culinary demonstrations and hosting elegant dinners and tasting events. Guest chefs are now being signed for the event; last year's lineup included Cat Cora, Alan Wong, Jeff Henderson, Roy Yamaguchi, Todd English, G. Garvin, Suvir Saran, Warren
Brown and many others.

# The weekly Party for the Senses grand tasting event featuring tempting tastes from eminent chefs, more than 70 wines and beers and live entertainment.

Festival guests also can enjoy new Epcot experiences including the re-launched Spaceship Earth attraction in Future World, with narration by Oscar winner Dame Judi Dench, new scenes, sets and costumes, updated Audio-Animatronics figures, plus a touch-screen interactive ride sequence. In the World Showcase, there's a new restaurant at the Italy pavilion, Tutto Italia, with cuisine from different regions of Italy. And the Japan pavilion just introduced its new Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo restaurants. Mexico's new tequila bar is perfect for cool sips on a warm autumn evening.

Included with Epcot Admission:

Wine and beer seminars, cooking demonstrations, special book signings at the Festival Center, Eat to the Beat! concerts, culinary and cultural exhibits, and all attractions and park entertainment are included with regular Epcot admission.

Special Programming by Reservation:

The weekly Party for the Senses grand tasting, Food and Wine Pairings at select Epcot restaurants, Regional Feasts, Epcot Wine Schools, Cheese Tastings, Sweet Sundays, and other special wine and culinary programs require reservations and separate admission.

Guests can call 407/WDW-FEST (939-3378) for information and to make reservations for special events and programs. Festival details are available at the Web site: disneyworld.com/food. (Press Release, 03/21/08)

Toy Story Characters Challenge Guests To Ride And Play Toy Story Mania!

Disney Parks guests will don 3-D glasses and enter a wild and wooly 4-D world of Woody the Cowboy and Buzz Lightyear when Toy Story Mania! premieres this summer. The attraction will debut on both coasts: at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, and along the Paradise Pier midway in Disney’s California Adventure at Disneyland Resort in California.

Celebrating the Disney/Pixar classics "Toy Story" and "Toy Story II," Toy Story Mania! raises the bar for interactive ride-game attractions. It’s a high energy, immersive adventure that makes guests a key part of the action as their game play triggers special effects that provide a fourth dimension of fun. "Toy Story Mania!" engages guests in a whole new way with the delightful characters of the films.

Upon entering the attraction, guests will be welcomed by Mr. Potato Head, more than five feet tall and looking like he stepped right down from the movie screen. The state-of-the-art Audio-Animatronics Mr. Potato Head makes a perfect carnival barker for the immersive Toy Story Mania! experience, since he is the first attraction-based Audio-Animatronics figure who can engage guests in a two-way conversation.

Everyone gets a front row seat when guests put on their 3-D glasses, "shrink" to the size of a toy, and board the Toy Story Mania! carnival tram ride vehicles, whose fast travel and spinning add a huge amount of fun to the interactive experience. The exciting and colorful route takes guests through "Andy’s Bedroom" filled with oversized murals and toys. The vehicles spin to face Toy Story Mania! game booths - high-tech yet rooted in classic midway games of skill - and guests aim for 3-D animated targets using their own on-board "spring-action shooters." Players pair up and sit side-by-side for a friendly competition that delivers an ever-changing variety of targets and surprises.

As they play, guests can actually see the "virtual" objects they’ve launched leave their "spring-action shooters" and hit the targets (or not). And thanks to 4-D special effects technology, they may sense objects whirring past them as they pop out of the 3-D scenes.

The Toy Story Mania! games - five of them, plus an introductory practice round - are designed to be enjoyed by audiences of all ages and skills, from beginners to serious gamers. Play is energized by the spirit of the "Toy Story" characters cast in games that best suit their very animated personalities.

First comes the "Pie Throw Practice" round in which guests can try splattering targets with "virtual" pies.

Next Hamm the pig hosts a "Hamm & Eggs" booth in which players launch "plastic virtual eggs" at various barnyard targets.

"Bo Peep’s Baaa-loon Pop" presents a landscape full of balloon sheep, trees and other objects at which guests can launch virtual darts. But players had better be careful! A popped virtual water balloon might add an additional 4-D wet dimension to the game.

From there it’s on to "Green Army Men Shoot Camp" where the challenge is to break plates with baseballs.
Next up is "Buzz Lightyear’s Flying Tossers," a ring-toss game hosted by everyone’s favorite space ranger, with Little Green Aliens as the targets.

For the grand finale game, Toy Story Mania! players will ride through Wild West scenes launching virtual suction-cup darts at targets in "Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Shootin’ Gallery." A final "Woody’s Bonus Roundup" encourages guests to fire their "spring-action shooters" as rapidly as possible at one last super-target for extra points. When scores are tallied, players’ skill levels are identified with the reward of an onscreen "virtual plush."

The game play of Toy Story Mania! is accompanied by ingenious musical variations of Randy Newman’s "You’ve Got A Friend in Me," arranged by veteran music editor Bruno Coon, a frequent Newman collaborator, to compliment the games - for example, a military brass band version for "Green Army Man Shoot Camp." No matter how many times guests return to ride and play, they can be sure every ride-through will be different. (Source: Press Release, 03/20/08)

New Fun And Adventures Arrive At Disneyland Resort For Spring And Summer Of The Year Of A Million Dreams

Innovative new attractions and colorful, new live entertainment are coming to the Disneyland Resort this spring and summer to entertain guests during The Year of a Million Dreams.

Friends from the lively and fun worlds of Disney/Pixar movies and Playhouse Disney television shows will bring two new entertainment acts to Disney’s California Adventure park beginning March 14, when both "Pixar Play Parade" and "Playhouse Disney Live on Stage!" premiere. Opening this summer are the new "Toy Story Mania!" attraction, a fun-filled adventure at Disney’s California Adventure, and the "Innoventions Dream Home" at Disneyland.

Visitors will get to play along with Disney/Pixar characters in "Toy Story Mania!" - an amazing new attraction that features the next level of interactive technology. "Toy Story Mania!" is scheduled to open in June on the Paradise Pier midway, featuring a larger-than-life Audio-Animatronics Mr. Potato Head who will deliver a zany performance with the voice of famous comedian Don Rickles. Guests will don 3-D glasses and hop into fancifully decorated "Toy Story Mania!" vehicles. While riding along a colorful, midway-themed route, they will take aim at animated targets using their own spring-action shooters, scoring points in a series of energetic, fun gaming sequences featuring Woody, Bo Peep and the rest of the gang from Toy Story.

Also in Disney’s California Adventure, characters from Disney/Pixar motion pictures such as Toy Story, a bug’s life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars and Ratatouille will dance onto the parade route and invite guests of all ages to join in the "Pixar Play Parade," a whirling, spinning, fun-for-all animated playground, brought to life in giant parade floats, puppetry, acrobatics and interactive surprises including bubble and water effects.

Over in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area of Disney’s California Adventure, a cast of friends from the Disney Channel’s hit "Playhouse Disney" programs will appear in an all-new "Playhouse Disney Live on Stage!" show. As Mickey Mouse and his pals from "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" plan a birthday celebration for Minnie Mouse, they will encounter helpful characters from "Little Einsteins," "Handy Manny’ and more.

"Playhouse Disney Live on Stage!" is an exciting combination of live performers, amazing puppetry, projections, moving scenery and special effects in which children and their parents will clap, dance and sing along.

Also opening this summer will be the "Innoventions Dream Home" in Tomorrowland in Disneyland, an attraction that will remind fans of Walt Disney’s fondness for futuristic ideas. The latest in cutting-edge and inspiring home ideas will be showcased in the Innoventions Dream Home, a 5,000-plus square foot residence featuring integrated digital technology in an immersive "high-tech, high-touch" guest experience. Design and development of the "Innoventions Dream Home" sprang from an alliance between Disneyland Resort, Microsoft, HP, Life/ware and home builder Taylor Morrison. (Source: Press Release, 03/20/08)

Beth, our travel agent, writes about buying theme park tickets:

"I am frequently asked about purchasing theme park (and other) tickets at a discount. My advice is always the same: don't purchase until you're absolutely certain that a package deal isn't your better option.

Disney typically releases discounts about 8-10 weeks before the applicable period starts. In other words, if you want a January discount the applicable promotion will probably be announced in late October or early November. There are exceptions, of course, but if you're booking your January vacation in July then you probably haven't seen the best deal yet. That doesn't mean you should wait to book, but it does mean that the price is likely to drop so you'll need to watch carefully for the discounts and try to get your price changed if and when they are announced. (We save you the hassle and track reservations automatically, trying to get you those deals on the first day they are released, but we can only track reservations we make in the first place.)

These days, Disney shows a definite preference for discounting packages as opposed to room-only reservations, and ALL packages come with tickets. Also, given that you can normally only get the ever-popular dining plans with a package, even people that already have tickets will often shell out the extra cash ($64-$75 per person!) for 1-day base tickets in order to book a package with dining and/or the room discount. Annual pass discounts aren't what they used to be, so for the vast majority of people a package with room and tickets (and optional dining) is going to be the best way to go so you don't want to saddle yourself with nonrefundable park tickets until you know what the bottom line deal on a package is going to be.

Recently, though, we've seen a wave of people trying to book their vacations just weeks before they want to go. This is a bad idea for many reasons, as these folks are finding out, but sometimes it's unavoidable. If you find that the promotions have expired for your dates (or all the promotional space is gone) you could be facing the prospect of paying full rack rate on your resort room. If you can live without a dining plan it makes sense to look at non-Disney properties as well as the idea of purchasing the room and tickets separately.

Which brings us back to those discounted tickets... You cannot tell by looking at most theme park tickets how many days are left on them. Also, park tickets are not transferable; many Disney tickets even have names on them. If your finger scan doesn't match what's on the ticket you'll be asked to produce ID that matches the name on the ticket. (So no, you can't use the leftover days on your friend's ticket.) It is, therefore, critical that you purchase tickets from a reliable source. Affordable Disney's ticket agent has been around for a long time and they are great to work with. Their pricing is wonderful and I highly recommend them. (Affordable Disney members can log in and see the Walt Disney World Addendum for another tip for buying tickets at a discount from Beth.)

And when comparing prices, don't forget to compare apples to apples by ensuring tax and shipping are included in all the prices you're looking at. (That's the #1 mistake that people make when shopping around!)"

Guests attending Night of Joy, which takes place from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. (after regular theme park hours), can combine an evening of rockin' Christian music with the thrills and chills of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and The Twilight ZoneTM Tower of Terror plus the shoot-'em-up fun of Toy Story Mania! slated for a summer premier.

Concerts will take place at several stage locations, with eight national recording acts performing each evening. Here's how they'll line up:

Sept. 5 -- Tomlin, MercyMe, St. James, BarlowGirl, Matthew West, Rush of Fools, Brandon Heath and Britt Nichole.

Half of this year's acts have won Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, one of Christian music's highest honors. More than one million guests have experienced Night of Joy from 1983 through 2007, a 25-year period during which the event was held in the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom.

Money-saving ticket options are currently available. One-night tickets purchased in advance are $44.95 (a $5 per ticket savings compared to tickets purchased on event days -- if available). If you love the thrill of karaoke, the warmth of the spotlight or just want to show off, you have what it takes to be a "rising star." Tapping into one of the nation’s hottest trends, Universal Orlando Resort elevates karaoke to a whole new level with the addition of CityWalk’s Rising Star. The new venue features karaoke with a twist, where performing guests will be introduced to screaming audiences by an emcee and take center stage as they sing with a full live band and back-up singers.

This fresh, new take on a favorite social pastime gives even the most amateur karaoke fans a taste of musical fame as they belt out their favorite songs either solo or with a group of friends. Daring New Dimension in Spine-Tingling Thrills Worldwide Phenomenon The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM Debuts at Disneyland Resort Paris

LONDON, UK -- On April 5th 2008, guests will plunge faster than the speed of gravity into the greatest Disneyland® Resort Paris thriller of all, The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM, the highlight of the glamorous Hollywood Boulevard district at Walt Disney Studios® Park.

"We're very excited to bring this unrivaled world-class attraction to our guests as part of our Celebration Continues -- big time!" said Karl L. Holz, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Euro Disney S.A.S. "The incredible experience sets a new standard for thrill seekers at Disneyland Resort Paris."

Already a hit at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Disneyland in California and Tokyo Disneyland, The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM is one of Disney's most popular attractions worldwide, a spine-tingling mystery drama that climaxes with a 13-storey drop. The effect is mind boggling.

The supernatural adventure is based on a "lost episode" of The Twilight Zone®, the spooky U.S. television series that ran from 1959 to 1964. And now Disneyland Resort Paris guests will become active participants in the timeless drama.

"Tower of Terror affects every one of the senses, leaving you feeling as if you have really been in your own episode of The Twilight Zone," says Theron Skees, show producer for Walt Disney Imagineering. "A team of Walt Disney Imagineers worked very hard to break the barrier and truly immerse guests in the experience. Adding sound technology, and visual effects is only part of the way we achieved this. We wanted the guest to feel completely out of control -- not knowing what to expect next, and giving the die-hard fans a lot more to talk about."

Looming 13 storeys (the tallest attraction at Disneyland Resort Paris) over Walt Disney Studios Park, the attraction* tempts guests to leave reality behind and enter the Hollywood Tower Hotel. Even before they enter the abandoned hotel lobby, evidence of impending danger can be seen high on the side of the ominous building. A sparkling electrical sign that reads "Hollywood Tower Hotel" hangs precariously above a gaping hole in the tower walls.

Guests enter through the once-grand lobby and are ushered into a musty library by one of the hotel's curious bellboys. In the library guests are invited to board one of the hotel's service elevators, where they find themselves on a terrifying journey to...The Twilight Zone.

The ride's fright-filled ascent begins when visitors board a decrepit hotel freight elevator that passes through mysterious hotel passageways where ghostly images of lost guests seem to appear and disappear at will. As the journey progresses, the elevator-cage hurtles faster than the speed of gravity through the "fifth dimension" in a pitch-black shaft as guests embark on a not-to-be-forgotten journey.

The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorTM features Disney's FASTPASS -- offered at no charge to park guests -- designed to reduce waiting times at popular attractions in both Disneyland Resort Paris theme parks.

As part of the five all-new attractions and entertainment offerings for 2008, this highly immersive musical-style show is an exciting cross between the movies and creativity. Featuring everyone's favorite tunes from both High School Musical 1 and 2, these 'East High kids' will be decked out in fabulous high school clothing, or as Wildcat basketball players, baseball players and cheerleaders. These fabulous dancers are sure to bring guests into the Wildcat excitement!

"We are thrilled to present the sensational and super hip High School Musical: LIVE! to young Guests from Hong Kong and the rest of Asia!" said Laurie Jordan, Vice President, Entertainment, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Performed three times a day, High School Musical: LIVE! features a richly decorated traveling stage with the iconic High School Musical marquee logo, as well as a bevy of hip East High performers. Throughout the show, an emcee and two lead singers will rally the crowd, encouraging Guests to join the fun and even shoot some hoops, as the entourage stops in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The show is also filled with meaningful messages - universal lessons about courage, team spirit, respect and following one's dream.

High School Musical: LIVE! is part of Disney's commitment to providing totally immersive and interactive entertainment offerings and attractions. Hong Kong Disneyland recently launched the Muppet Mobile Lab which is one of its newest interactive entertainment offerings. Featuring the quirky Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his sidekick, Beaker, this spontaneous pair will create an unending amount of entertainment for Guests. Pixar Play Parade Will Bring Bubbling Interactive Fun To Disney’s California Adventure Beginning March 14, 2008

All the exciting and colorful worlds of the Disney/Pixar pals - from "Toy Story," "a bug’s life," "Monsters, Inc.," "Finding Nemo," "The Incredibles," "Cars" and "Ratatouille" - will come to life in the all-new "Pixar Play Parade," debuting March 14, 2008, in Disney’s California Adventure as part of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disneyland Resort.

Characters from every Disney/Pixar motion picture will appear in the magical immersive parade, which will invite guests of all ages to take part in the playfulness of a whirling, spinning, fun-for-all animated playground. The parade features acrobatics, bungees, high-energy choreography, interactive surprises and lively bubble and water effects.

"Pixar Play Parade" features a dozen parade floats up to two stories tall, themed to Disney/Pixar movies and equipped with fun and surprising movement and effects. The cast and crew number more than 100, and behind the scenes is a creative team of top entertainment professionals including Emmy-nominated director Fred Tallaksen (a choreographer for Madonna and numerous television and stage productions), puppet designer Michael Curry (of "The Lion King" on Broadway), costume designer Mirena Rada ("Avenue Q") and composers Matthew Girard and Robbie Nevil ("High School Musical").

Girard and Nevil composed brand new tunes for Pixar Play Parade, including the "Countdown To Fun!" theme, which brings the show to life as it travels through Disney’s California Adventure.

Encouraging everyone to dance, play and clap along, Mike, Sulley and their monster buddies from "Monsters, Inc." will lead the procession. Even sourpuss Roz will put in an appearance - and what an appearance! She’ll be the drum major, slithering her way down the parade route.

Next up is a flowerbed of hopping, swinging bugs: the colony from "a bug’s life." Then "The Incredibles" will zoom into view, superhero style, aboard amazing hovercrafts. But watch out! The sinister Omnidroid is on the loose and baby Jack-Jack could burst into flames at any moment!

From there it’s into the bubbling world of Dory, Marlin, Crush, Bloat and the colorful underwater friends from "Finding Nemo," who invite everyone to "play in schools" (schools of fish, that is). "Ratatouille’s" Remy and Emile are serving up fun, too, turning their kitchen into a super soapy pool of creativity with kids and families as the main ingredients.

Woody and the "Toy Story" gang arrive next to encourage guests to kick up their heels, while Buzz Lightyear and the Little Green Aliens celebrate just how "universal" play can be, in any galaxy. Finally, after the parade has been revving up guests throughout the route, lovable Mater and his flashy buddy Lightning McQueen from "Cars" will bring up the rear. (Source: Press Release, 03/10/08)

An All-New 'Playhouse Disney Live On Stage!' Show Will Entertain Young Fans At Disney's California Adventure

A whole new cast of friends from "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," "Little Einsteins," "Handy Manny" and more welcome children and their parents to the all-new "Playhouse Disney Live on Stage!" debuting March 14 at Disney’s California Adventure. An exciting combination of live performers, amazing puppetry, projections, moving scenery and marvelous special effects create a show where guests will clap, dance and sing along with some of the most popular characters in children’s television.

In addition to the bubbly, breezy effects, music fills the air as youngsters join the gang in singing along with the catchy tunes that make "Playhouse Disney" such a fun place on morning television. During the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at the Disneyland Resort, young guests at "Playhouse Disney Live on Stage!" will be immersed in the interactive magic as their "Playhouse Disney" pals create the best birthday party ever for Minnie Mouse.

The 23-minute stage show begins as Casey, the enthusiastic host of "Playhouse Disney," and Mickey Mouse bring the guests to visit the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, where everyone helps prepare for Minnie Mouse’s birthday celebration. The gang shares tales of friendship and teamwork as they encounter their favorite characters from the popular television shows that are big hits with preschool audiences.

The stars of the entertaining new show at Disney’s California Adventure are characters from Disney Channel’s hit Playhouse Disney programming block:

* "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" - The ever popular Disney characters - Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and the ever-silly Goofy - pop out in new life-like animated puppetry for young audiences at the show.

* "Little Einsteins" - Leo, Annie, Quincy and June use music - and the audience - to help their pal, Rocket, battle his friendly rival, Big Jet, in a high-speed rocket race to the finish line.

* "Handy Manny" - From his first Hola, Handy Manny and his handyman tools are front and center for yet another busy day of helping his friends. When the bubble-making machine conks out on stage, Handy Manny and his animated tools save the day.

"Playhouse Disney Live on Stage!" first premiered at Disney’s California Adventure in April 2003 and has been wildly successful ever since. New characters have been added over the years, but the show was completely revamped for this production. Hundreds of guests per show will be entertained by an all-new storyline presented with a skillful combination of live performers and puppetry. Performances will be presented several times daily in the park's Hollywood Pictures Backlot. (Source: Press Release, 03/10/08)

Kim writes:

"John,

My husband and I just returned a few days ago from our 6th trip to Disney. This time, however, was the first time without children. Because we were there without children, we decided to take advantage of one of the tours. We did The Keys to the Kingdom tour. It was absolutely amazing.

Anyway, I thought I might give a response about 'how to get picked' by a cast member. For simple things, a cast member asking for volunteers, wearing matching shirts and being enthusiastic really helps.

As far as being picked for one of the 'dreams' (Cinderella Suite), that's really just luck, at least how it was explained to us. They use a program called a randomizer to determine winners. The dream patrol will get very specific directions to follow, for example, go to Downtown Disney and pick the person sitting on the right side of the bench in front of Once upon a Toy or go to the Nemo show in Animal Kingdom and pick the person in the 8th row, third from the left. Thought that was pretty interesting.

Anyway, thanks for the great info. We are already planning our next trip later this month (with the kids)."

Thanks, Kim. Looks like those who are chosen to stay overnight at the Castle are REALLY lucky to be at the right place at the right time!

Want More Magic in a National Election?

Use your right to vote and help choose the first-ever Disney Parks Chief Magic Official

Today, the Top 10 semi-finalists for Disney Parks’ Chief Magic Official (CMO) joined the online campaign trail to ask America to cast votes for the first-ever CMO who will oversee magic throughout Disney Parks. The semi-finalists were chosen from more than 1,300 applicants who applied to be the Disney CMO in a national search contest sponsored by CareerBuilder.com.

During the Year of a Million Dreams, the CMO will travel to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts and help create magical experiences for guests, participate in special events and wizard behind-the-scenes with the Walt Disney Imagineers.

Unlike the U.S. presidential candidates who specialize in foreign policies and healthcare, the 10 Disney Parks’ CMO wannabes are campaigning their abilities to pillage and plunder with pirates, befriend dwarfs - up to seven at a time - and show just how royal they can be.

It is up to the semi-finalists to drive their own campaigns. Political symbols such as donkeys and elephants have been traded in for lions, pixies and everyone’s favorite mouse. Each candidate will choose from one of five iconic Disney characters to represent his or her campaign Web site: Mickey, Goofy, Cinderella, Tinker Bell or Simba.

"We were overwhelmed by the number of online entries," said Craig Dezern, Vice President, Global Public Relations, Disney Parks. "The creativity and love of Disney displayed in nearly every entry was inspiring. Now we’re eager to see how well our CMO candidates perform in winning the votes needed to be a finalist."

Voting nationwide is open now through March 22 (11:59 p.m. ET). Over the next three weeks, consumers are encouraged to visit www.DreamCMO.com and vote for who they believe is most magically fit to be the Disney Parks CMO.

Each CMO candidate completed a Magic Aptitude Test (M.A.T.) online and was encouraged to submit a virtual entry which captured his or her personality and visually and verbally supported why he or she would make the ideal CMO.

"Who wouldn’t want to put ‘made magic’ on his/her resume," said Richard Castellini, Vice President of Consumer Marketing of CareerBuilder.com. "This is a one-of-a-kind position for a one-of-a-kind company. We are pleased to be working with Disney Parks to provide the American workforce with an opportunity you, quite honestly, couldn’t get anywhere else."

The Top 10 Chief Magic Official candidates are:

* Amy Kate Connolly; Pacific Palisades, Calif.
* Karrie Dunkin; Englewood, Colo.
* David Hawley;Roseville, Calif.
* Patrick Hurd; Oklahoma City, Okla.
* Justin Vance Muchoney; Seven Fields, Pa.
* Jennifer Sechler; Westerville, Ohio
* Tangela Yvonne Walker-Craft; Lakeland, Fla.
* Meggin Weaver; Kissimmee, Fla.
* Ronald "Tripp" West; Powder Springs, Ga.
* David Wotruba; Bremerton, Wash.

Ballots Reopen for the Top Three

After America’s votes are in, the top three vote-getters will be announced mid-April, along with details surrounding their two-day in Park competitions at Walt Disney World Resort. Semi-finalists will face tests of creativity, enthusiasm, knowledge of the Parks and actual magic aptitude. The competition will be recorded and videos highlighting each of the three finalists will be posted on www.DreamCMO.com for a final round of voting. The top vote-getter during April 14-21 will be named the Disney Parks Chief Magic Official.

Worlds Of Discovery Planned For Nakheel’s The Palm Jebel Ali In Dubai

Busch Entertainment Corporation and Nakheel sign Memorandum of Understanding to develop four theme parks in the United Arab Emirates

Orlando, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2008) - Busch Entertainment Corporation (BEC), the family entertainment division of Anheuser-Busch Cos., today announced an agreement with Nakheel PJSC, one of the world’s largest property developers, to create the Worlds of Discovery - SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove - on The Palm Jebel Ali in Dubai.

BEC and Nakheel, a key company in Dubai’s transformation into one of the fastest growing cities in the world, reached agreement earlier this month on the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding that calls for the phased construction of four theme parks on the second of the company’s three Palm man-made island developments.

Nakheel will invest the necessary capital to build and operate the parks. BEC will license its brands to Nakheel and operate the parks under a management contract.

Worlds of Discovery will occupy a section of The Palm Jebel Ali known as "the Crown," which will resemble a giant killer whale when reclamation work is complete. Nakheel’s plans for The Palm Jebel Ali, currently the world’s largest man-made island, also call for the development of commercial, residential and shopping districts, as well as resort hotels and restaurants.

BEC President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Atchison announced the deal today with Nakheel’s Chief Executive Chris O’Donnell in a ceremony at SeaWorld Orlando’s Shamu Stadium. Also present were BEC Chief Marketing Officer Joe Couceiro and Marwan Al Qamzi, Managing Director of The Palm Jebel Ali.

"Dubai has become one of the world’s leading tourist destinations, and a key part of the strategy has been attracting world-class entertainment brands to the emirate. We have already concluded partnerships with major brands such as Trump, Cirque du Soleil, and Atlantis, and the partnership with BEC is a further example of Dubai’s growth as a city of global prominence," O’Donnell said. "We are extremely honored that The Palm Jebel Ali will become home to the first Worlds of Discovery theme parks outside of the U.S., which is not only a major coup for Nakheel, but for the whole of Dubai."

"We are delighted to sign this unique partnership with BEC. SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove are incredible entertainment experiences that have thrilled millions of families since opening," Al Qamzi said. "Worlds of Discovery will become the attraction of The Palm Jebel Ali and I am already excited about the prospect of opening the doors to our very first visitors."

The Worlds of Discovery project will be phased and includes SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove and, the company’s newest theme park brand, Aquatica. Worlds of Discovery on The Palm Jebel Ali will also include a variety of other family activities, including resort hotels, spas, shops and restaurants.

In addition to SeaWorld and Busch Gardens, plans call for the construction of a Discovery Cove similar to the park adjacent to SeaWorld Orlando in Central Florida. Discovery Cove in Orlando is an all-inclusive, reservations only park that features a variety of animal interactions and resort experiences, most notably swimming with bottlenose dolphins, rays and exotic fish. The first Aquatica, SeaWorld’s waterpark, opened this week in Orlando.

Preliminary design work and site planning is underway, with the first phase expected to open in 2012.

More than 300 million cubic yards of sand and 10 million tons of rock have been used in the construction of The Palm Jebel Ali, with the island adding more than 52 miles of coastline to Dubai. Reclamation of the island is nearly complete and Nakheel has already begun putting an infrastructure in place that will eventually support a population of more than 280,000 people.

BEC President, Jim Atchison, said the partnership provides tremendous growth opportunity for both companies: "Dubai has emerged as one of the world’s great travel destinations. Thanks to the vision of companies like Nakheel, the future for this city and this region is bright. We’re thrilled to be joining the tourism community in the emirate and look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Nakheel."

The Worlds of Discovery in Dubai will be designed and managed by BEC. The parks will be staffed by a combination of BEC expatriates and executives trained in BEC parks in the United States and workers recruited regionally.

SeaWorld Dubai will include many of the attractions visitors have come to enjoy in BEC’s U.S. operations, including killer whale, dolphin and sea lion attractions and marine themed rides. BEC will provide all animals for the parks developed in Dubai.

About Nakheel
Nakheel is one of the world’s largest privately held real estate developers, and a key player in realizing the vision of Dubai for the 21st century: creating a world-class destination for living, business and tourism.

Nakheel is developing an iconic portfolio of innovative landmark projects in Dubai across a range of sectors -- residential, commercial, retail and leisure.

Nakheel’s developments spread across more than 2 billion square feet of land, and its projects are projected to be worth $60 billion. Upon completion, Nakheel’s waterfront projects will have added more than 600 miles of shoreline to Dubai’s coastline.

Nakheel’s portfolio currently includes The Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Jebel Ali, The Palm Deira, The World, The Universe, Waterfront, Jumeirah Islands, Jumeirah Village, Jumeirah Park, Jumeirah Heights, The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Ibn Battuta Mall, Al Furjan, International City, Dragon Mart Complex, Dubai Promenade, Port Rashid and Dubai Design Centre.
