Beth, our travel agent, writes:

"I just finished the first of two webinars on the new Celebrity Solstice, debuting next month in Ft. Lauderdale. This is probably as good a time as any to let readers know about all the new developments in cruising since this type of vacation offers one of the best values available today. Cruises are also a fabulous family vacation opportunity, so if you've been to see The Mouse a few times you might be looking for a change of pace.

The Solstice is the first new ship for Celebrity in six years. There will be four ships in this new class, the next one being the Equinox due out next summer. These ships offer ten dining venues, real grass growing on the top deck (perfect for doing picnic lunches), and a whopping 85% of the cabins have balconies. Standard cabins are larger than most, and many have sofa and trundle beds to accommodate extra people in the cabin. Interestingly, during the design phase of these ships, the company consulted five women including a frequent cruiser, a travel agent, and someone who'd never cruised before to see what they were interested in. The result was some innovations that someone should have done years ago, like more storage space for luggage under the beds, a ledge in the shower for easier leg shaving, and fog-free mirrors. Connecting cabins also have a cool way of connecting both the rooms and the balconies that allows for more privacy as well as some flexibility. Celebrity is very comparable to Princess, a definite step up from Royal Caribbean and Carnival.

And speaking of Princess, the Ruby Princess also debuts next month. In fact, I'll be attending the 2-night 'cruise to nowhere' for the naming ceremony in about 10 days. (Can't wait!) One of the neat things about Princess ships is that, if you like one then you'll probably like them all. While the new classes of ships each have many new innovations, the line works hard to incorporate similarities so that those familiar with the line always feel right at home and can easily learn the layout of the ship. Princess does a fabulous job with their children's facilities as well as the teen centers, and their cabins and balconies have always seemed particularly spacious to me - especially if you book one of the numerous (and usually very affordable) minisuites. The Ruby Princess features Movies Under the Stars, a multitude of dining options, and the popular piazza dining, shopping and entertainment area in the atrium.

There's one ship, though, that I simply HAVE to bring up because if you love to cruise and think bigger is always better the Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas is sure to please. In fact, it will give 'shock and awe' a whole new meaning. When she debuts in November 2009 she will be the largest passenger ship afloat, carrying 5,400 passengers. Announced just last week, the ship's Youth Zone is one of six 'neighborhoods' aboard and as far as I'm concerned it's high time someone FINALLY offered a full-blown nursery so parents with infants can really relax. (Disney ships have them, but the hours are very limited.) Aside from really cool (and very extensive) child and teen areas, the ship will have TWO flow riders (those surfing things you've seen on TV) as well as rock climbing, ice skating, zip lining and more. The atrium cabins with French windows that Voyager and Freedom class ships have will now boast full-fledged balconies overlooking the promenade which is lined with real trees and open to the sky above (so if it rains outside it will also rain INSIDE the ship). As fun and entertaining as these jumbo ships are for adults, if you have teens or 'tweens in your group they just can't be beat - and most of my clients with kids in that age group would agree with me that the ships are WAY better for those kids than Disney ships.

And yes, Disney is building new ships, too. We just don't have the details yet. Plenty of details out on the ones mentioned and others, though. For those that don't know, I started my travel career as a chief purser many, many moons ago and am a total cruise-aholic. I'm also a certified cruise specialist, so if Disney isn't working out for you - or you just need a change - let me know. I'd love to help you plan a great cruise vacation, and there are plenty of deals to be had these days!"

Downtown Disney Becomes Lively Outdoor Gallery During Festival of the Masters, Nov. 7-9

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The lakeside setting of Downtown Disney becomes the backdrop for more than 150 artisans displaying original creations during the 33rd annual Festival of the Masters at Walt Disney World Resort, Nov. 7-9, 2008. Festival of the Masters, presented by Sharpie®, is a nationally recognized art show which is ranked among the country’s best outdoor art festivals each year.

To qualify for Festival of the Masters, artists must have earned a primary award in a juried art festival within the last three years. Prospective exhibitors submit award verification and samples of their art to a jury of art experts who select the participants. This process ensures that visitors to the festival will be treated to one of the finest collections of art in the nation.

Sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, glass, and digital art are just some of the art genres showcased at this year’s event. Street painters from the Florida Chalk Artists Association will decorate some 6,000 square feet of sidewalk with unique drawings. Youngsters can take in the fun with live music, face painting and interactive kid’s zones.

House of Blues will celebrate the creative spirit of folk art during the 10th annual "Where the Art Meets the Soul" Folk Art Festival at Downtown Disney West Side.

To add an international flair to the festival, Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant will host the works of three artists associated with the Cherrylane Fine Arts Gallery in Delgany, County Wicklow, Ireland.

Festival hours are 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. each day of the festival. Admission is complimentary. For more information about Festival of the Masters, contact 407/824-4321 or visit www.disneyworld.com/artfestival. (Source: Press Release, 10/27/08)

The Polar Express Experience Comes To Seaworld For The Holidays

Orlando, Fla. - Jump aboard The Polar Express Experience when it rolls into SeaWorld this holiday season beginning Nov. 14, 2008 and continuing through Jan. 4, 2009. SeaWorld’s Wild Arctic transforms into the fabled Santa Town taking guests on a magical trip to the North Pole.

The Polar Express Experience is based on the Warner Bros. Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment film, inspired by the beloved Caldecott Medal-winning children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. The Polar Express Experience is a heart-warming journey, where families share in the excitement and wonder of a truly unforgettable train ride. This enchanting experience will surround guests with the true spirit of the season through laughs, exciting thrills and special animal encounters.

The adventure unfolds on a Christmas Eve night with a young boy lying awake, eagerly listening for the sound of Santa’s ringing sleigh bells. As the boy gazes out his frosted bedroom window, a soft mist appears and just in that very moment, a roaring black train rumbles to a halt in front of the boy’s house. Filled with excitement and awe, the boy races out his front door, dashes across the freshly fallen snow and climbs aboard The Polar Express.

As the train’s whistle blows, guests embark on the same adventure as they board The Polar Express Experience to the North Pole. Classic scenes from the movie are recreated in a multi-sensory experience immersing passengers in special lighting, scent, sound and motion effects. Upon arrival guests find themselves within a winter wonderland surrounded by holiday cheer, graceful beluga whales, powerful polar bears and giant walruses. They will delight in the smell of Christmas cookies filling the air and bright lights glistening on a festive towering tree as families greet Santa and share in a magical moment.

Across the way, just as the winter air cools and the evening stars appear, families can join Shamu for a magnificent holiday show: "Shamu Christmas ... Miracles." This very special showing runs nightly beginning Nov. 12 and continues through Dec. 30, 2008. Shamu Stadium will illuminate with bright lights and glowing candles as Christmas carols adored and Shamu splashes to celebrate the holiday season.

While strolling around SeaWorld’s lake or through The Waterfront’s holiday-themed array of gift shops and restaurants, families can wander along a winter scene as glistening snow flurries fill the air. Guests can also experience "Christmastide" - a spectacular holiday fountain show where jewels of water and light adorn the night and dance to the merry musical sounds of Christmas. "Christmastide" begins Nov. 12 and runs through Dec. 25, 2008.

Igniting the spirit of the season is the "Makahiki Christmas Luau," a South Seas-style festive celebration including succulent island cuisine keeping with the ancient holiday traditions of the Pacific Islands. Joyful songs of the season are reinterpreted with Polynesian rhythms, music and dance during this festive holiday celebration. "Makahiki Christmas Luau" begins Nov. 12, 2008 and continues through Jan. 4, 2009 (except Dec. 25). Park admission is not required. Prices are $46.00 plus tax for adults and $29.00 plus tax for children (ages 3-9)

Families can ring in the New Year at SeaWorld on Dec. 31 with a musical extravaganza including the best in pop, Latin and swing music. At the stroke of midnight, the evening sky will shine even brighter with a vibrant fireworks show to celebrate the festivities.

For Guest information, call 1 (888) 800-5447 or visit SeaWorld.com. (Source: Press Release, 10/24/08)

Cynthia writes:

"Hi John,

On our recent trip to the 'World,' we were able to meet the guys of Four for a Dollar that sing prior to the Beauty and the Beast show at Disney Studios. We had read that they were leaving Disney, and wanted to express our appreciation of their music and our disappointment that they'd no longer be part of our family vacations. Their music is a highlight of our Disney trips as we've enjoyed their too-short performances for the past several years. When I stated that we were sorry to see them go, they expressed that they were sorry to leave and really loved performing there. It was evident that they aren't leaving because they want to, and that this is a move on Disney's part.

Is there anything we can do to reverse Disney's decision to send them packing? Their sound is so unique, and we hate to see such a talent lost from WDW.

We look forward to any advice you can give. Thanks again for your newsletter; we enjoy every edition and have utilized much of the great info you provide."

The same thing happened when Nova Era left Epcot. They were forced out and now we buy their CDs and catch them when we can when they play in Orlando. The best you can do is contact the manager of the Disney Studios and voice your opinion:

Alain writes:

"I was wondering if there are safes in all the resort rooms, and if so, are they free? I will be staying at the All-Stars and would like to leave a significant amount of cash in my room while I go to the parks..."

>> Yes and they are free.

"I was wondering if the different fireworks shows at WDW (ie. Illuminations, Wishes, etc.) provide an equal experience when viewed from outside the parks. For example, from a resort beach or a restaurant. Or do these fireworks feature synchronized music that would be missed if watching from outside the parks?"

>> Nothing compares to being close to the action. And the music will be greatly missed.

"Can one ask any merchandise store at WDW to send our purchases to our resort instead of carrying them all day? If so, is it free? Are there any restrictions?"

>> They will send it to your resort for free. Buying merchandise on your last day may not get to your room before you leave. So take those items back to your room with you.

"How can I find out what movie will be shown as part of "Disney Movie Under the Stars" at Chip n Dale's campfire on December 12th? Is there a telephone number I can call to find out? Also, what time does this activity end?"

>> Movie starts 8 PM in summer and 7 PM in winter. The activity ends when the movie ends.

Disney only publishes the current schedule. You can call the resort at (407) 824-2742 and see if they know yet. Once you're there you'll find the movie schedule posted at the comfort stations.

"Does it cost an admission to get into Downtown Disney to shop and dine?"

>> There is no admission charge to anyone at Downtown Disney.

Funosaurus! T-Rex at Downtown Disney Takes Guests
On a Dining Adventure to a Prehistoric Time

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Walt Disney World guests can go on an adventure back in time to dine among the dinosaurs as T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure, A Place to Eat, Shop, Explore and Discover opens it doors at Downtown Disney. Following an October launch, November marks the first full month of operation.

T-Rex, developed by Schussler Creative, Inc., and operated by Landry’s Restaurants, Inc., features dining and retail in a 30,000-square-foot, 600-seat family-friendly interactive prehistoric environment. The concept is built around water, fire and ice: Guests are greeted with life-size animatronic dinosaurs among cascading waterfalls, bubbling geysers, a fossil dig site and much more.

Schussler Creative Chairman Steve Schussler, the founder of Rainforest Café and the T-Rex restaurant, depicts the experience as "edutainment," noting that this "treat for all five senses" includes artifacts such as fossils - all carefully labeled - that are hundreds of millions of years old, carefully crafted animatronic dinosaurs, and even a meteorite found in Argentina. A full-size skeleton replica of Argentinosaurus, one of the largest of the dinosaurs and copied from a museum specimen about 125 feet in length, looms over the entrance, joined by a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton.

The theme carries over to the menu, which features items with names such as Caesarsaurus (Caesar salad), Raptor Ribs (Asian BBQ ribs), Pterodactyl Wings (Buffalo chicken wings), Triassic Tortellini (tri-colored cheese tortellini) and Gigantosaurus Burger (think really big hamburger!).

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - To celebrate the animated film "Tinker Bell," Disney’s most famous fairy and four of her best friends are featured in a new meet-and-greet experience in Mickey’s Toontown Fair at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort.

Tinker Bell, made famous in the 1953 Disney animated classic "Peter Pan," for her "hostess" role in Disney television specials and for "flying" above the Disney theme parks, is joined by four fairy friends: Fawn, an animal fairy; Iridessa, a light fairy; Rosetta, a garden fairy; and Silvermist, a water fairy. Guests can learn more about the Disney Fairies at disneyfairies.com.

Inside the Disney Ambassador Program: A True-Life Fairy Tale Revealed

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Much like Cinderella’s Prince Charming searching for the perfect fit in the glass slipper, Disney officials have spent the last few months rigorously looking for a select few cast members who can step into the role of Walt Disney World Ambassador, a 44-year tradition that offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences for those who demonstrate poise, passion and knowledge of Disney heritage.
The honor of being selected Disney Ambassador began during the 10th anniversary of Disneyland when Walt was overwhelmed with requests for appearances and needed a few good surrogates. He selected the first Ambassador in 1964, and the tradition has continued ever since.

Serving as the face of the company and good will ambassador to the world, the 2008 Walt Disney World Ambassador Team of Kerri MacPherson (originally from Melrose, Mass.) and TC Newman (originally from Tustin, Calif.) has participated in more than 1,300 events, visited 38 children’s hospitals during a 22-city national tour and logged tens of thousands of miles traveling to Disney destinations around the globe during a term of service that began in January. They’ve hosted VIPs and dignitaries at Walt Disney World Resort, cut hundreds of grand-opening ribbons, shared third-shift breakfasts at 1 a.m. and read story books to Central Florida children.

Their successor team will participate in training during November for the year-long temporary assignment that begins Jan. 1, 2009. For them, the experience of representing the 62,000 cast members of Walt Disney World Resort will make it one of the most memorable years of their lives. (Source: Press Release, 10/14/08)

Just in time for Halloween: Face Painting Tips from a Disney Parks Expert

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - A glitter-dusted tiara for a dainty princess...a bandana, eye patch and a scruffy beard for a pirate...whimsical wings for a fairy...brightly colored stripes and wispy whiskers for a not-so-ferocious tiger.

Instead of buying additional costume accessories to create these looks, why not try painting them on? Face painting is popular with guests of all ages at Walt Disney World, and it’s a great - and safe - way to enhance any costume. Not only can the looks be more customized to the child’s personality, the child’s range of vision is not affected as it could be in a store-bought mask.

Here are some timely tips for applying face makeup from Rebecca Downin, one of the face painting artists in Mickey’s Toontown Fair in the Magic Kingdom:

* Always use a water-based theatrical makeup, one that is hypo-allergenic and non-toxic.
* Begin the design by using a soft, round sponge to apply the larger areas of color on the child’s face.
* Then, use thin brushes (smaller brushes from local craft stores will do nicely) to paint on details and lines.
* Once done with the design, use baby wipes and moist cotton swabs to clean up the edges. Then, make any needed corrections.
* For an extra-special, finishing touch, use the detail end of a small brush to apply a dab or two of non-metallic, round-cut glitter. (Source: Press Release, 10/14/08)

Blue Sky Cellar Unveils Exciting New Magic Coming to Disney’s California Adventure Park

ANAHEIM, Calif., October 15, 2008 - Nestled in the Golden Vine Winery at the base of Grizzly Peak in Disney’s California Adventure Park, the Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar is a place where Guests will get an exclusive sneak preview of what is new and what is in store for the expansion of the Disneyland Resort. Beginning October 20, Guests will view working models as well as dozens of concepts and sketches from Disney Imagineers, the creative minds behind the design and construction of Disney theme parks and attractions.

With Blue Sky Cellar, Guests will be invited for the first time to preview works in progress at Disneyland Resort by immersing themselves in a facsimile of an Imagineering workspace. Based on the belief that idea gathering is best when "the sky’s the limit," the Blue Sky Cellar is designed to resemble an Imagineering "charette," an extended creative idea development meeting. Guests receive an inside-look at how Imagineers take "blue sky" ideas and refine them into the classic storytelling that characterizes Disney Theme Park attractions and adventures.

In this whimsical immersive setting, Imagineers have taken over a former wine cellar and set up shop. Wine barrels have turned into work stations and the former wine tasting room has become a screening room where videos showcase the behind-the-scenes magic that goes into the creation of new and upcoming attractions for Disney’s California Adventure.

Guests will view several new attraction models, including the newly envisioned Paradise Pier area with its turn-of-the-20th-Century look, ride vehicle maquettes from Toy Story Mania!; and the new character overlays to the Games of the Boardwalk. Special features include updates and character additions to attractions such as Mickey’s Fun Wheel (an enhancement of the current Sun Wheel) and Silly Symphony Swings (a refreshed and rethemed Orange Stinger).

Brand new sketches and artwork line the walls including images of the new entrance area, soon to be known as Buena Vista Street, which will bring to life a nostalgic look at Los Angeles from the 1920s and 30s when Walt Disney first arrived in California; a Red Car trolley, reminiscent of the Pacific Electric Railway; and a new central plaza area including a replica of the Carthay Circle Theatre, where Walt premiered Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The "coming soon" area features images of Disney’s World of Color and The Little Mermaid attraction, and looks even further ahead to Cars Land, a 12-acre expansion of the Park which will bring to life the town of Radiator Springs from the Disney/Pixar animated film Cars, complete with three new attractions for the whole family. Additionally, Guests in Blue Sky Cellar will have fun testing their knowledge of Disney trivia at one of the interactive workstations.

The screening room features Imagineers describing the approach and vision of the Disney California Adventure expansion. Guests will see footage of model-making, sculpting, blue sky meetings and all the aspects of bringing a Disney concept to life.

Included in the original announcement of the multi-year expansion of the Disneyland Resort in Fall 2007, the Blue Sky Cellar is part of the overall commitment to keep the community and Disneyland Resort Guests informed of the exciting new and upcoming plans for the Resort. Future updates will focus on other new areas and attractions, and Guests are invited to return periodically for additional exciting information. (Source: Press Release, 10/15/08)

T-Rex at Downtown Disney Takes Guests on a Dining Adventure to a Prehistoric Time as Restaurant Debuts in October

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Walt Disney World guests can go on an adventure back in time to dine among the dinosaurs as T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure, A Place to Eat, Shop, Explore and Discover® opens it doors at Downtown Disney in mid October.

T-Rex, developed by Schussler Creative, Inc. and operated by Landry’s Restaurants, Inc., features dining and retail in a 30,000-square-foot, 600-seat, family-friendly interactive prehistoric environment. The concept is built around water, fire and ice: Guests are greeted with life-size animatronic dinosaurs among cascading waterfalls, bubbling geysers, a fossil dig site and much more.

Schussler Creative Chairman Steve Schussler, the founder of Rainforest Cafe and the T-Rex restaurant, depicts the experience as "edutainment," noting that this "treat for all five senses" includes artifacts such as fossils – all carefully labeled – that are hundreds of millions of years old, carefully crafted animatronic dinosaurs, and even a meteorite found in Argentina.

A full-size skeleton replica of Argentinosaurus, one of the largest of the dinosaurs and copied from a museum specimen about 125 feet in length, looms over the entrance, joined by a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton.

The prehistoric theme extends to the menu, which features items with names such as Caesarsaurus (Caesar salad), Raptor Ribs (Asian BBQ ribs), Pterodactyl Wings (Buffalo chicken wings), Triassic Tortellini (tri-colored cheese tortellini) and Gigantosaurus Burger (think really big hamburger!).

Beth, our travel agent, writes:

1. 2010 itineraries will become available for booking on Tuesday, October 14. This is for cruise-only reservations; land/sea and group space will be out later.

2. New for 2010: northern Europe

These are 12-night cruises out of Dover, England on the Disney Magic in June and July. Ports include Oslo, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Warnemunde (for Berlin, Germany), and St. Petersburg (with optional excursion to Moscow). Pricing for an inside category 11 cabin start at $3649 p/p (based on double occupancy). Rates for a category 11 inside cabin are from $2529 (based on double occupancy).

3. Also for summer 2010: Mediterranean

The Magic will also be doing 10- and 11-night Med cruises from Barcelona similar to the ones a few years ago, but with three new ports: Tunis, Malta and Corsica (in addition to ports in Italy, France and Spain). These will be in April, May, August, and September.

4. There are 4 repositioning cruises as well. These include two 14-night trans-Atlantic trips and two 8-night cruises between Dover and Barcelona. I haven't seen pricing on those yet.

5. The Disney Wonder will also be making some changes for summer 2010. She will be doing 5- night cruises that include Nassau, Key West and Castaway Cay (or 2 stops in Castaway Cay instead of Key West). Pricing on the 5-nighters starts at $899 p/p. There will also be 4-nighters that start at $849 p/p... again, both based on category 11 inside cabins and double occupancy.

*** Anytime new itineraries are released the first day of booking is insane. The pricing goes up by the minute. Those interested should provide booking info (legal names, dates of birth, address, phone #, Castaway numbers) if interested along with the itinerary and approximate date/cabin category desired. We'll do our best to book right when the trips are released for the very best pricing. We MAY also be able to offer an additional incentive of onboard credits.

No idea what happened to the rumor of New York itineraries for summer '10... Perhaps they just tossed those out to mislead us! The new itineraries are loaded onto the agent website now and should be up soon for the consumer site. Please let me know if you have any questions."

Abundance Of Fall Fun At Disneyland Resort As New Shows And Attractions Enhance Traditional Halloween And Holiday Seasons

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The giant Mickey Mouse Jack-o’-Lantern and the Town Square Christmas Tree will be the symbols of celebration for their respective holidays at Disneyland this fall. But the traditional fan favorites are only the beginning as Disneyland Resort welcomes new shows and immersive experiences, along with an exciting preview of things to come at Disney’s California Adventure park.

It’s all part of the fun as Disney Parks poses the question to guests: "What Will You Celebrate?" Whether it’s the holidays, an anniversary, a family reunion or another special occasion, there’s something for everyone at Disneyland Resort.

The fall season kicks off with a very special event: a once-in-a-lifetime private party in Disneyland for teen sensation Miley Cyrus. "Miley’s Sweet 16 - Share The Celebration" will take place Sunday evening, Oct. 5, inside Disneyland. (The ticketed event is sold out). Miley will celebrate with family, friends and fans, perform a couple of songs, and recognize the outstanding contributions of Youth Service America, an organization that seeks to improve communities by increasing the number and diversity of young people serving as volunteers.

Beginning later in October, guests can enjoy an array of new attractions at Disneyland Resort, adding to the fun of the Halloween and Holiday seasons.

* HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: On Friday, Oct. 24, "High School Musical 3: Right Here! Right Now!" premieres at Disney’s California Adventure. The new street show celebrates the infectious energy of the upcoming theatrical motion picture "High School Musical 3: Senior Year." Featuring a cast of 14 dynamic singers and dancers, the show takes place on a traveling "rock concert" stage with stacks of speakers and rows of lights. Interactive sequences featuring hot new songs from the movie will draw guests into the streets of Disney’s California Adventure for an exciting live concert experience.

* PIXIE HOLLOW: The magical realm of Pixie Hollow appears in Disneyland on Tuesday, October 28. Entering along a pathway with an enchanted pool, between the entrances of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, guests are gradually immersed into the community of fairies. Guests will get the strange feeling that they are shrinking to fairy size as they encounter statues of Tinker Bell and her friends, and spot other evidence of the pixies’ presence. When guests arrive at Tinker Bell’s home, they will meet some of the pixies in person.

* BLUE SKY CELLAR: For those who want to stay in-the-know about the expansion of Disney’s California Adventure park, a preview center opens Monday, Oct. 20 at the Golden Vine Winery in Disney’s California Adventure. The Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar - named for the Imagineers’ ‘blue sky’ creative process - displays never-before-seen models and art outlining the concepts and design for the park’s coming attractions, along with a video presentation. The showcase will be updated regularly so that fans can stay abreast of developments.

* SLEEPING BEAUTY CASTLE WALKTHROUGH: Sleeping Beauty Castle, a beloved Disneyland landmark since the park’s debut in 1955, will open a "reawakened" version of its classic Castle walkthrough in time for the December holiday season. The new scenes inside the corridors tell the Sleeping Beauty story with modern special effects technology that recreates the look of the original Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough of the 1950s through the 1970s.

The new attractions and shows offer added value for Disney fans this fall as they enjoy all the traditional holiday attractions at Disneyland Resort.

Halloween highlights at Disneyland include the 16-foot-tall Mickey Mouse Jack-o’-Lantern on Main Street, U.S.A.; Woody’s Halloween Roundup at Big Thunder Ranch; and Haunted Mansion Holiday, inspired by Tim Burton’s "Nightmare Before Christmas," which continues into the Christmas season.

At Disney’s California Adventure, Halloween is celebrated at Candy Corn Acres, featuring Goofy’s whimsical candy corn "crops." Families also will enjoy a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience at the separate-admission nighttime Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat party, with treat locations throughout the park.

The Christmas holiday season gets underway on Friday, Nov. 21, when the traditional "A Christmas Fantasy" daily parade and "Believe ... in Holiday Magic" fireworks make their seasonal debuts. The towering Christmas tree appears on Main Street, U.S.A., and the décor and nighttime show surrounding Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle will be will be more spectacular than ever. The lights and effects that appear after dark extend into Disneyland Central Plaza, down Main Street, U.S.A., and to the Christmas tree at Town Square for a sparkling transformation that sets the scene for "Believe ... In Holiday Magic" fireworks with their magical snowfall finale.

Additional holiday highlights include the return, Nov. 21, of the "it’s a small world" holiday attraction, celebrating holiday traditions around the world. Guests will visit Santa Claus throughout the season at Santa’s Reindeer Round-up in Big Thunder Ranch, and those looking for a unique experience may book time with a guide for Disney’s Holiday tours.

Hannah Montana’S Miley Cyrus Celebrates Her Sweet 16 At Disneyland With Friends And Fans

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Fireworks sparkled in the night sky at Disneyland and more than 5,000 party guests sang "Happy Birthday" to Disney star Miley Cyrus Sunday at "Miley’s Sweet 16 - Share the Celebration," a music-filled bash kicking off Disney’s "What Will You Celebrate?" invitation to guests of all ages.

Miley, star of the wildly popular Disney Channel series Hannah Montana, celebrated her milestone birthday with family, friends, fans and special guests from Youth Service America, an organization that shares her passion for promoting youth volunteerism.

In one of the evening’s big highlights, Disney CEO Bob Iger presented a special gift of $1 million to Youth Service America on behalf of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Disney has worked with YSA since 2004, providing "Disney Minnie Grants" to support youth-led community service projects that engage young people between the ages of five to 14 from around the world.

"On behalf of everyone at Disney, I’m happy to wish Miley a very happy birthday and celebrate this special occasion with a donation to Youth Service America," Iger said. "We’re delighted to have Miley join in Disney’s great legacy of giving back through volunteerism while encouraging kids everywhere to do the same."

Miley arrived at the Disneyland bash on a purple carpet (her favorite color), joined by her family, pals and fellow Disney Channel stars.

"I always love coming to Disneyland and this is the most amazing Sweet 16 celebration a girl could ask for," Miley said. "This is a night I'll never forget."

Guests of the "Sweet 16" party celebrated like rock stars alongside Miley and other celebrities, including actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, actor Steve Carell, super model Cindy Crawford and "Dancing with the Stars" performers such as Cristián De La Fuente. The party came to life for fans in a big way as the world’s most popular teenager rocked the Rivers of America, singing four of her popular songs, including "See You Again" and "Girls Night Out." The Hollywood Records musical artist dazzled the crowd by boarding a floating stage to cross over to the banks of the river, getting up close with her fans as she sang.

Miley also invited 10 "Service Stars" from Youth Service America to the party to honor their extraordinary volunteer service. They joined Miley and her fans for the fun in Disneyland park, riding favorite attractions such as Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion, watching a "Stars in Cars" celebrity cavalcade, and playing at the party zones, including Rock Out Stage and Hannah Montana Makeover Zone.

The gala ended with a spectacular farewell in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle, featuring Miley, her father Billy Ray Cyrus and a beautiful birthday cake. Everyone posed for a commemorative photo and sang "Happy Birthday" and Miley thanked them for celebrating with her. Just as she blew out the candles, the sky lit up with a glitzy fireworks display set to the Hannah Montana smash hit, "Best of Both Worlds."

Disney Cruise Line Sets Sail For Russia, Northern Europe and Mediterranean in 2010

In response to guest demand, Disney Cruise Line will reposition one of its ships, Disney Magic, to Europe for an unprecedented five-month season of Northern European and Mediterranean cruises in 2010.

With a wide variety of European itineraries in 2010, families have the ability to explore exotic and unexpected destinations with the safety and comfort of traveling with Disney Cruise Line, the leader in family cruising.

For the first time, Disney Cruise Line will offer a 12-night Northern European Capitals cruise, where guests can experience breathtaking fjords, historic city centers and Viking lore at enchanting Scandinavian ports such as Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm. The ship will also sail to Warnemunde, Germany, gateway to Berlin, and to St. Petersburg, Russia. The Disney Magic will overnight in St. Petersburg, allowing Disney Cruise Line guests time to experience the city known as the "Cultural Capital of Russia" or use the second day to book a shore excursion to Moscow.

"The Northern European Capitals itinerary provides our guests with an amazing collection of destinations to explore," said Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin. "We’re excited to bring the rich history, culture and folklore these ports offer to life for our guests in a family-friendly way only Disney Cruise Line can deliver."

Book-ending the summer season in Northern Europe, the Disney Magic will once again return to the Mediterranean with 10- and 11-night cruises, but with three new ports of call not offered when Disney Cruise Line last sailed the Mediterranean. In addition to popular ports in Italy, France and Spain, the Disney Magic will visit Tunis, in Northern Africa, the island nation of Malta, and Corsica, an island oasis off the southern coast of France known as the birthplace of Napoleon.

"The response from guests who sailed on our Mediterranean voyages in 2007 was overwhelmingly positive," said McAlpin. "We’re thrilled to bring the ship back and look to make the 2010 season in the Mediterranean even better, with new destinations and more one-of-a-kind Disney experiences for our guests."

Departing out of Barcelona, Spain, the Disney Magic will sail four 10-night and four 11-night cruises in the Mediterranean in April, May, August and September. Rates for the 10- and 11-night Mediterranean cruises start at $2,529 per person for a category 11 stateroom.
