NEWS FROM AROUND THE "WORLD"

WALT DISNEY WORLD

"El Rio del Tiempo will be closed for refurbishment Tuesday, January 2, 2007, through Sunday, April 1, reopening Monday, April 2. Unofficial: The Three Caballeros, featuring Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito, will be integrated into a new redesign of the attraction." (Source: 2719hyperion.blogspot.com, 11/22/06)
--------------------------------
"'Finding Nemo -- The Musical,' which has been in public previews since Nov. 5, will be given a grand opening Jan. 24... Some older shows at the Disney parks use only a few singing actors and have other performers lip-sync to a recording... In 'Nemo,' though, all 18 of the actors speak or sing -- and there are two full-time casts and a third cast of subs." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/26/06)

See the Eiffel Tour or Walt Disney World from every direction!

Google Earth "gives you a list of sites to visit for information on a topic and also displays almost any location on the planet in 3-D. Google Earth accesses maps, satellite imagery and aerial photography taken in the last three years. That image can be manipulated using a variety of features: navigational controls for tilting, zooming in and out and moving left or right. You'll also find a distance calculator; line or route marker; overlay mechanisms that sandwich different images together; and ancillary video and print information from sources such as the National Park Service and the Discovery Channel." OUTSIDE WALT DISNEY WORLD

ICE! show at Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center

"The show, which Gaylord Palms began doing four years ago, has attracted thousands of visitors since opening day. Although many main attractions stay the same, additions are made each year... [Exhibits include] Santa's Toyland -- complete with gears and carved toy giraffes, cars and panda bears -- a Victorian house where a couple could be seen kissing under mistletoe, and a church wall with colorful stained-glass windows. A Nativity scene carved out of 470 blocks of ice, a crowd favorite, glowed in ice and light." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/26/06)
--------------------------------
St. Augustine

"The city turns on its charm and its lights in what is described as 'an Old World and a Victorian Christmas all wrapped into one.' The holiday season on northeast Florida's 'First Coast' has the trimmings of a small-town celebration, with parades, special events and tours of inns and homes -- any of which would be a good centerpiece for a weekend jaunt." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/25/06)
--------------------------------
"Gatorland -- shut down by a spectacular early-morning blaze that destroyed its entrance, gift shop and other buildings -- welcomed visitors back with music, dance, gator wrestling and hugs... Gatorland expects to have everything completely rebuilt by December 2007." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/25/06)

TOKYO DISNEY

"Just recently, the resort lost a daisy chain of lucrative contracts with Nissan Motor Co., Takara-Tomy, Morinaga, Nihon Suisan, Nihon Hills and Colgate when agreements it had with these top firms all reached their end at the same time... What's more, sponsors for two of Disneyland's most popular attractions -- Splash Mountain and the Western River Railroad -- still haven't been found." (Source: mainichi-msn.co.jp, 11/23/06)

BRANSON MISSOURI

"Already recognized by national publications and travel associations as a premier place to celebrate the Christmas holidays, America’s hometown entertainment capital is aglow with the spirit of the season, unveiling its biggest Christmas ever. The World’s Largest Titanic Museum Attraction, the trendy Branson Landing shopping-and-dining waterfront destination, Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater, the Music of Mannheim Steamroller and more will celebrate their first Christmas in Branson." WALT DISNEY WORLD

From time to time we'll publish profiles of certain attractions at WDW. Today's topic is the magical SpectroMagic parade!

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Combine the energy of seven lightning bolts, the electrical power of a fleet of 2,000 highway trucks and a sprinkling of pixie-dust. Then turn down the lights in Magic Kingdom. It's showtime for the Walt Disney World nighttime wonder "SpectroMagic."

Designed as a moving gallery for audiences along a darkened parade route, the show uses a techno-workshop full of lighting effects to re-create pixies and peacocks, sea horses and flying horses, flower gardens and fountains -- all the whimsical creatures and environments of Disney's worlds of wonder and fantasy.

Some "SpectroMagic" highlights:

* The Genie from Disney's "Aladdin" is the eccentric conductor of an orchestra producing a rainbow of music notes that flow into the air.
* Practical Pig, poised before the magical world of Disney's characters (a parade segment more than 100 feet in length and featuring castle towers, a carousel, a bejeweled coach and other dreamlands), flicks a paint brush to change the colors of the characters' world into silvery white.
* Chernabog, memorable for his role as the monstrous demon figure in "Fantasia," is portrayed in dark and eerie colors as he dramatically spreads his wings to a 38-foot span.
* The Three Good Fairies in Sleeping Beauty's garden create the sparkle of day among the flowers and insects...and magically transform the scene to the mystery of night.

"SpectroMagic" borrows from the prismatic holographic industry, military lighting developments, electro-luminescent and fiber-optic technologies, and tosses in light-spreading thermoplastics, clouds of underlit liquid-nitrogen smoke and good old-fashioned twinkle lights. The visual spectacle is choreographed to music produced for the show and presented over an array of 204 speakers with 72,000 watts of power.

It is the Disney entertainment wizards' 21st century show to rival the charm and splendor of the "Main Street Electrical Parade," which ended an encore engagement in March 2001. "SpectroMagic" is presented on select evenings at Magic Kingdom.

Mickey Mouse in glistening lights with "a confetti of light" sparkling in the air around him heralds the 20-minute production. Dressed in an amber and purple grand magician's cape, he plays the role of a light-controller capable of altering colors, brilliance and types of lighting effects.

Title float, proclaiming "SpectroMagic" in flowing fiber optics, is surrounded by SpectroMen atop spinning, darting whirlyballs. Effect is a ball of energy, alive with blue and purple mini-lights and twinkle lights. SpectroMen are robed in rope lights (points of light inside transparent ropes), mini-lights, fiber optics and twinkle lights. Electro-luminescent panels make dragonfly wings as bright as day and costumes enchanting.

Project lighting designer John Haupt is aglow as he talks about the "SpectroMagic" "confetti of light effect" that uses xenon flashlights and mirror balls. "It produces six-million-beam candlepower," he says. "With a normal flashlight, you MIGHT have 125 candlepower. It is so brilliant you may actually see little beams of light glancing through the air -- thousands of them -- like when sun rays come through the clouds." The effect showers the air with color at the beginning and end of "SpectroMagic."

Banks of deep-cycle batteries -- 75 tons of them -- provide the awesome power to light and move "SpectroMagic" through Magic Kingdom. The battery supply is equivalent to that of a fleet of 2,000 trucks.

Approximately 100 miles of fiber-optic cables and threads become conduits for shimmering lights that create everything from the strands of "hair" on King Triton's beard . . . to giant, four-foot hibiscus blooms and three-foot daisy petals.

Some 600,000 miniature lights chase in wild patterns, moving in perfect concert with sound effects and music. Goofy's xylophone keys dance with light at his touch. Mickey's cape transforms in a 24-step cascade of color sweeping from shoulder height to the base of the float and upward to 17 feet above his head. It's a "first" for a float, accomplished through a custom computer.

In fact, "SpectroMagic" is a marvel of the computer age. For lighting alone, approximately 30 mini-computers are utilized. Audio is stored digitally on state-of-the-art micro-chips. A sequence of electronic triggers activates the visual effects and audio effects, and electronic cross-references synchronize the show.

And with all those batteries, "SpectroMagic" just keeps on going . . . and going . . . and going -- at night in Magic Kingdom. (Source: WDW Press Release)

The new attraction, Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club, is supposed to open in mid- to late January but is far enough along that Disney is occasionally 'test playing' its routines before audiences over the next few weeks... The new attraction is taking the place of the old Timekeeper experience in a pavilion shared with the Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin ride. Disney has remodeled the room as a 400-seat theater."

During Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams," what better way to "gift" someone -- or yourself! -- than with dreamy merchandise from Walt Disney World Resort at holidaytime. And whether the budget leans to economical or extraordinary, a practically perfect present awaits for everyone on any holiday list. Here's a small sampling, from the sensible to the sensational!

* Tiny tots will love collecting Epcot's internationally-themed beanie babies that feature Mickey, Minnie and the gang dressed in the traditional garb of the 11 World Showcase nations. Look for Minnie Mouse in a Japanese kimono, Mickey Mouse in German lederhosen and Pluto in a Viking hat from Norway; $9 each.

* In Epcot's China pavilion, folklore of by-gone days comes to life in the shape of a four-inch, imitation-ivory elder. The statuette, pictured holding a dragon-head cane, peach and scroll, is said to bring power and longevity to its owner; $18.

* At The Art of Disney in Downtown Disney, animators are on hand to create personalized character sketches -- with you as the boss! After selecting a design (more than 400 choices), guests choose a shading color and options like a custom frame or collectible pin, then watch as the art comes to life in about 30 minutes. Standard designs are $35-$65; those framed with collectible pins start at $95.

* For a truly distinctive gift, visit Epcot's The Village Traders, where Andrew Mutiso creates African wood and soapstone carvings. Among his artwork is a family sculpture, their arms intertwined to symbolize unity. The piece, made of teak wood and dyed black with leather dye, is carved over four hours with an African tool called a ngomo; $75.99.

* In Epcot's Germany pavilion, little girls can watch as the dolls of their dreams are created piece by piece at Engle Puppe. Guests choose everything from the doll's face (one of seven) to its eye color, hair color, hair style and clothing. Disney princesses are also available in the likeness of Ariel, Jasmine, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Belle, Mulan, Tinkerbelle, Cinderella or Aurora; $160.

* It's all about the nose for this 3-foot-tall, solid wood, hand-painted and hand-carved Pinocchio in the Italy pavilion at Epcot. The striking toy's wooden nose unscrews and comes with a variety of lengthy attachments; $250.
* For a dose of history that's close to the heart, swing by Epcot's United Kingdom pavilion where a massive encyclopedia holds the personal genealogical history of more than 100,000 last names. For $70, guests can have their family crest embroidered on a polo shirt and for $325, they can have that same embroidered patch matted and framed along with a parchment detailing the history of the family's last name.

* Yo-ho-ho your way to Starabilia's in Downtown Disney where for $4,500 guests can own a piece of a pirate. Captain Jack Sparrow's pistol, used by Johnny Depp in "Pirates of the Carribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl," is nicely packaged in a shadow-box and gold frame, with a mini movie poster signed by Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush. A certificate of authenticity guarantees it's an original.

* Scrooge beware! This crystal replica of Cinderella Castle sparkles like a thousand stars. Weighing 42 pounds and standing 20 inches tall, the limited-edition piece features 28,255 hand-set Swarovski crystals, 23kt gold plates, and hand-applied enamel. The castle, featured at four locations around Walt Disney World Resort including Arribas Brothers in Downtown Disney, comes with a certificate of authenticity; $37,500.

* Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you this Hoffner Bass guitar signed by all four Beatles and housed at Starabilia's in Downtown Disney. The guitar is matted on black velvet, with an original black and white photo of the group to its right. With a $75,000 price tag, it holds the record for priciest item in the store.

DISNEYLAND CALIFORNIA

Dreams Come True, Sleigh Bells Ring And Snow Falls At 'The Merriest Place On Earth!'

‘Year Of A Million Dreams’ Holiday Magic At Disneyland Resort Makes Spirits Bright, November 10 Through January 7

ANAHEIM, Calif., As Disneyland Resort commences its celebration of "The Year of a Million Dreams," Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure parks will be transformed into dazzling holiday wonderlands featuring an array of spectacular entertainment, amazing decorations, festive foods and favorite adventures and attractions.

Additional holiday magic is provided this year as the Disney Dream Squad roams the Resort making dreams big and small come true for guests in this "Year of a Million Dreams." Many money-can’t-buy experiences " from exclusive Dream FASTPASSES for popular Disney attractions to around-the-world vacations or a stay in the special Mickey Mouse Penthouse at the Disneyland Hotel - will be awarded at random. There are other "Dreams Come True" opportunities for guests to meet and play with Disney Princesses at Disney Princess Fantasy Faire, duel with Darth Vadar at Jedi Training Academy or join in the fun of the High School Musical Pep Rally. "The Year of a Million Dreams" continues throughout 2007.

During the holidays, the fun is extended with expanded park hours for both Disneyland Resort theme parks for much of the season. Downtown Disney District and the Disneyland Resort hotels join in the merriment with twinkling lights and ornaments, special entertainment and holiday dining.

Disneyland

Holiday dreams come true as Disneyland adds a seasonal array of holiday shows, attractions and lively entertainment to such favorites, classic and new, as "Space Mountain," "Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters," and the newly enhanced "Pirates of the Caribbean."

Guests entering Main Street, U.S.A., will find the traditional evergreen Disneyland Christmas tree in Town Square. The tree is 60 feet tall and is decorated with 10,000 ornaments and holiday lights.

At the other end of Main Street, a favorite Disneyland holiday souvenir comes to life in the form of a giant Snow Globe at Sleeping Beauty Castle. Its occupant is a snowman whose holiday dream has led him to don Mickey Mouse ears and visit Disneyland. The Snow Globe will make its first appearance December 1.

"Santa’s Reindeer Round-up" returns to Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland. The ranch has been transformed into a "West Pole" getaway where Santa can unwind with Mrs. Claus and his team of reindeer. Kids and their families can chat with St. Nick, see real reindeer grazing in a corral, play some reindeer games, create take-home Yuletide souvenirs and join in holiday line dances with music from a Western trio.

The park’s annual holiday parade, "A Christmas Fantasy," will be presented November 17 through January 7 on Main Street, U.S.A. This ever-popular procession depicts an enchanting collection of holiday scenes, music and a cast of Disney characters and performers in Yuletide vignettes. Toy soldiers march in cadence, friendly snowmen dance and Santa waves from a soaring sleigh as his reindeer prance below.

"Haunted Mansion Holiday" returns with a madcap celebration where the traditions of Halloween and Christmas collide. The ghoulish but well-meaning Jack Skellington from the film Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas has come to the Haunted Mansion to transform it with his skewed vision of the holidays.

In Fantasyland, the classic "it’s a small world" again becomes "it’s a small world Holiday" with a popular seasonal overlay that transforms this classic Disneyland attraction into a holiday trip around the world. More than 300,000 glittery lights adorn the attraction’s façade.

A holiday evening in Disneyland is highlighted by the nightly fireworks spectacular, "Believe In Holiday Magic," debuting Friday, November 10. The fireworks conclude with a touching rendition of "White Christmas" and one of Disneyland’s most beloved holiday traditions: the magical snowfall which gently flutters down on Main Street, U.S.A., Small World Mall and New Orleans Square.

Disney’s California Adventure

Disney’s California Adventure will celebrate the season with fanciful park-wide decorations and lively entertainment. Guests approaching the park will immediately get in the holiday mood as the iconic entrance-way letters that spell "CALIFORNIA" have been magically transformed to appear as swirling red and white peppermint sticks.

Once inside the gates of Disney’s California Adventure, guests can enjoy the park’s newest attractions and shows, such as "The High School Musical Pep Rally" and "Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue!," as well as favorites like "Soarin’ Over California" and "The Twilight Zone Tower of Tower of Terror."

Inside "a bug’s land," Flik and his bug buddies have spread giant Christmas lights, oversized ornaments and towering candy canes throughout their realm. Alongside Paradise Bay, a resplendent Christmas tree provides a dazzling sight as other nearby trees sparkle with hundreds of lights and wreathes adorn lampposts.

The Sunshine Plaza becomes "Santa’s Beach Blast," where the Disney characters playfully blend classic holiday images with the California beach lifestyle. Santa the surfer greets guests near a Woody wagon sleigh, and the area is filled with seaside-style holiday decorations.

The 500-acre Disneyland Resort in southern California features two spectacular theme parks " the world-renowned original Disney theme park, Disneyland ("The Happiest Place on Earth") and Disney’s California Adventure where Disney magic meets California fun, plus the Downtown Disney District, a public esplanade of unique and exciting dining, entertainment and shopping experiences. Resort hotels include the luxurious 745-room Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, the magical 990-room Disneyland Hotel and the surfside fun of the 502-room Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel.

This Day in Disney History

FYI

Beth, our travel agent, writes: "2008 cruises (through spring) are now available for booking. The best prices are always achieved by booking this early. You can cancel the reservation and get a full refund of your deposit later if you change your mind, so you have nothing to lose.

If you were thinking about heading to Disney the first weekend of January forget it. While the new winter promotion does apply to that weekend, available space is nearly nonexistent because of the Disney Marathon weekend (Jan 5-8). I know a few tricks, though, so if you're stuck and really need to go that week I might be able to get you in.

The weekend of January 12 is also an extremely busy one with little available space, but again, if you need to go that weekend, let me know and I'll give it a shot."

More Details Released Regarding the Suite at Cinderella's Castle

"The 650-square-foot suite has a bedchamber, a bathroom and a parlor. The parlor has two sets of three windows: one overlooks Fantasyland; the other, Liberty Square... Designs call for an elevator inspired by Cinderella's carriage, a foyer with inlaid stone floors, wooden walls, a big stone (though faux) chateau-style fireplace, two big, soft beds and other pieces of faux period artwork and furniture. The princess' glass slippers will be on display. The grotto-style bathroom will be dominated by three large, handmade mosaics of 17th-century landscapes." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/14/06)

Universal Orlando confirmed Tuesday that the annual holiday celebration at Seuss Landing at Islands of Adventure is not returning this year... [However, the Grinch] will constantly be available for up-close and personal meet-and-greets throughout Seuss Landing." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/15/06)

Disney's Planned Community, Celebration, Gets Mixed Reviews

"Ten years ago, Walt Disney Co. welcomed its first families into a town built around families, foot traffic and community. To the rest of the country, Celebration was a precedent-setting experiment in suburban planning -- and a test of whether a company that specialized in theme parks could engineer a true community." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/10/06)

"Universal Orlando has finally landed the signature act it has long sought for CityWalk: a resident show of the high-energy, colorful, splashy, rockin' Blue Man Group... Ticket prices are planned to be $45 for matinee performances and $55 for evening shows. The shows would be held in the former Nickelodeon soundstage in a corner of the Universal Studios theme park. A new entrance will be created directly from City Walk, adjacent to the Hard Rock Cafe, so that patrons could attend Blue Man without buying theme park tickets." The show debuts June, 2007. "[Cypress Gardens owner] Buescher said installation of the famed Starliner [$5 million wooden] roller coaster, purchased from a park in Panama City, will begin almost immediately. It will be open in late May. And a new attraction for the park's youngest guests is on the way. Called Bugsville, it will feature 13 rides and interactive features in a four-story building." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/09/06)
--------------------------------
"Universal Orlando and NBC are turning an Islands of Adventure theater into a live broadcast set to house a new daytime TV talk show that will be seen around the country. iVillage Live will be a television version of NBC's established iVillage women's forum on the Internet... People may attend iVillage Live two ways. Islands of Adventure visitors can walk in from inside the park (though reservations are advised and will be taken at the front gate). There also is a new, outside entrance to the show, so people can make reservations to attend without buying a park ticket." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/09/06)

Gatorland Fire Ruled Accidental

"Florida fire investigators on Wednesday said a heating element in an enclosed snake exhibit likely started the fire that gutted the entrance hall and gift shop at Gatorland in south Orange County.

The Monday morning blaze destroyed the 7,000-square-foot building, causing an estimated $2 million to $3 million in damage that has forced the alligator theme park to close for at least two weeks." The park will reopen by Nov. 22; the gift shop will reopen in nine to 15 months. (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 11/09/06)

"A new Buzz Lightyear ride has boosted the fortunes of long-suffering theme-park operator Euro Disney. Brighter Lights, Extra Nights and Extraordinary Delights: Walt Disney World Resort Unwraps Plans for 2006 Holiday Season

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. -- Guests to Walt Disney World Resort will find their holidays even merrier with a bigger, brighter celebration this season. New features for 2006 include:

* More nights of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, Holidays Around the World and Candlelight Processional
* New celebrity narrators at Candlelight Processional at Epcot
* New choreographed "dancing" lights at The Osborne Family's Spectacle of Dancing Lights
* New shopping options at World of Disney at Downtown Disney Marketplace

Here's a preview of the holiday merriment in store beginning as early as mid-November:

# More Nights of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party -- Magic Kingdom has added four more nights for the park's annual celebration -- meaning there will be 18 evenings brimming with holiday magic: Nov. 13, 17, 27, 28, 30 and Dec. 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 18, 19, 21, 22. Beginning at 7 p.m. (after regular park hours), guests with tickets to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party can enjoy a holiday celebration featuring festive live stage shows, the famous "Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Parade," Disney characters in their holiday best for meet-and-greets and the nighttime spectacular "Holiday Wishes--Celebrate the Spirit of the Season," a winter wonderland of dazzling fireworks set to classic holiday tunes.

No holiday celebration would be complete without snow -- even in Florida, where the weather outside is hardly frightful. At Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party there is a 100 percent chance of flurries on Main Street, U.S.A each party night. And just in case the sight causes a chill: Complimentary hot cocoa and cookies are served. In addition to the holiday fun, guests can enjoy many of the most popular Magic Kingdom attractions.

Admission to the party requires a separate ticket. Tickets are $45.95 plus tax for ages 10/up and $37.95 plus tax for ages 3-9 (but with advance purchase, guests can save $6 per ticket for select dates). Note: Many party nights have sold out in advance. To purchase tickets, guests can call 407/W-DISNEY or visit disneyworld.com.

# Epcot Presents Holidays Around the World -- With one extra event date this year, Epcot World Showcase transforms into a splendor of international holiday traditions and storytelling beginning Nov. 24. Holiday icons who delight children around the globe -- such as France's Père Noël and Italy's La Befana -- make special appearances in their respective countries, while Santa Claus himself pays visits to the American Adventure showcase. Guests see holiday traditions and legends as they are observed around the world, with Hanukah and Kwanzaa customs on display as well.

At 6 p.m. nightly, Mickey Mouse and his friends host a giant tree-lighting ceremony, complete with music and storytelling, in World Showcase Plaza. A dazzling synchronized light show -- "The Lights of Winter" -- illuminates a canopy adorning the World Showcase breezeway bridge. The Epcot evening spectacular of lights, lasers and fireworks, "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth," completes the celebration with a magical holiday finale. As an added bonus, guests with a long holiday shopping list will discover one-of-a-kind gifts with international flair throughout World Showcase. The special holiday fun takes place daily, Nov. 24-Dec. 30, and is included with regular Epcot admission.

# Sparkling Candlelight Processional at Epcot -- A highlight of Holidays Around the World, the traditional Candlelight Processional at Epcot treats guests to a grand musical performance featuring a mass choir and a full orchestra accompanied by a celebrity narrator who retells the beloved story of Christmas. Celebrity narrators scheduled to appear include (subject to change):

* Nov. 24-26 - NEW! David Robinson (former NBA player, San Antonio Spurs)
* Nov. 27-29 - John O’Hurley (TV’s "Seinfeld" and "Dancing With The Stars")
* Nov. 30-Dec. 2 - Rita Moreno ("West Side Story")

* Dec. 6-8 - Brian Dennehy ("Tommy Boy," TV’s "The 4400")
* Dec. 9-11 - Stephen Curtis Chapman (Christian music’s most-decorated artist)

Presentations of Candlelight Processional are daily, Nov. 24-Dec. 30, at 5, 6:45 and 8:15 p.m., and are included with regular Epcot admission. Candlelight Processional lunch and dinner packages, available for an additional charge, include preferred seating for a performance of Candlelight Processional as well as dinner at a select Epcot restaurant. To make reservations for these packages, guests can call 407/WDW-DINE.

# Spectacle of Lights Transforms Disney-MGM Studios -- The Streets of America backlot area sparkles with millions of twinkling lights beginning Nov. 13 and continuing through Jan. 7, 2007, during The Osborne Family's Spectacle of Dancing Lights presented by Sylvania. This year, the spectacle has been enhanced to include choreographed "dancing" lights which swirl and soar to an exhilarating medley of holiday music every 15 minutes, thanks to electronic wizardry featuring more than 400 dimmers. Every building façade, all the trees, wreaths, bells and holiday figures dance to classic tunes among "Florida snow" flurries. Also bringing the Disney-MGM Studios backlot to life are three-dimensional and motion-based displays - some originally created at the Osborne home in Arkansas by businessman Jennings Osborne as a holiday display for the delight of his daughter.

After the home exhibit grew larger and brighter over the years, the million-light display was transported to Disney-MGM Studios in 1995, where the spectacle continues to grow larger and brighter each year. Some of Osborne's original creations still sparkling brightly at the park today are a giant Mickey Mouse light, dozens of flying angels and Santa Claus light designs.

The "Hollywood Holly-Day Parade," a festival of favorite Disney characters dressed in their dazzling holiday best, jingles down Hollywood Boulevard this holiday season as well.

# Disney's Animal Kingdom Decked for the Holidays -- Jolly jingle will fill the jungle as Disney's Animal Kingdom is spiritedly transformed for the holiday season from Nov. 13 through Jan. 7, 2007.

A luminous 65-foot tree sparkling at the park's entrance sets the stage as the holiday season goes on safari with "Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade" daily. At Camp Minnie-Mickey, guests can meet Disney characters dressed in their holiday best while carolers fill the air with renditions of favorite seasonal classics at Santa Goofy's Holiday Village. The ornamentally decorated village features Christmas and character trees, live entertainers and holiday photo opportunities. DinoLand U.S.A. also takes on a festive flair and Donald Duck decks the halls of Donald's Breakfastosaurus, the daily character breakfast experience presented at Restaurantosaurus. For more information or reservations, guests may call 407/WDW-DINE.

# Downtown Disney Shopping Spectacular -- Downtown Disney, with unique gift opportunities of every kind, is a favorite spot for holiday shoppers who are treated to holiday-themed display windows, colorful light displays and photo opportunities with Santa Claus himself. World of Disney, located in Downtown Disney Marketplace, recently unveiled new interactive elements for young pirates and princesses as part of the store's shopping experience. Other popular Downtown Disney stores include Once Upon a Toy, Team Mickey sports shop, Virgin Megastore, LEGO Imagination Center and Disney's Days of Christmas holiday shop.

# Ring in the New Year, Disney Style -- Walt Disney World Resort offers many options for celebrating the official kickoff of 2007 -- from ringing in the New Year at a special party at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island to getting festive in the parks.

* Pleasure Island at Downtown Disney features music, street dance parties and a countdown to midnight during a New Year's Eve extravaganza that has become a Walt Disney World tradition. Partygoers for the special-ticket event must be 21 or older to participate. For more information or to order tickets, guests may call 407/W-DISNEY.
* Epcot celebrates the New Year "around the world" with DJs and evening dance parties located throughout World Showcase and lasting late into the evening, as well as a special presentation of the "Illuminations: Reflections of Earth" lights, lasers and fireworks display.
* Disney-MGM Studios celebrates New Year's Eve not only with multiple presentations of "Fantasmic!" a spectacular of Disney movies and music, but also with a special "Lights! Camera! Happy New Year!" fireworks spectacular, as well as a DJ dance party around the Sorcerer Hat Stage. Park guests have the opportunity to experience Disney-MGM Studios right up until the New Year officially gets underway at midnight.
* Magic Kingdom features special presentations of the "SpectroMagic" parade and multiple nighttime fireworks displays. "Holiday Wishes" lights up the sky early in the evening, and guests who make it to midnight can see "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks, which begins just before the New Year kicks off. MilitaryConnection.com and The Snowball Express: Because the Children are Heroes Too!

(PRWEB via PRWeb) November 1, 2006 -- MilitaryConnection.com is proud to join forces with the M. Scott Kerr Foundation in their worthy effort to provide a "dream weekend" for the children of fallen soldiers. The Snowball Express will take place from December 15th through December 17th, and will benefit children who have lost a parent in Iraq or Afghanistan in the War on Terror. We are diligently working to make dreams come true for these children who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Our goal is to make this holiday season as joyous an occasion as possible. The children and their surviving parent or guardian will fly to Southern California courtesy of Southwest Airlines, and will stay at hotels in Orange County that have been donated by corporations such as Marriott and Ayres, among others. Oakley World Headquarters is providing a party for the families, featuring an extreme sports show and major entertainment. The Crystal Cathedral will be hosting a special presentation of "The Glory of Christmas". The weekend will end on a high note, with a full day at Disneyland/ California Adventure hosted by the Walt Disney Corporation.

Michael Kerr, founder of Snowball Express, stated: "I am very grateful to the wonderful corporations that are helping, and to the Rotary Clubs across America. I also appreciate the many non-profits and other organizations such as MilitaryConnection.com, Homefront America, A Million Thanks, and of course the Defense Department’s America Supports You for their wonderful support and assistance. We want to get the word out to these military families that may not be aware of the program. This event will be the first of many to salute these very special children."

"I cannot wait to see the smiles on the faces of these deserving children, to lighten their burden in some small way," said Debbie Gregory, President of MilitaryConnection.com. "We will be doing whatever we can to help make this event a reality. I want to challenge all of the great corporate citizens of America to lend a helping hand. We can move mountains when we work together, and we need everyone’s participation," Gregory added.

If you are the surviving spouse or guardian whose child has lost a parent in the War on Terror and wish to attend this dream weekend, please register online at www.snowballexpress.org. If you’re an individual and wish to make a donation or a corporation interested in sponsorship, please contact us at www.snowballexpress.org or click on the special banner at www.militaryconnection.com. These children are everyone’s children, and their parents were Americans serving their nation. Please help. Please dig deep. They deserve no less.

While guests enjoy a medieval banquet, without silverware, knights compete in games of skill astride magnificent Andalusian stallions. NEWS FROM AROUND THE "WORLD"

WALT DISNEY WORLD

"Ever wonder what it would be like to work at Disney World, one of the happiest places on Earth? Students have the opportunity through the Walt Disney College Program. Like other internships, the Walt Disney College Program has negative and positive benefits." (Source: chicagoflame.com, 11/06/06)

"Running away to join the circus isn't what it used to be. Now it's by invitation only to the kinds of acrobats, gymnasts, martial artists, dancers and other entertainers who have mostly trained their whole lives for such a chance. And even they must still attend circus school before they might get offered a dream job as a clown, a trapeze artist or an aerial ballerina. At least that's the way it's done at Cirque du Soleil." "Gatorland... burned nearly beyond recognition Monday -- but the family that founded the park in 1949 vowed it will reopen... The gift shop, administrative offices and much of a recent $1 million renovation were destroyed, including wildlife murals on the exterior of the building, landscaping and reinforcement and a fresh paint job for those famous gator jaws." WALT DISNEY WORLD

Costumers Weave Magic in Fabric at Walt Disney World Resort
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Since Disneyland opened in 1955, costumes have played an integral role in creating the vivid worlds of fantasy that exist at Disney's theme parks around the globe.

At Walt Disney World Resort, tens of thousands of cast members work "on stage" in thousands of different costume styles -- from the rustic ranchers at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground to the spooky bellhops at The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

When Walt Disney Imagineers set out to refurbish a classic Disney attraction that has entertained millions of Magic Kingdom guests since it debuted in 1971, the goal was to restore "it's a small world" to its opening-day luster while incorporating whimsical touches from its inspiration at Disneyland.

For the seven cast members that comprise the Magic Kingdom Creative Costuming Department, that meant meticulously inspecting the 2,296 culturally specific garment pieces worn by the attraction's 289 miniature figures representing children around the world.

When the nearly yearlong project was complete, each of the singing figures had received a new costume element. For some, it was a new pair of tiny shoes; for others, it was an entirely new outfit created to match the original specifications.

In the Europe portion of the Walt Disney World attraction, a dancing boy representing Spain has been replaced with a female flamenco dancer clad in a ruffled red polka-dot dress made of fabric shipped from France. Elsewhere, the boat ride's Asia section once included two bowing Japanese boys that have been replaced with a Japanese boy and girl each dressed in traditional costumes rich with silk taffeta and brocade.

Fun Facts

* Walt Disney World Costuming is the world's largest working wardrobe.
* More than 1,100 Costuming and Cosmetology cast members work at Walt Disney World Resort, including more than 140 seamstresses.
* Costuming and Cosmetology cast members hail from more than 30 countries around the globe, with more than 30 languages and dialects spoken among the diverse staff.
* The Costuming team provides outfits for more than 40,000 cast members at the Florida resort, with more than 3,500 different costume styles in use.
* Thirty-two separate costume-issue facilities exist at Walt Disney World Resort.
* The Costuming team maintains 103,500 square feet of storage for all garments worn by cast at Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Vacation Club resorts at Hilton Head, S.C., and Vero Beach, Fla., and the World of Disney retail store in New York City.
* More than 400,000 yards of fabric exist in inventory -- nearly enough to stretch from Walt Disney World Resort to Miami.
* The buttons used in costuming workrooms -- if stacked -- would equal 96 towers as high as the 189-foot-tall Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom.
* Textile Services at Walt Disney World Resort sorts, cleans, hangs and redistributes an average of 31,000 garments per day. (Source: WDW Press Release, 10/20/06)
