"do you have any advice for people visiting Disney with
Epilepsy, my sister will be coming with us next year and I am bit worried which rides to avoid etc.

Thank you"

For a guide which describes access for the disabled to specific theme park rides and attractions, pick up a copy of the Walt Disney World Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities at all wheelchair rental locations. You can also order the book by mail by writing to:

Walt Disney World Guest Communications
Box 10000
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830

I can't find any specific information for epileptics in their handbook, so be sure to mention your concern to the castmember at each ride and attraction that takes place in the dark.

Alain writes:

"What if I purchased a [child] ticket [for] my daughter, but the trip was postponed and on the FIRST visit she is too old for the child pass? What will they do? Thanks."

We have 2 scenarios:

A partially used ticket purchased for a child who is now a teen - Disney will upgrade the remaining days on the ticket to adult status at no extra charge. Be sure to bring your child to Guest Relations when you upgrade.

A new unused ticket purchased for a child who is now a teen - Disney will subtract what you paid for the older ticket from the price of a new adult ticket and charge you the difference.

2007 Children's Miracle Network Classic

Tickets for the 2007 Children's Miracle Network Classic presented by Wal-mart are on sale now -- including the return of an offering that provides a feast for the palate as well as the golf appetite, and a badge that provides economical week-long admission.

The tournament will be played Nov. 1-4 on Disney's Magnolia and Palm courses, with practice rounds Oct. 29-31 on the same Walt Disney World Resort layouts.

After a successful debut last year, the Ruth's Chris Fairway Club returns this year, offering patrons unlimited food and beverage from a special Ruth's Chris menu. There will be three Ruth's Chris Fairway Club locations on the Magnolia course during all four tournament days and a location on the Palm course Thursday and Friday. A pass good any one day is $75, and a pass good for two days is $150.

Also back is the money-saving weekly badge which provides admission to the general grounds during all four tournament days and during practice rounds. The cost is $50. A single-day ticket for a tournament round costs $30, while a single-day ticket on practice days costs $10.

All tickets can be purchased online at childrensmiraclenetworkclassic.com. Guests can call the Children's Miracle Network Classic hotline at 407/824-2250 for more information.

The 2007 Children's Miracle Network Classic marks a continuation of the longest-running PGA TOUR event in Central Florida. It is part of the new PGA TOUR Fall Series and is the last event on the 2007 PGA TOUR schedule. The tournament's outcome will determine the final standings on the PGA TOUR official money list. Joe Durant won the 2006 Classic, which offered an event record purse of $4.6 million.

The Children's Miracle Network Classic is part of Disney's Wide World of Sports, which includes championship golf courses, bass fishing, the Richard Petty Driving Experience and a host of other sports and recreational activities. The centerpiece is Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, a 220-acre campus that is the leading venue for amateur and professional sports in the world with more than 180 events annually involving more than 30 different sports.

Epcot Executive Chef Christine Weissman Oversees Culinary Creativity For Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

Christine Weissman has lived and worked in five countries, and she speaks four languages, so it's fitting that one of her key roles as the executive chef of Epcot is running more than 25 international marketplaces during the yearly Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

Every day, Weissman oversees a culinary team of more than 350 serving up great tastes at all the Epcot Future World and World Showcase restaurants. But throughout the year, she and her team also work non-stop to create new recipes and menus for the popular food and wine festival, which runs Sept. 28 through Nov. 11. In addition to planning the marketplace culinary samplings, Weissman and her team build lavish menus for the festival's weekly Party for the Senses grand tasting and for a lineup of elegant dining events scheduled during the six-week festival.

Weissman, has moved through the culinary ranks in a variety of roles during 10 years with The Walt Disney Company. She has been chef de cuisine of catering at Disney's Contemporary Resort and Magic Kingdom, specialty chef in the Biergarten Restaurant at Epcot, chef at Seasons Dining Room at the former Disney Institute, and she was on the opening team at Disneyland Paris.

Before joining Disney, Weissman was sous chef at Windows on the World, Cellar in the Sky in New York City. She has held additional culinary positions in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Weissman is a certified Master Chef (Meister Pruefung I.H.K.), and is also certified at Level One by the Court of Master Sommeliers. Twice Weissman has been the featured chef at events at New York's prestigious James Beard House.

"Overseeing planning for the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is an exciting culinary experience," Weissman says.

"I love to develop menus and food items that challenge my skills as a chef and that create experiences for our guests that they will remember for years to come," she says.

Christine Weissman At a Glance:

Hometown:
Bielefeld, Germany

How many years as a chef?
23 years

Describe your culinary style.
Classical cooking techniques, combined with personal experiences in the kitchen -- wonderful flavors, original presentations, and harmony with seasonal ingredients

Biggest inspiration?
I have two big inspirations. My father, Dieter, gave me the opportunity to work in our family-owned restaurant as a dishwasher, and taught me the basic culinary skills. Also, I trained under Martin Oexle, a celebrity chef from Germany, who taught me the key to success in the food and beverage business is all about detail.

What do you enjoy most about being a chef?
That every day is a new adventure, and that I can share my knowledge and skills with my team and watch them develop their culinary abilities to become successful professionals.

What are some of your favorite dishes to prepare?
# Westphalian Potato Pancakes with Smoked Salmon and Sour Cream Drizzle
# Whole Roasted Red Snapper on a Fingerling Potato and Tomato Ragoût
# Sweetbread and Lobster Ravioli, Braised Fennel, and Truffle
# Foie Gras and Lobster Cottelette with Lobster Foam
# Tete de Moix with Homemade Champagne Kraut

Favorite kitchen gadget?
Spaetzle Board. I like to make spaetzle the old fashioned way ("Scharped from the Board"). I often do this with my daughters at home.

Favorite snack food? Secret culinary indulgence?
For a snack, cheeses with a baguette and a little wine. To indulge, lobster and foie gras.

What food holds childhood memories for you?
Oxtail ragout -- this dish reminds me of my grandmother, and Cordon Bleu, a breaded veal loin stuffed with ham and cheese. (Source: Press Release, 07/24/07)

DISNEYLAND CALIFORNIA

Disney’S High School Musical 2 World Premiere Set For Downtown Disney At Disneyland Resort Tuesday, August 14

The biggest splash of the summer, the world premiere of Disney Channel's highly-anticipated High School Musical 2, will be hosted at AMC Theatres in Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort on Tuesday, August 14.

It will be the latest highlight of the ongoing Year of a Million Dreams celebration at the Resort, and the newest chapter in the unparalleled worldwide popularity of High School Musical. The phenomenon has even extended into Disney’s California Adventure, where High School Musical has jumped out into the park as a live show.

Stars of the movie, along with director-choreographer Kenny Ortega and other celebrity guests will walk the carpet in Downtown Disney prior to the 6:00pm screening. Following the Downtown Disney festivities, they will attend an invitation-only poolside party at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. High School Musical 2 follows other high-profile premieres hosted at the Disneyland Resort, including all three Pirates of the Caribbean films. This will mark the first time a movie made especially for Disney Channel has been premiered at the Resort.

Kids, tweens and families have found the first movie's appealing music, charismatic cast and high-energy dancing irresistible. Rich Ross, president of Disney Channel Worldwide, said, "What better way to celebrate this movie than to have its world premiere screening at the happiest place on earth!"
The music and spirited fun of the High School Musical movie have been entertaining park guests throughout the current Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disneyland Resort in Southern California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. During live daily performances of the High School Musical Pep Rally, an interactive sing-along street show, guests have been catching Wildcat fever as they learn lively cheers and cool dance moves from the hit movie's popular songs. And inspired by the sequel, a brand new High School Musical 2: School’s Out! show will spring to life in Disney’s California Adventure beginning Saturday, August 18.

"We've seen the amazing popularity of High School Musical firsthand as our guests enthusiastically participate in the Pep Rally," said Ed Grier, President of the Disneyland Resort. "Needless to say, High School Musical 2 now brings new opportunities for our guests to further engage in the High School Musical phenomenon."

Reprising their singing and dancing roles in the movie sequel are: Zac Efron as star athlete Troy Bolton, Vanessa Hudgens as brainy transfer student Gabriella Montez, Ashley Tisdale as drama club diva Sharpay Evans, Lucas Grabeel as her brother and on-stage partner Ryan Evans, Corbin Bleu as teammate and best friend Chad Danforth and Monique Coleman as academic decathlete Taylor McKessie. Also returning are Alyson Reed as Ms. Darbus, Chris Warren, Jr. as Zeke Baylor, Olesya Rulin as Kelsi Nielsen, KayCee Stroh as Martha Cox, Ryne Sanborn as Jason and Bart Johnson as Coach Bolton. Mark L. Taylor joins the cast as the country club manager, Mr. Fulton.

In the contemporary movie musical High School Musical 2, the Wildcats are back. This time, school's out and East High School hoops star Troy Bolton, A-student Gabriella Montez and the rest of the Wildcats are getting ready for a fun summer vacation. But that all changes when scheming drama queen Sharpay Evans uses her dad's connections to get Troy a job at Lava Springs, their ritzy country club, and a chance at a college basketball scholarship. The catch? He'll have to turn his back on his friends and pair up with Sharpay in a musical extravaganza for the club's annual talent show. But when Gabriella and the Wildcats start making plans without Troy, he must decide where his loyalties truly lie.

High School Musical 2, part of the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie franchise, premieres Friday, August 17 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel U.S., and will be featured Saturday and Sunday, August 18 and 19, in online and on-air programming events hosted by the movie's cast. It will also premiere on Disney Channels around the world beginning in September.

Disney Channel is a 24-hour kid-driven, family inclusive television network that taps into the world of kids and families through original series and movies. Currently available on basic cable in over 90 million U.S. homes and to millions of other viewers on 27 Disney Channels around the world, Disney Channel is part of the Disney-ABC Television Group.

Disneyland Resort features two spectacular theme parks - Disneyland (the original Disney theme park) and Disney's California Adventure - plus the Downtown Disney district comprised of unique dining, entertainment and shopping experiences. Resort hotels include the luxurious 745-room Disney's Grand Californian Hotel, the magical 990-room Disneyland Hotel and the "day at the beach" fun of the 502-room Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. DISNEYLAND CALIFORNIA

Halloween Dreams Come True Beginning Sept. 21
When Parks and Characters Are Transformed
For the Autumn Holiday Season

Following up on the success of its inaugural season last year, Disney’s HalloweenTime will return to the Disneyland Resort this fall with a lively mix of Disney characters in seasonal costumes, whimsical décor, decked-out attractions, themed shows and tasty treats designed with the whole family in mind. This inviting interactive Halloween experience at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure will begin a week earlier this year starting Friday, Sept. 21, and continuing through Wednesday, Oct. 31. HalloweenTime at the Resort is part of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at Disney Parks.

All new this Halloween season, the Sunshine Plaza in California Adventure will become the site of "Candy Corn Acres," where Mickey Mouse’s pal Goofy will set out to grow the West’s biggest and most unusual candy corn: candy corn coconuts, candy corn carrots and candy corn pumpkins, among other delicious produce offerings. The Plaza will be overgrown with the "fruits" of Goofy’s labor.

Also expanded will be Mickey’s HalloweenTreat, a separate-ticket nighttime event which gives kids and their families the opportunity to dress in their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat throughout Disney’s California Adventure after it has closed to day guests. This year’s HalloweenTreat will offer tricksters of all ages more treat locations along with fun character encounters (including an all-new nightly cavalcade), interactive games, and spirited music with DJ Mickey. Older kids and parents will want to experience the heart-dropping Twilight Zone Tower of Terror® and meet the hotel’s ghostly staff members who materialize only during the Halloween season.

This year, additional nights have been scheduled for Mickey’s HalloweenTreat: Thursdays and Fridays beginning October 4 plus Monday-Wednesday, October 29-31. Tickets go on sale August 1.

During regular park hours at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure, Disney’s HalloweenTime will offer parents and children lots of not-so-scary fun in addition to the parks’ many popular Year of a Million Dreams adventures. HalloweenTime experiences will include special Halloween shows, meet-and-greets with Disneyland characters in their Halloween costumes and spooky-silly holiday themed decorations which guests begin to spot as soon as they reach the entrances to the parks.

Jack-o’-lantern creations resembling Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy will adorn the top of the Main Entrance to Disneyland park. Across the Esplanade, at the entrance to Disney’s California Adventure park, guests will see the iconic 11-foot-tall CALIFORNIA letters transformed into giant pieces of candy corn.

Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland will once again be decked out for the Main Street Pumpkin Festival. Guests will be greeted there by Miss Cobbler, Queen of the Pumpkin Festival, and Constable Jackie O’Leary. More than 300 jack-o’-lanterns will peek out of shop windows, while festive orange and yellow bunting will grace the quaint Victorian buildings. The whimsical 12-foot tall Mickey Mouse jack-o’-lantern, complete with pumpkin ears, will return to highlight Town Square, smiling at guests as they enter Main Street and giving them a playful wink when they depart.

The Central Plaza of Disneyland, near Sleeping Beauty Castle, will also be specially decorated with Disney character-inspired jack-o’-lanterns surrounding the famous "Partners" statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse. Additionally, the Disney characters themselves will get into the "spirit" of the occasion, wearing their favorite Halloween costumes, while meeting and greeting guests.

"Woody’s Halloween Roundup" once again will take over Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland. The Roundup fun will include a visit with the animals in the "Petting Boo," crafts and musical activities including a Halloween Hoedown and a spooky interactive sing-along version of "Old McDonald Had a Farm" featuring black cats, ghosts and werewolves. Woody, Jessie and Bullseye from the Disney*Pixar Toy Story movies will appear throughout the day on stage in comic adventure tales hosted by a guitar playing, storytelling cowboy. The Roundup will also feature an array of tasty treats to satisfy the most monstrous of appetites, including cotton candy in Halloween colors and Creepy Cookie Critters that guests create themselves.

Returning to Disney’s California Adventure will be the spooky Hollywood Tower Hotel staff members who haunt the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror during the Halloween season, and "Golden Screams," where Disney villains roll out the black carpet for an awards ceremony - "Best Scream," "Best Act of Villainy" - held daily inside the Golden Dreams Theatre.

Favorite Disney villains, including Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians, the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Captain Hook from Peter Pan and others, will roam both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure for HalloweenTime meet-and-greets with park guests.

Throughout the Disneyland Resort during Disney’s HalloweenTime, families can enjoy unique Halloween-themed food items including Zero’s Ghostly Ghoulash, a favorite of Jack Skellington’s pet in "Haunted Mansion Holiday," and merchandise including Disney costumes, collectible pins and coins, and a special set of Halloween-themed Mickey Mouse ears resembling a Mickey jack-o’-lantern.

And no Halloween celebration at Disneyland would be complete without the return of Jack Skellington and his friends to transform the Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square into the popular seasonal "Haunted Mansion Holiday." Inspired by the innovative animated film Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas, "Haunted Mansion Holiday" depicts the holiday mayhem that occurs when Halloween and Christmas traditions collide.

Disney’s HalloweenTime will be presented throughout the Disneyland Resort from Sept. 21 - Oct. 31, 2007 as part of the Year of a Million Dreams celebration at the Resort. For more information about new attractions, the Year of a Million Dreams, and vacations at Disneyland Resort visit www.disneyland.com, call (866) 60-DISNEY or visit local travel agents. CYPRESS GARDENS

Friday the 13th proves to be lucky for Starliner!

Screams of joy filled the air as Starliner sent passengers soaring once again, proving that Friday the 13th can be quite the lucky day for some folks. After several delays, the much-anticipated coaster crested the first hill this afternoon.

"While it has been a long time coming, the Starliner is well worth the wait," says CEO/President Kent Buescher with a grin. "I rode the coaster at its original home in Panama City Beach and really like the ride. But the rebuild at Cypress Gardens? Smoother, faster and much more thrilling. And everyone I’ve spoken with who has ridden the ride agrees it is a pure adrenaline rush."

At its height, the Starliner tops out at 70 feet on the first hill. After hurtling passengers 67 feet toward the ground at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, the coaster then skims a series of bunny hills and camel backs, providing plenty of negative-g’s and the much-coveted "air time." The park has stayed true to the original design with a few exciting profile modifications, one of which is the turn-around. It is now banked at a higher degree and has a sharper curve, creating a much more exciting diving, hair-pin turn.

"I have got to ride this again!" exclaimed Chris Craftchick, of Orlando, as he came off the ride for the first time. High praise indeed from one who knows roller coasters. Kraftchick serves as Florida’s regional representative for the American Coaster Enthusiasts. And so he went again...and again.

"Starliner is so incredibly fun; lots of air time and extremely smooth-just a phenomenal ride! It’s a coaster definitely worth repeating because each seat gives you a different ride," he goes on to explain. "Every bit of the track is exciting, especially the turn-around and I can’t wait to bring my family and friends back out to ride. It’s a perfect coaster for Cypress Gardens."

The Starliner, originally built in 1963 in Panama City Beach, delighted millions of coaster fans for more than 40 years before Miracle Strip Amusement Park closed in 2004. The historic coaster was created by master coaster designer John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company and is one of only eleven Allen coasters still in operation throughout the world. At a cost of more than $4 million, the coaster is the park’s biggest ride investment to date. (Source: Press Release, 07/13/07)

Disney Guests Can Take a Cooling Plunge at Two of America’s Most Popular Water Parks

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- It's summer in Florida. Daytime temperatures are regularly pushing into the 90s. What's a vacationer to do to cool off?

At Walt Disney World Resort, guests can choose between a mountain ski retreat and a tropical getaway to take the proverbial plunge into water fun at two of the most popular water parks in North America:

# Like a surfside playground left behind by a "great storm" for modern-day Swiss Family Robinsons, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon features breaking waves, saltwater snorkeling pool and gushing water surges; and

# Disney's Blizzard Beach offers all the spine-chilling thrills of a northern ski resort, whether it's bobsledding down the "snowy" slopes of Mt. Gushmore or plunging straight down Summit Plummet at up to 55 mph.

During the spring, summer and fall vacation periods, both parks are open daily, offering a cool break from theme park fun. Admission tickets can be purchased at each park or folded into Disney's Magic Your Way ticket with the Water Park Fun & More add-on option.

Located near Downtown Disney West Side, the 61-acre Typhoon Lagoon includes several major features, including Crush 'n' Gusher, the first-ever water coaster thrill ride attraction in Central Florida; a man-made watershed mountain with eight twisting-and-turning water slides and roaring streams; a two-and-one-half-acre wave-making lagoon with surfing-size waves, and a 362,000-gallon saltwater pool, Shark Reef, where snorkelers swim fin-to-fin with exotic marine life including butterfly fish, French angels, tangs, groupers and even nurse sharks.

The park also features a water playground for children, sunny beaches and lazy streams surrounding a 95-foot mountain, a shop that provides necessary underwater equipment for Shark Reef (including wet suits, masks and snorkels), changing areas, lockers, showers, a picnic area and two restaurants which serve up everything from specialty sandwiches and salads to cookies and ice cream in waffle cones.

Meantime, while the 66-acre Blizzard Beach has all the look of a northern ski resort, it is in fact strictly tropical -- and the ice is limited to the soft drinks. The most eye-catching attractions can be found on the slopes of Mt. Gushmore, the 90-foot snow-capped mountain that is home to Downhill Double Dipper, the only side-by-side racing water slides that stand 50 feet high and 200 feet long. Guests will travel up to 25 mph, twisting and turning before shooting out through a curtain of water.

Mt. Gushmore also features slalom courses, toboggan and water sled runs and the awesome, 120-foot-high Summit Plummet -- the nation's tallest, fastest free-fall speed slide, visible from almost anywhere in the park. From Summit Plummet's "ski jump" tower, it's a breathtaking high-speed 55 mph plunge straight down to a splash landing at the base of the mountain.

Next to Summit Plummet is the tall but less steep Slush Gusher, a speed slide that drops guests through a snow-banked mountain gully. Mt. Gushmore's other attractions include Teamboat Springs, the world's longest family white-water raft ride takes six-passenger rafts down a twisting 1,200-foot series of rushing water falls; Toboggan Racer, an 8-lane water slide that sends guests racing over exhilarating dips as they descend the "snowy" slope, and more.

The sandy beach below Mt. Gushmore offers a large wave pool, a lazy river, two snack bars, a polar pub lodge, and a pre-teen and children's play area.

The Village at the Blizzard Beach entrance houses guest services such as a tube pick-up area, towel rentals, lockers, first aid, merchandise and a restaurant.

For more information about Disney's Blizzard Beach and Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water parks, guests may call 407/824-4321 or visit disneyworld.com. (Source: Press Release, 07/02/07)

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Beloved children's musician and Grammy Award winner Dan Zanes and Friends will be part of the lineup that gets kids bopping and singing when Playhouse Disney in Concert returns during Little Ones Travel Time beginning in late August -- after the busy summer vacation season -- at Walt Disney World Resort.

The Doodlebops and Johnny and the Sprites are also part of the concert series featuring a total of eight acts during Little Ones Travel Time Aug. 26-Oct. 28, 2007. The concerts will be presented each Thursday through Sunday during the expanded nine-week travel season.

Created for young families traveling to Disney with preschoolers and toddlers, Little Ones Travel Time also offers targeted on-line planning tools and other services.
