Just a short comment about the election results Tuesday:
I feel like I'm in mourning for our country.
Father had this to say Tuesday morning at Mass:
The gospel was the one where Jesus says we must pick up our cross and follow Him. Father said that the disappointment we were feeling about the election is a cross to bear and that we must accept it and trust that God will take care of us. We are never alone on the cross. Jesus is right there with us.
He read a blog from a Christian writer who asked:
"How many kings have we seen come and go over the centuries? How many mansions have we seen reduced to nothing? Let others lose sleep over the election. We Christians have only to pray and trust in the Lord."
So, this is what I have learned from this election...
That half of our country rejects God's teachings and they hold the most electoral votes. The Republican party as we know it is probably finished. They will have to transform themselves into something more agreeable to the left. That will NOT work. Eventually - probably not in our lifetime - the country will rise up and once again embrace Christian values and the ideas of our Founding Fathers. In the meantime, we must continue to pray for President Obama and our country and trust that God will take care of those who love Him.
As the psalm says:
"Why groan within me, my soul? I will still trust in the Lord."
And Job encourages us to rejoice in suffering:
"The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD."
May the peace of Lord be always with you.
