INFO ON FREE DISNEY BUS TRANSPORTATION

Beth, our travel agent, writes: "I've had a few questions on
this, so I thought I'd clarify:

As part of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary (which starts
5/5/05) ALL the Disney theme parks are making changes,
additions, etc. which may or may not continue after the 18-
month celebration. One of the changes that WDW is making is
adding a much-needed airport transportation service - FOR
FREE!

If you've ever stayed at a Disney Resort or close by then
you know that none of the Disney hotels and practically none
of the none Disney resorts in the vicinity offer
complimentary airport transportation. For a family of four,
the most cost-efficient choice is a private car and driver
which runs around $100-120 with gratuity, depending on what
hotel you're at. While you do get to stop at a grocery store
on the way in, it's still a lot to pay for transportation.
Nonetheless, it's been an unavoidable expense.

Well, starting 5/5/05, if you're staying at a Disney resort
then you can use the brand new complimentary Magical Express
service. You need to sign up (through your travel agent,
online, or by calling Disney directly) at least 10 days
prior (preferably at least 21 days prior).

*** You cannot add this service prior to January 2.

*** Special luggage tags must be placed on your bags prior
to boarding your first flight. When you arrive in Orlando
you go straight to the Disney Welcome Center (Level 1, A
side) and you'll be directed to a comfy motorcoach which,
when filled, will whisk you away to your hotel. Your bags
will be collected off the luggage belt by Disney
representatives and will eventually be delivered to your
room. If you are on an international flight and Orlando is
your first US city you will have to claim your bags to go
through customs and then give them back. They will go to the
baggage claim area at that point where the Disney
representative will collect and transport them for you.

For the return trip, you'll get a notice under the door the
day prior telling you what time to meet the bus out front.
It will average 2.5-3 hours prior to your flight time. They
will NOT pick up your luggage from the room. Either haul it
down yourself or call a bellman. (Call bell services early,
because in peak hours you can have a long wait for them.)

To use the luggage pre-check service you must stop by the
special desk at the hotel between 6AM and 2PM (and at least
2.75 hours before the flight). You will also receive
boarding passes for your flights home, thus eliminating the
need to stand in a check-in line at the airport. You just
go straight to security! This is great for families that
have flights leaving later in the day.

The airlines that participate in baggage pre-check and
boarding passes are American, United (and TED), Delta (and
SONG) and Continental. You can't check-in for a flight more
than 12 hours prior to the flight time. If you're not using
one of these airlines then you can still get the free trip
back, but can't use the baggage pre-check and boarding pass
service.

* You CAN do a one-way transfer.

* You CAN add the return trip once you're at the resort (if
you didn't have it already)

* You CAN use the transportation even if you aren't on one
of the airlines listed. You just won't be able to pre-check
your bags and get boarding passes for the return portion.
You'll have to stand in line at the airport like you always
have.

* Gratuities for the bellmen delivering the luggage on
arrival are taken care of. If you use bell services for
departure, though, you do need to tip them.

* You CAN add the service to reservations that were made
prior to January 2. (Email me if I did your reservations.)

* You CAN use the remote check-in process without using the
bus transportation if you want to.

* You CAN use the return transportation service for
international flights, but not the remote check-in service.

* You CAN'T book this service at the airport. It must be
added at least 10 days prior to arrival day.

* You CAN'T have just your luggage transported.

* You CAN'T use the transfers to go to any non-Disney hotel
(including Swan/Dolphin).

* You CAN'T use the return check-in service unless you're a
Disney resort guest (must show room key).

The airport check-in service is operated by a TSA-approved
company (not Disney) and all the usual rules apply. Everyone
needs to come to the desk to check in and passports and/or
photo ID are needed for everyone. If you lock your bags they
may have to break the lock at the airport to look inside
unless you use the new TSA-approved locks that they can get
into.

To reserve your transportation space you must provide your
Disney room/package reservation number (unless the
transportation is booked at the same time), the airline and
flight #s, the city of origin for the flight coming into
Orlando, and the destination city for your departing flight.
Again, you can't add this until after January 2, and it is
only for reservations starting May 5, 2005 or later.

Buses will make 3-4 stops, so it's not necessarily a real
time-saver; and they will not stop at a grocery store like
the private drivers. Still, to save $100 or so, it's going
to be worth it for most folks.

The service will run 24/7 and they will be tracking flights
so even if you arrive late they will wait for you and ensure
that you get to the hotel. If you miss your incoming flight
for some reason, but your bags make it, they will hold the
bags at the airport until you physically arrive in Orlando.
If you get to your room and one or more of your bags doesn't
show up, then you contact the Magical Express deck at your
resort and they will assist. If you check your bags at the
hotel and then fail to appear at the airport for the flight,
federal regulations require that your baggage be pulled off
the plane. This can cause delays and everyone on the plane
will hate you."

NEWS FROM AROUND THE "WORLD"

DISNEY'S RESORT AIRLINE CHECK-IN SERVICE

"Beginning May 5, Disney's Magical Express will allow guests to
check their bags at their hometown airport, bypass baggage claim
at Orlando International Airport (OIA) and board luxury motor
coaches to the Walt Disney World® Resort - as their bags
"magically" appear in their room upon check in...

Disney's Magical Express service makes guests' return to OIA
hassle-free as well. This convenient system lets guests avoid
airport check-in lines by enabling passengers on domestic flights
to check their luggage and receive a boarding pass before
departing their Disney hotel. Guests with flight departures later
in the day no longer have to worry about their luggage after they
check out of their hotel. They can simply check their luggage at
the Resort Airline Check-in Desk and then enjoy the last day of
their stay..."

The Swan and Dolphin hotel, the Downtown Disney resort hotels,
and Shades of Green are not are not participating in Disney's
Magical Express. American Airlines, Continental, Song, Delta,
Ted, and United are currently in the program, but Disney plans
to add others soon. The service may be included with packages
and room-only bookings. Three weeks before arrival, you will
receive all the details and luggage tags to attach before
leaving home.

EXTRA MAGIC HOURS

WDW Resort guests, including those staying at the Swan and
Dolphin hotel and the Hilton at Downtown Disney can spend an
hour in the morning or hours in the evening at the theme
parks during Extra Magic Hours. Guests will need to show
their Key to the World card. Here's the schedule, which is
subject to change:

Sunday - Disney-MGM Studios (evening)
Monday - Epcot (morning)
Tuesday - Disney-MGM Studios (morning); Animal Kingdom (evening)
Wednesday - Magic Kingdom (evening)
Thursday - Epcot (evening)
Friday - Magic Kingdom (morning)
Saturday - Disney's Animal Kingdom (morning)

DISNEYLAND

Starting January 4, those who book their package through the
Walt Disney Travel Company can enjoy the park one hour
before the gates open to the general public. Special
activities include:

* Disney Character Meet & Greet
* Mickey's Toontown Morning Madness Cavalcade (parade)
* Mickey's Toontown Town Hall Meeting (Mickey makes everyone
an Honorary Citizen of Toontown)

You must have a multi-day ticket to enjoy one morning during
your stay.

Amber writes:

"My Mom will be going with us to Walt Disney World, but
doesn't think she can walk it due to her bad knee. She's
wanting to get something from her doctor for a wheelchair.
Do you know what we need at Disney to get one?"

You do not need anything to rent a wheelchair at WDW. But BE
SURE to arrive early at the park to get one before they're
all gone. You can get one at the Disney hotel when you check
in if you want one all the time. Otherwise, see our book for
rental sources that will deliver your wheelchair to you.

Beth, our travel agent, adds:

The Scoop on Wheelchairs and Scooters (ECVs)...

Even people that don't normally use a wheelchair or scooter
may want to use one for their theme park vacation. Let's
face it: all that walking is tough on EVERYONE, and a person
who is mobility- challenged to start with may find that
their inability to move around quickly and easily under
their own power makes for a mighty tough trip!

All Disney theme parks rent wheelchairs at the entrance to
the park. The push style comes in regular and wide and costs
$7 a day, $1 of which will come back to you as a Disney
dollar when you return the chair. You can NOT take the
chairs from park to park, but if you keep your receipt from
the first rental of the day and then present it at the next
park they will not charge you again. The same holds true for
ECVs, and the price is $45 a day ($10 of which is a
refundable deposit).

You can't reserve the chairs and ECVs, though, so if you
change from one park to another and they are all gone at the
second park then you're out of luck. If that's not an
option, then tactic number two would be to get a chair from
your Disney resort. This is, of course, assuming that you're
staying at an onsite Disney resort. They all have a limited
number of chairs available for FREE, and you can keep the
chair your entire length of stay. You don't have to worry
about getting it each day at the parks and you save money -
but you will have to use the chair lift on the buses for
transportation. More importantly, you can't pre- reserve the
chairs at the hotel, either. It's first come, first served.

So if you don't want to bring a chair or scooter from home,
then your final option is to rent one from a local agency.
I've used several and their daily rates run about the same
as Disney's, but you usually get a price break if you keep
it for a whole week. You have to provide your weight in
order to get the chair or scooter best suited for you, and
the company will have it delivered to your hotel for no
charge. It's usually there when you arrive, but even
companies that require you to call on arrival get them there
quickly. Then you just leave it at bell services when you
depart and the company will be by to pick it up. It works
really well, and while you don't save much (if any) money,
at least you have a working chair or ECV for your entire
length of stay.

All Disney rooms have doors wide enough to accommodate a
normal wheelchair and many scooters. If you're using
something extra- wide, you may have trouble not only with
the doors, but also with the lifts on the transportation.
Keep that in mind. All Disney hotels also have handicap-
accessible rooms as well. There's a department that handles
those requests, so they can accommodate most every need,
from roll-in showers to shower stools to raised toilet seats
- whatever you need. If you do need a special room, though,
be sure to reserve well in advance because they are limited
in number.

I'd be happy to provide additional information on wheelchair
or scooter rental, so feel free to send questions."

"Ticket prices at Universal Orlando will go up today for the
third time this year -- by far the largest single-year increase
in the theme park's history.

Before tax, a one-day, one-park adult ticket to either Universal
Studios or Islands of Adventure will go up $5 to $59.75, a 9
percent increase over the old price...

In the price changes that take effect today, Universal increased
the price of every ticket it offers -- including multi-day passes
-- except its most expensive annual pass. Two- and three-day
multiple-park passes increased about 5 percent, while the cost of
a five-day pass went up 25 percent.

Still, even with the increases, Universal's two, three and five-
day tickets will be cheaper than similar tickets at Disney. The
price of a one-park adult ticket at the two resorts will match."

Renea writes:

"Hello John:

We went to Disneyworld in June and in November. There isn't
anything to report about the June trip worth while.

The November trip however was very eventful!

We arrived at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4th. I decided
since it was only myself and my 3 children to stay on airport
property. We stayed at the La Quinta Inn North for only $34.50
including breakfast with my Entertainment rate.

The hotel was "o.k." There were young girls talking on their
phones at midnight outside our door (until they saw my dirty
looks and went down the hall). The room was clean enough and the
breakfast was very good with waffles, fruit, yogurt, breads, and
cereals.

We checked into the La Quinta Inn on Jamaican Court on
International Drive. Stay away from this property at all costs! I
mean this!

We only paid $39.50/night with breakfast but here is what
happened to us:

1. Both properties charged extra $ on my debit card for
incidentals (I was only at the airport property for 10 hours)

2. The second morning I woke up to a man screaming at his
girlfriend and beating her. I called the front desk immediately.
it took a second call down there for a manager to come up!

3. Our bathroom was not cleaned. only dirty towels taken away.
there was a man at the desk complaining that he was there for 7
days and never got his coffee replenished.

4. there were people trying to get into a room with a key that
obviously wasn't the correct one.

5. the security guard and the desk clerk were sleeping at night
watching t.v.

6. I told them to take the charges off my debit card and I would
pay cash. I took the cash out, went to pay and they charged my
card again for 2 nights!

I was terrified to stay here so I walked next door to the embassy
suites and explained my situation. I am a Hilton honors member so
I got a suite for $99/night. the room was o.k., much better then
the L.Q. but not as clean and maintained as it should have been.
It is a nice place with indoor/outdoor pool, hot breakfast in the
a.m. and manager's reception with free drinks for 2 hours every
night.

The good part of our trip was the last. I made reservations at
the Grand Floridian in the Lodge Concierge building where we
always stay (we know everyone there by name). I paid for the 2
nights in advance. the problem is we were in the lodge for 1
night and a lagoon view the second because they were sold out. I
went to the lodge building the night before check in and spoke
with the desk clerk who I know very well. he called the room
assigner and asked if we could stay in the lodge building both
nights.

we arrived on Tuesday a.m. and the concierge staff greeted us as
usual to take us to the lodge building. he brought us to the
golden elevators (these are only accessible to those who are
staying in the main building concierge). I asked him where we
were going and he said they upgraded us for the night!

What a fantastic place! breakfast, snacks at lunch, tea in the
afternoon, hot foods at night with champagne, beer, etc. then at
8:00 they had cordials and fancy deserts. the rooms are gorgeous,
the staff very helpful and the service is great. I couldn't
believe this place.

I went down the next morning to check out and into the lodge
building and they let me keep my free upgrade! I was so happy
after the nightmare we were in before. if your readers have the $
and want a very special treat, stay here!

they were also setting up the gingerbread house (which we watched
the chefs put the gingerbread and icing on the house) and I came
out of the Jacuzzi around midnight and they were starting to put
all the Christmas trees up (even the large one in the lobby).

We always stay at the G.F. and after this experience, we won't
stay anywhere else...

thanks for the newsletter every week. it helps when planning our
trips."

Ahhhh... concierge service! If you got the cash, make a dash for
those gold elevators!

"The huge "Ice" spectacular [at the Gaylord Palms Resort &
Convention Center] is just one of many magical activities
that await visitors to Orlando this holiday season.
Thousands of brightly colored lights depicting holiday
scenes are glowing throughout the city and at the theme
parks....

There are eight "Bistro Gourmet" McDonald’s in Orlando which
serve made to order breakfast, lunch and dinners on real
plates with silverware." These restaurants also have game
rooms and include pastas and gourmet coffees on the menu!

to-film adaptation of the classic Jungle Cruise attraction."

Turtle Talk with Crush at Epcot is wowing visitors! "Your
"Turtle Talk" experience begins as you enter a small theater
filled with low carpeted benches which are facing a 8' by
16' screen... At first, most members of the audience seem to
think that they're watching yet another movie. Until -- that
is -- Crush begins calling on individual members of the
audience..." (Source: JimHillMedia.Com, 12/13/04) For the

"On December 15, the 50th anniversary of his debut as "king
of the wild frontier," the man known to millions of baby-
boomers as legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett will receive
the highest honor Disneyland bestows, when the park unveils
a tribute window to beloved actor Fess Parker...

A Disneyland window is considered the ultimate honor anyone
can receive from "The Happiest Place on Earth" and unlike
other Disneyland window tributes, Parker's salute will also
include an entirely rethemed building facade which pays
tribute to Parker's portrayal of Davy Crockett, along with
his sidekick Georgie Russell, played by the late actor Buddy
Ebsen."

My brother and I both wore Davey Crocket outfits in the
'50's! (Source: Disneyland Resort, 12/13/04)

"Disney's Magic Kingdom was host to 15.2 million guests in
2004, once again making it the world's most-visited theme

Jeffrey writes:

"We went to Disneyworld Aug 20, 2004 - Sept 2, 2004. Managed
to dodge Charley and Frances.

Pleasure Island was still allowing you entry for free (Note
from John: this special is still in effect!). You only
needed to pay if you wanted to go in a club. The price was
only $16.95, which is lower than I remember from past visits
(AND LOWER THAN DISCOUNTERS WERE SELLING THE TICKETS FOR).

I bought my hopper passes from [your ticket agent], and he
gave me a magazine called "Enjoy Florida." I also saw the
magazine on racks at the Belz outlet mall where the
character corner is. In any case, on the inside back cover
of the magazine was a coupon for 20% off Pleasure Island
tickets, good for up to 6 tickets. The expiration was
12/31/04. That means the Pleasure Island clubs could be
visited for $13.56 + taxes.

There was no apparent damage to the theme parks from
charley, and since I left before Frances arrived, I have no
idea what damage it caused to the theme parks (Note from
John: the parks suffered little damage from either storm).
There was a lot of damage visible around Orlando: Billboards
completely wrecked, trees down, lots of roof damage; but the
parks were fine.

We had a great time. the crowds were smaller than I've ever
seen, so we managed to do everything we wanted to do before
the afternoon storms came through each day. we got in the
habit of going at opening to a park, and coming back to the
condo at around 3 pm to enjoy the pool and hang out. I think
the longest line we ever waited in was 30 minutes at any
park, including universal and seaworld. And that only
happened around 1 pm or so when the park was fullest."

Hi Everyone!

Lean back, prop up your feet, and take a Disney break!

--------------------------------

Disney has restructured their ticket prices for 2005! Beth, our
travel agent, sums up the changes:

TICKETS

"OK, the way I understand the new tickets is that the "base"
ticket (called Magic Your Way ticket) offers one park per day -
no hopping. The more days you get on the "base" ticket, the lower
the price per day. If you JUST want multi-day tickets, one park
per day, and it's OK that they expire then you can save, but as
soon as you start adding on park hopping privileges and/or the no
expiration option the price per day (compared to current prices)
does increase - although the more days you get the less
difference there is.

Then you can add on options to that base ticket:

Park Hopper Option: $35. Allows hopping on all days of your base
ticket no matter how many days on the ticket.

Magic Plus Pack: $45. Allows 2-5 visits to the water parks,
Disney Quest, PI, or WWoS. The longer your base ticket is, the
more visits you get.

No Expiration Option: $10 to $55. Tickets expire after 14 days
from first use unless you buy this option. The more days on your
ticket, the more it costs to make it a non-expiring ticket.

Magic Your Way Premium: Add $80 to base ticket price. This is the
equivalent of an ultimate park hopper (but if they allow you to
add the no expiration option then it would be more like buying a
premium annual pass that doesn't expire at the end of 12 months,
but DOES have a limited number of days).

Advance Purchase Discount: Varies. You get a discount if you buy
a 5-day or longer ticket with at least a hopper option or plus
pack option on it.

You canNOT use an extra day on your ticket to go to another park
when you've already visited a park earlier in the day. In other
words, if you use a ticket day on Monday morning to go to the
Magic Kingdom you are not allowed to use a second day on the
ticket to go to Epcot. They CAN, however, use multiple "plus
pack" options on the same day, up to the number of admissions on
the ticket.

For a comparison chart of the new vs the old prices, see:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/custom/tourism/orl-asec-
disneygraphic120304,1,2803319.graphic?coll=orl-home-promo (If the
address is broken into more than one line, copy and paste all
lines.)

If you have HOPPER TICKETS OR ANNUAL PASSES you can use
them like you always have. They will continue to honor them, or
you can upgrade to the new options and you will get credit for
the value of your existing ticket. I'm not sure yet, though, what
value will be placed on the unused days (price you paid or
current value).

FLORIDA RESIDENTS have some new options, too. They can pick
between 10% off a 1-day ticket or add the "hopper" option for
free. If they purchase a ticket good for 2 days or more, they get
one extra day free, and they CAN add on the hopper option, plus
option, and/or no expiration option if desired. The 3-day ticket
(that include one day free) is good for six months, and all
others are good 14 days from first use. Note that advance
purchase discounts do NOT apply on the "free day" offer.

ANNUAL PASSES will still be available. There will be Florida
resident annual and resident seasonal passes, as well as an
annual pass for non-residents.

PACKAGES

You no longer need a 3-night minimum stay, and you are no longer
forced to get a length-of-stay ultimate hopper. Instead, you
choose the resort and the number of nights and the package comes
with the BASE ticket (theme parks only) in as many days length as
you want. You CAN upgrade the tickets with the above options, but
if you want the PREMIUM option then you have to do it as a
length-of stay ticket.

Disney’s Magic Your Way Package

Includes accommodations (Disney owned and operated resort hotels,
the Swan and Dolphin, Downtown Disney hotels, Disney Good
Neighbor hotels); Magic Your Way base tickets for everyone in
your party, and Disney baggage tags. Packages start at $329 per
adult; $198 per Junior (ages 10-17); $158 per child (ages 3-9).
There is a 3-night minimum. Everyone in the room has to take the
same package.

Disney's Magic Your Way Premium Package

It's like the old Gold/Platinum package... Premium hopper
tickets, three meals a day, Cirque tickets, unlimited recreation,
unlimited tours, children's recreation centers. It's around
$150-170 per adult per night, $107-123 per child ages 3-9. The
longer you stay, the lower the price per day. If you don't want
the tickets to expire then you have to add the no expiration
upgrade.

Disney’s Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining

The meal plan will ONLY be available to people that buy a Magic
Your Way + Dining package. You get one counter service voucher,
one table service voucher, and one snack per day. Everyone on the
reservation ages 3+ must take the plan and you must take it for
all days of the package. It works out to $35 a day for adults and
$10 per day for ages 3-9. You get two meals and a snack.

Given that a table service meal per day is included, I find this
to be a phenomenal price! It says it's good for over 100
restaurants, including the premium ones in Epcot, MGM, etc.
(table service). I can spend over $50 without effort at a table
service place for dinner. This dining option alone may make it
WELL worth getting a package!!

You can use TWO table service credits to get dinner at one of the
premium restaurants or at a dinner show. You can use ONE table
service credit to get a character meal.

According to Disney's description, meals include:

* One table service meal: appetizer, entrée, dessert, non-
alcoholic beverage and gratuity/service charge

* One counter service meal: entrée and non-alcoholic beverage, or
full combo meal: entrée, side dish and non-alcoholic beverage

* One snack: snack-cart ice cream, box of popcorn, or medium soft
drink at select counter-service and snack-cart locations

CHANGES TO CURRENT BOOKINGS
Any 2005 package booking can be converted to the new offerings
starting January 2. There is no change fee if done at least 45
days prior to arrival. Additionally, if the change results in a
price difference of less than $50, the change can be made without
a fee 44 days or fewer prior to arrival as well. If the price
change is MORE than $50, though, the change fee still applies.

PRINCE & PRINCESS PLAN
This wonderful add-on is history. If you already bought it then
it will be honored, but they will not be selling it in 2005.

PREFERRED FIREWORKS VIEWING
This is no longer a perk of any of the new packages, but it will
be honored for existing packages.

CRUISE LINE
Land/sea packages will now include the PREMIUM version of the
ticket (hopper abilities, plus features) and it will be a length
of stay ticket. They canNOT add on the no expiration option. I'm
not sure if they can add on the dining option or not.

So that's what I have from all of this so far. I haven't seen
anything at all about room-only options; however, our sales rep
assured me that it would still be an option. I assume that you
will just book the room and then select your tickets, but if
there is no room-only promotion and you don't have an annual or
resident pass then I can't see why you'd choose the room-only
over the package at this point... Unless you just wanted the less
stringent payment and cancellation policies.

EXTRA MAGIC HOURS
In addition to being able to go into designated parks an hour
earlier than everyone else, WDW Resort guests will also be able
to stay three hours later in the evening. Parks opening early and
staying open later will rotate, but each park will open early and
stay open late at least once a week."

We'll add more details to the above information as soon as Disney
fills in the blanks.
