Beth, our travel agent, writes:
"In the last newsletter issue you had a link to an article about weddings on Disney ships and at Castaway Cay, and I just wanted to add my two cents.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of helping to plan several Disney and Disney Cruise Line weddings for clients. I was a wedding planner at one point in the past and I do miss it sometimes, so getting a taste of it occasionally is fun. I even had the honor of being invited to a vow renewal ceremony on the Disney Magic once. It was really lovely. Anyway, over the years I’ve learned a few things about trying to plan a Disney Cruise Line wedding…
1) Start planning WAY in advance. Onboard and beach weddings are very popular and they will only do a few of them each sailing. The captain has a lot of say as to how many will be done, and different captains have different preferences. Also, there can only be one wedding/renewal scheduled per time slot, even if the couples choose different locations.
2) You have to stay flexible… For instance, the article mentions the 'secret' deck location on the stern of the Wonder and Magic. It’s a perfect spot for holding a small private ceremony - but it’s not under cover so if the weather looks bad or it’s very windy then you'll have to be moved inside. Another example: if the captain is needed on the bridge, that will take priority over your event.
3) Get out your credit card because it’s going to cost you. Even the most basic of ceremonies is pricey (compared to what you'd spend for something similar at home). As with all things Disney, your imagination is about the only limit to what can be done, but it all comes with a (very large) price tag.
4) You can find some beautiful gifts for each other to commemorate the occasion. For instance, a string of pearls with a Mickey head of larger pearls set in gold in the center. Totally elegant, yet still Disney.
5) If you're bringing along a group of people, don't expect that they will get some nice group discount off their cabin rates. DCL doesn’t need, nor do they seek out, groups like other cruise lines do. They'll probably fill the ship without groups, so their incentive to discount the space is nil. If you've got at least eight cabins, though, then your travel agent may be able to get you some small incentives or perks you wouldn’t get otherwise.
6) Disney is a class act, so the attention to detail is wonderful. The onboard event coordinator does a zillion weddings and has amazing ideas. She’ll meet with you after you board to go over final details and be sure everything is just the way you want it. They solve problems like the pros that they are. I flat-out love working with them.
I could go on, but I'll stop here for now and just summarize by saying that your key to planning the perfect Disney wedding is to start as early as you can and keep an open mind. Affordable Disney members, if you want more information, don't hesitate to drop me a note."

As many of you know, I am an author of Catholic prayer books. One of the best ways to know Jesus more intimately and show our love for Him is through prayer. Prayer keeps us focused on the spiritual life and opens a channel for grace so He can make His presence known to us.

PRAYING THE PSALMS FOR THE UNBORN CHILD

A humble prayer for forgiveness
Prayer for Mercy in Time of Trouble.
1O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your wrath.
2Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am pining away;
Heal me, O LORD, for my bones are dismayed.
3And my soul is greatly dismayed;
But You, O LORD--how long?
4Return, O LORD, rescue my soul;
Save me because of Your lovingkindness.
5For there is no mention of You in death;
In Sheol who will give You thanks?
6I am weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I dissolve my couch with my tears.
7My eye has wasted away with grief;
It has become old because of all my adversaries.
8Depart from me, all you who do iniquity,
For the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.
9The LORD has heard my supplication,
The LORD receives my prayer.
10All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed;

Jesus teaches us to be humble when we pray [15]. We are weak (6:2) and in danger of losing our soul (6:3,4). Let us ask God to deliver us from spiritual death (6:5) for we are filled with sorrow for our sins (6:6) and saddened with grief (6:7) because of the evil that surrounds us (6:8). The Lord will answer our prayer (6:9). He will drive away the fallen angels and shame our enemies (6:10).
Prayer for life: Jesus, I am in trouble and feel vulnerable. Evil preys on the weak and I am afraid of losing my soul. Forgive me, Lord, for in my weakness I have even considered abortion as a solution to my predicament. Defend me against the ungodly who would destroy life. Let those who reject the Word of God be put to shame. Amen.

Also, there can only be one wedding/renewal scheduled per time slot, even if the couples choose different locations.
2) You have to stay flexible… For instance, the article mentions the 'secret' deck location on the stern of the Wonder and Magic. It’s a perfect spot for holding a small private ceremony - but it’s not under cover so if the weather looks bad or it’s very windy then you'll have to be moved inside. Another example: if the captain is needed on the bridge, that will take priority over your event.
3) Get out your credit card because it’s going to cost you. Even the most basic of ceremonies is pricey (compared to what you'd spend for something similar at home). As with all things Disney, your imagination is about the only limit to what can be done, but it all comes with a (very large) price tag.
4) You can find some beautiful gifts for each other to commemorate the occasion. For instance, a string of pearls with a Mickey head of larger pearls set in gold in the center. Totally elegant, yet still Disney.
5) If you're bringing along a group of people, don't expect that they will get some nice group discount off their cabin rates. DCL doesn’t need, nor do they seek out, groups like other cruise lines do. They'll probably fill the ship without groups, so their incentive to discount the space is nil. If you've got at least eight cabins, though, then your travel agent may be able to get you some small incentives or perks you wouldn’t get otherwise.
6) Disney is a class act, so the attention to detail is wonderful. The onboard event coordinator does a zillion weddings and has amazing ideas. She’ll meet with you after you board to go over final details and be sure everything is just the way you want it. They solve problems like the pros that they are. I flat-out love working with them.

LET US PRAY...
As many of you know, I am an author of Catholic prayer books. One of the best ways to know Jesus more intimately and show our love for Him is through prayer. Prayer keeps us focused on the spiritual life and opens a channel for grace so He can make His presence known to us.

Psalm 6
A humble prayer for forgiveness
Prayer for Mercy in Time of Trouble.
1O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger,
Nor chasten me in Your wrath.
2Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am pining away;
Heal me, O LORD, for my bones are dismayed.
3And my soul is greatly dismayed;
But You, O LORD--how long?
4Return, O LORD, rescue my soul;
Save me because of Your lovingkindness.
5For there is no mention of You in death;
In Sheol who will give You thanks?
6I am weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I dissolve my couch with my tears.
7My eye has wasted away with grief;

Jesus teaches us to be humble when we pray [15]. We are weak (6:2) and in danger of losing our soul (6:3,4). Let us ask God to deliver us from spiritual death (6:5) for we are filled with sorrow for our sins (6:6) and saddened with grief (6:7) because of the evil that surrounds us (6:8). The Lord will answer our prayer (6:9). He will drive away the fallen angels and shame our enemies (6:10).
Prayer for life: Jesus, I am in trouble and feel vulnerable. Evil preys on the weak and I am afraid of losing my soul. Forgive me, Lord, for in my weakness I have even considered abortion as a solution to my predicament. Defend me against the ungodly who would destroy life. Let those who reject the Word of God be put to shame. Amen.
