Beth, our travel agent, made the following observations regarding Disney's transportation program, Magical Express:

1. When will I receive my Magical Express documents?

Disney's Answer: Your travel agents will receive your Air Transportation Booklet two weeks before your flight.

Beth writes: "Fortunately, it doesn't matter if you have them or not. If you don't have your bags tagged it only takes a few extra minutes at the counter so they can collect the baggage information. Everything else is the same, and the service proceeds just as if all your bags were tagged."

2. How long is the trip from the airport to the WDW hotel?

Disney's Answer: One hour and 40 minutes.

Beth writes: "Once the bus actually departs the airport, should
reach the first hotel in about 30 minutes. Most Magical Express
buses stop at THREE hotels, though, so if your hotel is the last
on the list it will (obviously) take longer. None of the luggage
goes on the buses, though, so they are only stopping for about 5
minutes to let everyone off and then continue to the next resort. Even if you're the last stop you should be there within an hour. Buses depart the airport frequently, so if you've just missed one the next one will be leaving very soon."

3. When will my luggage arrive from the airport?

Disney's Answer: Allow six hours. Take a small bag with you for important items while you're waiting.

Beth writes: "For the most part, luggage should arrive in your room within 3-4 hours. Of course, if you arrive in the morning, the luggage won't be delivered until your room is ready (officially 3:00) no matter how long you've been there. Taking a carry-on for valuables, medications, and things you'll need until you get your luggage is VERY important!"

4. When do I leave my hotel to return to the airport?

About two hours and 45 minutes before your plane leaves."

Free airport parking? Beth, our travel agent, writes:

"If you're a Florida resident that flies from time to time then you learn very quickly that Orlando often has fares significantly lower than other airports in the state. While driving several hours to the Orlando airport to save $50 may not make any sense, if you're going to save hundreds then it's worth a thought. I did it myself once, and checked into a Days Inn near the airport that allowed me to leave my car there while I was gone. They provided free transportation to the airport and back, too. It was a yucky hotel with nothing to do close by, but I saved a lot on the air.

Now, though, I and the rest of my fellow Floridians have another option! Disney confirms that you ARE permitted to leave your car parked at Disney for free and use their new complimentary airport shuttle service provided you spend at least one night before and one night after your trip at a Disney hotel, and it has to be the SAME hotel on both ends.

You just add one-way Magical Express information to each reservation, and let the front desk know that you'll be leaving your car in the lot until you get back.

(Note that only Disney resort guests with reservations can use the Magical Express, so you can't stay offsite and then just park at Disney and use their airport transfers.)"

Beth, our travel agent, sends this Magical Express tip:

"When you put a Magical Express baggage tag on your luggage before you leave home, you will not see it again until it gets to your room. That can take four hours (or more, in some cases) after you arrive at the resort!

The reason is that the baggage tags are scanned when they arrive at the airport, then they are scanned when they get loaded into the Disney containers. The containers are held at the airport until they are full and then they get sent to the appropriate areas of the resort. (Several hotels can be loaded into one container.)

Not all airlines are quick about getting the bags from the belt to that container for loading. When the bags finally get the hotel they are scanned a third time, and then each name has to be looked up on a master room list to have the room put on them. Finally, the bags are delivered to the rooms and scanned one more time as they are dropped off.

In other words, they go to great lengths to be sure that your bags are carefully tracked - but it all takes time. It is strongly recommended that you take along a carry-on with anything you might need in the first few hours (change of clothes, bathing suites, etc.)

You have the option of NOT putting the Magical Express tags on your bags {or tagging all but one), and grabbing them off the conveyor belt yourself at the airport. Any bag that doesn't have a Magical Express tag will not be grabbed behind the scenes, so you can get to them easily. At that point, you'd check in for the bus and take the suitcase(s) on the bus with you.

This would be especially good if you're arriving late at night and don't want to be disturbed by baggage delivery. This tip was given to me by Magical Express personnel, so I know that they're OK with it."

Q: Does Disney do air? Does everyone have to fly from the same place?

A: Beth, our travel agent, writes: "Yes, Disney will do your air for you, but only if you are getting a package and only if you need domestic air. Sometimes they have better rates than you can get otherwise, but more often the rate is the same or even higher than what you can get otherwise. So it pays to see what Disney can do, and if they can beat or match what you find then great. If not, don't hesitate to do the air separately. And no, not everyone in the room has to fly from the same place, but Disney's online reservation system can't handle multiple origin points so you'll have to go through a travel agent or Disney directly to get the different cities."

Grand Celebration Opens New Fantasyland, Largest Expansion Ever at Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom

The star of “Once Upon a Time” kicked off the “happily ever after” at the grand opening Thursday of New Fantasyland, the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays Snow White on the hit ABC-TV drama, joined pop star Jordin Sparks and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs in ceremonies filled with favorite Disney characters, daytime fireworks and timeless melodies from classic Disney films.

"Walt Disney once promised that Disneyland, and by extension all of our parks, would never be complete as long as there is imagination left in the world," Staggs said. "New Fantasyland is a spectacular addition to the Magic Kingdom that delivers on Walt’s promise. We’re thrilled to take guests beyond the walls of Cinderella Castle to discover new worlds featuring iconic Disney characters and stories in ways that are more imaginative, more interactive and more immersive than ever before."

New Fantasyland features attractions, dining, shopping, character interactions, recreation and more - laid out fairy tale-style amid waterfalls, grottoes, arched bridges, forests and circus big tops. A multiyear expansion project that doubles the size of the existing Fantasyland, the sprawling new area lies just beyond the existing Fantasyland in the shadows of Cinderella Castle.

New Fantasyland consists of the Enchanted Forest and Storybook Circus areas. Walt Disney Imagineers brought to life beloved Disney stories and magical places, putting guests in the middle of Disney classics and new favorites – and making memories to last a lifetime. Here’s just a sampling of the new enchanted areas now open in New Fantasyland:

Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid. Guests riding in clamshells travel with Ariel and her friends through their exciting adventures above and below the waves - all against the musical backdrop of beloved songs from the film. Before the experience, the fun is whimsical and interactive in the queue area under Prince Eric’s Castle. After the attraction and below the seaside cliffs, guests can meet the princess herself in Ariel’s Grotto.

Enchanted Tales with Belle. In a faroff French village, an enchanted mirror becomes the gateway to a new kind of storytelling experience. Through props, costumes and other interaction, guests step right into the story of "Beauty and the Beast" - meeting Belle and Lumiere and sharing in a lively re-telling of the "tale as old as time."

Be Our Guest Restaurant features a lavish dining experience in the elegant ballroom, delicate Rose Gallery and mysterious "West Wing" of the Beast’s Castle. The magnificent space offers "great food fast" - lunch service by day and full-service table dining at night. Both experiences - fittingly for the story of Disney’s "Beauty and the Beast" - feature French-inspired cuisine.

Gaston’s Tavern welcomes guests to a comfy French lodge done in homage to - Gaston himself. The menu of this casual restaurant includes LeFou’s Brew, named for Gaston’s sidekick and a cooling concoction sure to satisfy any thirst.

Dumbo, the Flying Elephant - a Fantasyland icon - has doubled in size. Two Dumbos - one going clockwise and other counterclockwise - take guests circling above Storybook Circus in ride vehicles they maneuver themselves. The two Dumbos are connected to an indoor "big top" allowing guests to enjoy circus-themed activities while awaiting their ride time with the lovable pachyderm.

Aboard The Barnstormer Featuring the Great Goofini, it’s family-style coaster fun as guests dip and soar daredevil-style above the circus grounds. Ride vehicles follow the twisting, turning coaster “flight” of stuntman Goofy.

Beloved Disney characters as aspiring circus stars are on hand to meet their adoring fans in Pete’s Silly Sideshow. Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Donald Duck are decked out in their big top finest to await their big break – and pose for photos with Magic Kingdom guests in the process.

There’s even more in store as the expansion of New Fantasyland continues:

Princess Fairytale Hall (2013) will be the new home for Disney princesses to meet their loyal subjects in the Magic Kingdom. To open in the Castle Courtyard in the center of Fantasyland, the regal space will provide the perfect setting for meeting Cinderella, Aurora, Tiana and the other Disney princesses.

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (2014) will take Magic Kingdom guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The family-style coaster will feature a first-of-its-kind ride system with a train of vehicles that swing back and forth.

Later Thursday, Test Track Presented by Chevrolet was scheduled to rev up its engines in a new re-imagined version of the Epcot attraction that focuses on guests designing their dream wheels, then putting their design to the test. And on Friday, a media preview was scheduled for Splitsville Luxury Lanes at Downtown Disney West Side. The bowling, dining and entertainment complex is slated to open for guests later in December." Donna and I attended a Sandi Patty Christmas concert recently. Jason Crabb, the country singer, was traveling with her. We loved the concert, but were particularly moved by Jason's appeal for us to get involved in World Vision which helps poor children and their families throughout the world. We joined that night. Jason even came to each of us personally to hand us the application papers. We received our info packet this week that introduced us to Nagamma, a 4-year old girl from India, whom we are sponsoring. She is absolutely beautiful and we feel blessed to be able to play a small part in helping her to live a fuller life.

Beth, our travel agent, writes about rental cars at Disney World:

"I love using the Dolphin location because no matter where you are, there's probably a bus to Disney Studios approaching your location and you don't have to remember to request it in advance. You can jump on that bus, then (instead of taking a left through the gates of the Studios) take a short stroll around the lake to the Dolphin.

Car rentals are usually cheapest done in 24 hours increments, so if you pick the car up in the morning to go to SeaWorld or Universal, plan on dropping it off at the Dolphin 24 or 48 hours later. You won't have to rush to get it back at night, AND you can walk back over and start with Disney Studios that morning.

It's also not a big deal to return the car to the airport, giving you an extra hour or so to play compared to using Magical Express. While it costs more to rent a car at the airport because of various taxes and fees, you can usually return the car to the airport for the same price it would have been to return it to the Dolphin or the Car Care Center."

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Father John Riccardo discussed the value of suffering on EWTN's "The Choices We Face." This is what I took away from the conversation:

Why do we suffer? A friend of mine just spent a week in the hospital suffering with massive blood clots in his leg. One of them even broke off and passed through his heart. Thank God it was not big enough to block the artery leading to the heart. It's times like these that we wonder why there is so much suffering in the world - not just physical suffering, but emotional, mental and spiritual suffering as well. You may be upset over the way your children are behaving; or anxious about the health of a loved one; or nervous about losing your job; the list goes on and on. All of these situations cause us much stress and anguish.

As Christians we know that sickness and death are the wages of sin. Adam and Eve rebelled against God and we all continue to suffer as a result. Nothing could reconcile us to the Father except the death of His Son on the cross. Jesus came for only one reason: to die on the cross for our sins. His preaching showed us how to live; His miracles showed us His true divinity. But it was His death that saved us. He looked passive on the cross, but it was His moment of glory. He knew that His dying would bring us eternal life.

God wants us to share in Jesus' glory, in His suffering as well. As St. Paul said in Colossians 1:24: "For now I rejoice in my passion on your behalf, and I complete in my flesh the things that are lacking in the Passion of Christ, for the sake of his body, which is the Church." In other words, we can unite our suffering to our Lord's suffering and that suffering can bear fruit for others.

Just as Jesus' suffering and death led to His resurrection and our eternal salvation, our Lord can use our suffering to bring about much good. For example, we can offer our suffering up for the healing of a loved one, for peace in the world, for the return of an unfaithful spouse. The list is endless. Yet if we believe that St Paul was inspired by God to preach that our suffering continues to bear fruit for the sake of all of us, the Church, then we can trust that our suffering will benefit our brothers and sisters in ways that may not be understood until all is revealed in heaven.

So how do we deal with our suffering? We can moan and complain about our misfortune or we can unite our suffering to the suffering of our Lord on the cross and offer it up for the good of our family, friends, neighbors, the world. We must not fail to make the most of our suffering. Not that we must enjoy suffering - suffering hurts and no one likes it - but to offer it to God and let Him use it as He sees fit. Just read the news headlines and you'll find plenty of people who need your help. Ask others to give you the names of people for whom you can offer up your suffering. In no time at all you will have a long list of people who can benefit from your suffering. Let's face it, we are all going to suffer. We can waste it by complaining about it or we can let God use it for the benefit of our brothers and sisters.

And suppose that you are one of the lucky ones who is not suffering at the present moment. You can still make some kind of sacrifice for the good of others. You can visit a sick neighbor, or help a stranger in need, or even talk to a relative you hate to talk to! Now that's a sacrifice! And don't forget fasting; give up a candy bar, refuse to watch TV for an evening, skip breakfast. God will love you for it. How will use your suffering?
