Hi Everyone,

Last week Angela asked about finding coupons in specific
areas of Florida like Madeira Beach and Clearwater.

Beth, our travel agent, writes:

"John, re: the person that wrote you the comment below, you
might also suggest that they look for the Entertainment book
that applies to that area... The books continue to drop in
price as long as the company has them (until the next
edition comes out), so if you use it just one time it's a
savings in most cases."

There is one available for each of these areas in Florida:

Ft. Lauderdale/W. Palm Beach
Ft. Myers/Naples
Gainesville
Jacksonville
Miami/Florida Keys
Orlando
Pensacola
Sarasota
Space Coast/Brevard County
St. Petersburg/Clearwater
Tampa Book

For a limited time, get $10.00 off! For details, click here.

Beth, our travel agent, writes:

"John, I thought you'd find this note from USAirways
interesting. It went out to all their frequent flyers who
have provided email addresses:

'As a thank you for continuing to support US Airways, we are
pleased to offer you a special bonus for tickets purchased
between now and January 30, 2005.

Members will earn 40,000 bonus miles for roundtrip travel in
Envoy Class to Europe; 10,000 bonus miles for roundtrip
travel in any class of service to the Caribbean or Latin
America; and double miles on everything else for roundtrip
travel between now and December 31, 2005.'

If you are not already a member of Dividend Miles, enroll
here."

Beth continues:

"I agree that they are looking somewhat more stable now
since the government has rushed - again - to their rescue,
but I still don't see this airline living the long and happy
life that they seem to want to suggest. I hope I'm wrong
because I think having them flying is good for the industry
as a whole, but I would still be very hesitant to purchase
tickets with them for flights in the distant future. Should
be OK to buy for spring and summer, though - and if you have
any intention of buying those tickets this month then it
makes sense to register and get the bonus miles (in case
they are still flying when you're gotten enough miles for a
free ticket!)

And while we're on the subject of airlines, Beth writes:

"I have been bombarded recently with questions about what
airlines are "safe" to book with respect to them going out
of business. I don't have any crystal ball that will give
me a definitive answer about that, nor does anyone else, so
this is just a best guess, but a friend of mine that flies
for FedEx and his pilot buddies recently went skiing and
they seem to agree with my opinion that:

* Delta is in very bad shape. That doesn't mean they are
going to fold tomorrow, but they are probably the next in
line to go. They narrowly avoided a strike several months
ago when the pilots agreed to a big pay cut, and there is
talk of trying a new fee structure this month and easing
some penalties and rules that may make Delta a little more
competitive with other carriers - but all this is probably
only going to drag the death out a little longer. We are
still booking Delta here, and we still feel that it's
reasonably safe for another 4 or maybe 6 months. You
probably don't want to be booking Delta flights for your
Thanksgiving or Christmas trips just yet, though. See what
happens.

* United... They're OK right now, but they codeshare with
USAirways. I can't imagine that if they suddenly lose a big
chunk of their routes because USAirways folds that they
won't then start having big problems. I personally think
that this time next year we're going to be wondering about
United, but It *should* be OK for awhile.

* I haven't heard any rumors about Northwest or Continental.
They have close ties to each other (codeshare), so unless
one of them starts looking iffy then they should be OK to
book for now. No rumors about American West, AirTran, ATA,
Alaska, Spirit, or any of the others in that "middle of the
road" category right now, either.

* Southwest is as solid as an airline can get at this point.
We all agree you can book it without hesitation as of right
now. JetBlue is also solid for now as far as we can tell...

Every once in awhile a new little low-cost carrier pops up
somewhere, lives for awhile, then dies. It's very hard to
last for more than 12-24 months these days (if that). If you
are tempted to purchase tickets on one of these new little
start ups and you're flying really soon that's probably OK,
but if you're going to fly several months from now then
check to be sure that the people behind the company have
VERY deep pockets!"

Scott, one of our members who signed up for the Affordable
Disney holiday trip at Animal Kingdom Lodge, sent this
letter to Beth, our travel agent:

"Dear Beth,

Where to begin?!?! Vacations are supposed to be FUN!!!
However, I can say for myself that most of my vacations
(particularly where we were going some place new) were much
more stressful than vacations should be! Where to stay,
where to go or where not to go, park tickets or passes ;-),
where to eat, how to save money, booking character
breakfasts 3 months ahead of time, taxi or bus?,
transportation to and from the airport... The list is
endless.

I am a real estate developer. I have an MBA and a Law
degree. Research, planning, project management, negotiating
and crisis management are part of my daily environment. When
beginning to think about a vacation, I don't want to have to
do research, planning, project management, negotiating and
crisis management. Vacations are supposed to be FUN!!!!

Thank God I found you!!! From our first email encounter,
your insight, understanding, contacts, thoughtfulness,
research, planning etc. made our Disney vacation decisions
so simple! At your suggestion, we stayed at the Animal
Kingdom Lodge 5 days, 4 nights the first week of December
2004. We covered three different parks plus downtown Disney,
enjoyed the best accommodations available (at a really great
price), saved a lot of money, and had a vacation that was
practically stress-free. And I have two children, a 19 month
old and a 3 year old! Now that’s saying something!

From figuring out whether it made sense to pre pay for
lunch/dinner vouchers, to advising us about making
reservations for character breakfast 90 days in advance, to
making sure we had a crib in our room, to arranging
transportation to and from the airport (you even made sure
he even had car seats for my kids!), to being prepared for
the one day the temperature dropped below 70 degrees, to
renting strollers at the parks and everything in between,
you were AWESOME. It is the sum total of all of the little
things that makes a trip memorable and enjoyable. You helped
make this vacation one to remember!

We arrived at the airport in Orlando with a car service
waiting. As we talked to our driver during the ride to
Animal Kingdom Lodge, he discovered that I was into real
estate and elected (at no additional cost) to take us on a
tour of Celebration. (Celebration is a small city [developed
by Disney] and a residential master planning marvel and a
must see in the real estate development world.) I was
thrilled.

A few minutes later we arrived at the AKL with our two
exhausted toddlers! We walk into our room and over to the
balcony and what do we see? Three giraffes, three ankole
steer, an ostrich, two vultures, and several other wild
animals right below our balcony!!!!! My girls were overjoyed
and cheered with delight! I thought to myself, "It’s going
to be a great vacation!"

I must admit that there were a few times when I felt
stressed as I stood at the entry to the character breakfasts
and listened to the greeter explain to ten different mommies
and daddies (and their screaming kids) why they couldn't get
in to the Princess Character Breakfast because they didn't
make reservations THREE MONTHS in advance! I felt stressed
for THEM and quietly thanked you (Beth) as I thought how
incredibly disappointed my daughters would have been if we
couldn't get in because Daddy didn't plan in advance. Whew!

I also felt a pang of stress hit me when I heard several
other families complain about their accommodations, being
far away from the action and overpaying on top of it...
again I quietly thanked you (Beth) for your insight! What a
difference your help made! We couldn't have selected better
accommodations!...

In my line of business, legal disclaimers are a regular
thing. I think Disney needs one as follows:

WARNING: Planning a trip to our Disney hotels and theme
parks may be extremely stressful and disappointing unless
you FIRST contact Beth, [AffordableDisney's travel agent]!

Again Beth, I don't know how to thank you for all of your
help. We will certainly be planning another trip to Disney
next year. I will contact you in the spring to begin
planning our second annual Disney trip! And I will start
spreading the word about your wonderful services! I might
even start a Beth fan club!"

Now you know why we recommend Beth to our members!

Affordable Disney has group space blocked on the 3-night
Disney Wonder cruise sailing DECEMBER 8, 2005. Regardless of
the cabin category booked, participants will get $50.00 off
the normal cabin price and a Passporter Guide to the Disney

Lyn writes:

"Is there any way to tell far enough in advance if it's
going to be Pop Warner week in Disney World? We recently
went December 3-11 and the crowds were insane! You couldn't
move in the parks - or the stores in Downtown Disney. It was
like going in July only the weather was better. We
definitely do not want to repeat that. We like going during
the holidays because the crowds are usually lighter and the
decorations are fabulous! Thanks so much for all your work."

From what I can find, it looks like the championship games
take place around December 11. So you would have to stay
clear of WDW that week to avoid the largest crowds. You can
find their calendar here.

Glad to be of service.

Angela writes:

"Thanks for everything. I have printed out a ton of coupons. I
was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to find
coupons. I have been searching for restaurant coupons for the 2nd
portion of my trip. I have been looking in the Seminole area,
Madeira Beach, Clearwater, Treasure Island, Indian Rocks, pretty
much down that stretch. I can't believe Restaurants.com has no
coupons for those areas."

I am constantly on the hunt for coupons for my customers. If we
don't have it on our site, it may only be available for pick up
in person. When you get there, check out stores like Seven Eleven
for coupon books with coupons for the local area.

Hi Everyone,

This note from Shellie brings up an important tip about
buying an Annual Pass before the next price increase:

"Hi John, we would appreciate your advice. Would it be
better to buy annual passes [now] or next year? We live in
Connecticut and are going to Disney four times next year.
Can’t wait."

Disney raised their annual passes March, 2004. I expect them
to raise them again before March, 2005. Buy soon. Get the
voucher kind so you can activate them when you get to WDW.
See "Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation"
for details.

Hi Everyone,

As many of you know, Donna and I are supporters of the Make-
A-Wish Foundation®. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of
children who are facing life-threatening medical conditions.
The wish of many of these children is to visit Walt Disney
World.

We made our last contribution in December, 2004. Make-A-Wish
writes:

"Few things are more exciting than a child's wishes and
dreams. Together we make these wishes come true for children
who face life's greatest challenges. Thank you for your
donation, which is helping make wishes come true today. The
need for support is urgent, and you have made a difference."

Not only we, but all of you, have made a difference! Donna
and I will continue to offer our support to this wonderful
organization in 2005.

Now... Lean back, prop up your feet, and take a Disney break!

Hi Everyone,

Beth, our travel agent, writes:

"Everyone is excited about the new Disney Magical Express
providing free transportation between the Orlando airport
and Disney resorts, but those who were really looking
forward to doing a grocery stop on the way in might be
wondering how to accomplish BOTH the free ride and the
groceries.

WE GO SHOP
will buy the brands you want at the store you want and you
pay the store prices. They just charge a shopping and
delivery fee of $15. The branch owners of WeGoShop.com in
the Disney area allow for a 50% off discount for first time
users if they are local residents.

GOODINGS
is a local grocery with several locations in the Orlando
area. They carry a very high quality of meats, bakery items,
etc., but their prices reflect the fact that this isn't a
huge chain. While the delivery fee is only $10, they have a
$50 minimum order and they do the shopping in their own
store so you'll pay more for most items than you would at,
say, Publix or WinnDixie. (You can also order online.)

NET GROCER
has been around for several years and there are many people
posting on the Disney fan boards that have used it with
great success. The only objection I have with them is that
they aren't local. They ship from the northeast, so you
can't get anything perishable, and your delivery comes by
FedEx to the resort so your at the mercy of the shipping
process. Shipping rates are based on the grocery total and
start at $5.99."

You can order frozen, pre-packaged meals from A La Zing
delivered to your hotel. Just heat and serve! They offer a
wide variety of dinners ranging from hearty home-cooked fare
to elegant, gourmet dining. To learn more, click here.

Hi Everyone,

THIS JUST IN... There's a new money saving benefit for
Annual Passholders! Plus...

It's Wave Season!

Beth, our travel agent, writes:

"So shortly after the terrible Tsunami disaster that phrase
seems to take on a whole new meaning, but what it refers to
is the annual cruise sales period. A cruise line's sales in
the first quarter of the year indicate with fairly good
accuracy how well the line and the industry as a whole will
do that year. Not surprisingly, cruise companies bend over
backwards to attract customers with wonderful deals.

So if you're thinking about a cruise in 2005 NOW is the time
to buy! Lines are promising all sorts of things, from
shipboard credits to huge upgrades and more. Watch for
confirmation next week about a special incentive for
Affordable Disney members from DISNEY CRUISE LINE later this
month!" To become a member of our Disney family, click here.

Beth, our travel agent, continues her discussion about free
Disney bus transportation:

"To use the luggage pre-check service you must stop by the
special desk at the hotel between 6AM and 2PM (and at least
2.75 hours before the flight). You will also receive
boarding passes for your flights home, thus eliminating the
need to stand in a check-in line at the airport. You just
go straight to security! This is great for families that
have flights leaving later in the day.

The airlines that participate in baggage pre-check and
boarding passes are American, United (and TED), Delta (and
SONG) and Continental. You can't check-in for a flight more
than 12 hours prior to the flight time. If you're not using
one of these airlines then you can still get the free trip
back, but can't use the baggage pre-check and boarding pass
service.

* You CAN do a one-way transfer.

* You CAN add the return trip once you're at the resort (if
you didn't have it already)

* You CAN use the transportation even if you aren't on one
of the airlines listed. You just won't be able to pre-check
your bags and get boarding passes for the return portion.
You'll have to stand in line at the airport like you always
have.

* Gratuities for the bellmen delivering the luggage on
arrival are taken care of. If you use bell services for
departure, though, you do need to tip them.

* You CAN add the service to reservations that were made
prior to January 2. (Email me if I did your reservations.)

* You CAN use the remote check-in process without using the
bus transportation if you want to.

* You CAN use the return transportation service for
international flights, but not the remote check-in service.

* You CAN'T book this service at the airport. It must be
added at least 10 days prior to arrival day.

* You CAN'T have just your luggage transported.

* You CAN'T use the transfers to go to any non-Disney hotel
(including Swan/Dolphin).

* You CAN'T use the return check-in service unless you're a
Disney resort guest (must show room key).

The airport check-in service is operated by a TSA-approved
company (not Disney) and all the usual rules apply. Everyone
needs to come to the desk to check in and passports and/or
photo ID are needed for everyone. If you lock your bags they
may have to break the lock at the airport to look inside
unless you use the new TSA-approved locks that they can get
into.

To reserve your transportation space you must provide your
Disney room/package reservation number (unless the
transportation is booked at the same time), the airline and
flight #s, the city of origin for the flight coming into
Orlando, and the destination city for your departing flight.
Again, you can't add this until after January 2, and it is
only for reservations starting May 5, 2005 or later.

Buses will make 3-4 stops, so it's not necessarily a real
time-saver; and they will not stop at a grocery store like
the private drivers. Still, to save $100 or so, it's going
to be worth it for most folks.

The service will run 24/7 and they will be tracking flights
so even if you arrive late they will wait for you and ensure
that you get to the hotel. If you miss your incoming flight
for some reason, but your bags make it, they will hold the
bags at the airport until you physically arrive in Orlando.
If you get to your room and one or more of your bags doesn't
show up, then you contact the Magical Express deck at your
resort and they will assist. If you check your bags at the
hotel and then fail to appear at the airport for the flight,
federal regulations require that your baggage be pulled off
the plane. This can cause delays and everyone on the plane
will hate you."

NEWS FROM AROUND THE "WORLD"

"Delta Air Lines Inc. on Wednesday announced it is cutting
domestic fares by up to 50 percent and scrapped its

as Southwest Airlines Co..." (Source: Orlando Sentinel,

Following Disney's and Universal's recent price increases,
SeaWorld and Busch Gardens raised their prices Monday,
January 3. A single day ticket at SeaWorld now costs $59.75
+ tax or about 11 percent more than 2004's price! Busch
Gardens had a slow 2004 so they have only raised their price
to $55.95. (We sent out a notice in our blog on Saturday
notifying subscribers to buy their tickets before the price
increase.)

The Science of Queuing...

"In geometry, the shortest distance between two points may
be a straight line, but in queuing science that's heresy
when long waits are concerned. If Disney guests saw what a
one- hour wait looked like in a continuous single-file line,
they'd be too demoralized to enter it, research suggests.
That's why the [Indiana] Jones ride [at Disneyland,
California] repeatedly cuts back and forth, and turns around
bends and corners to prevent guests from ever spotting the
front.

The ride adroitly manages expectations as well, a basic
concept in the science of queuing. By posting estimated wait
times along the way, Disney helps guests make an informed
decision about joining." (Source: latimes.com, 12/29/04) For

INFO ON FREE DISNEY BUS TRANSPORTATION

Beth, our travel agent, writes: "I've had a few questions on
this, so I thought I'd clarify:

As part of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary (which starts
5/5/05) ALL the Disney theme parks are making changes,
additions, etc. which may or may not continue after the 18-
month celebration. One of the changes that WDW is making is
adding a much-needed airport transportation service - FOR
FREE!

If you've ever stayed at a Disney Resort or close by then
you know that none of the Disney hotels and practically none
of the none Disney resorts in the vicinity offer
complimentary airport transportation. For a family of four,
the most cost-efficient choice is a private car and driver
which runs around $100-120 with gratuity, depending on what
hotel you're at. While you do get to stop at a grocery store
on the way in, it's still a lot to pay for transportation.
Nonetheless, it's been an unavoidable expense.

Well, starting 5/5/05, if you're staying at a Disney resort
then you can use the brand new complimentary Magical Express
service. You need to sign up (through your travel agent,
online, or by calling Disney directly) at least 10 days
prior (preferably at least 21 days prior).

*** Special luggage tags must be placed on your bags prior
to boarding your first flight. When you arrive in Orlando
you go straight to the Disney Welcome Center (Level 1, A
side) and you'll be directed to a comfy motorcoach which,
when filled, will whisk you away to your hotel. Your bags
will be collected off the luggage belt by Disney
representatives and will eventually be delivered to your
room. If you are on an international flight and Orlando is
your first US city you will have to claim your bags to go
through customs and then give them back. They will go to the
baggage claim area at that point where the Disney
representative will collect and transport them for you.

For the return trip, you'll get a notice under the door the
day prior telling you what time to meet the bus out front.
It will average 2.5-3 hours prior to your flight time. They
will NOT pick up your luggage from the room. Either haul it
down yourself or call a bellman. (Call bell services early,
because in peak hours you can have a long wait for them.)
