"Traveling with toddlers and preschoolers takes lots of advance planning. Now the folks at Disney have made traveling with little ones easier than ever with their new Magical Beginnings... a new program devoted to families with toddlers or preschoolers. They even have their own designated season, Aug. 13 through Sept. 30, traditionally a less-busy time of the year." (Source: Beacon Journal, 08/06/06)

"Starting Sunday, the cost of a one-day ticket to any of Walt Disney World's four parks is going up to $67 -- a 6.3 percent increase, the largest since 1991... The new increases cover most but not all of Disney's ticket prices. Magic Your Way tickets will see prices go up at all levels, about 3 percent to 6 percent. Disney's Park Hopper feature, which allows people to attend any of its parks, goes up $5 to $45. Yet water-park tickets remain the same, as do Florida resident three-day theme-park tickets."

"The daily parade at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is losing its snow globes and getting a touch of Japan. The 'Disney Dreams Come True' parade starts rolling Aug. 10 with new music borrowed from the Tokyo Disneyland parade, new characters and revised floats that get rid of the giant globes that were signature features in the old 'Share a Dream Come True' parade." Disney Waives Fees During Tropical Storm Warnings
"During the 2006 hurricane season, in the event a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area or for the guest's place of residence within 7 days before the scheduled arrival date, the guest may call in advance to reschedule or cancel their Walt Disney Travel Co. Magic Your Way vacation package without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney.
This policy also applies to most Walt Disney World Resort room-only reservations booked directly with Disney, as well as reservations at Disney's Vero Beach Resort or Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort in the event a hurricane warning is issued for those destinations." (Source: WDW Press Release, 08/04/06)
"Universal is offering people a chance to cancel or reschedule anytime a named storm threatens, whether or not a specific hurricane warning is issued for Orlando or their hometowns. Universal calls it a 'no questions asked' policy... SeaWorld also has a general policy allowing people to cancel or reschedule because of hurricanes, but it's informal." Disney is targeting Blacks and Hispanics with a new marketing campaign and changes in the parks. "Some possibilities include offering theme-park shows in Spanish and ensuring that some of the princesses and other characters who roam the parks and interact with guests do so in Spanish. Now those characters only interact with tourists in English." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 08/03/06)
In a related story, the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau is going to focus on attracting Gay tourists. "And though Disney doesn't officially acknowledge Gay Days, its resort is the focal point of the event that drew 140,000 people this year." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 08/03/06)

"The Army is considering a proposal to allow a private developer to build a military theme park that would include '4D' rides and bars including a '1st Division Lounge.' Military officials said a massive entertainment and hotel complex built next to a national Army museum could draw more than 1 million people a year." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 08/08/06)

Renea writes:
"Hello John!
We just returned from our 6 day trip to Disneyworld on Sunday, July 16, 2006.
We stayed the first night at the La Quinta Inn & Suites on Polynesian Isle Blvd in Kissimmee.
This stay was on a 'free night certificate' because 2 years ago we stayed at the La Quinta on Jamaican Court, International Drive and it was awful! The place was dirty and a woman was getting beat up in the room behind us.
The La Quinta in Kissimmee was awesome. We payed $30 more and were upgraded to a kids suite. The property was clean and the employees were very nice. I would recommend this property to someone who didn't want to spend a lot of $ in Orlando. There is also a new Walmart within walking distance.
We checked in to the Grand Floridian (this was our 6th time there) on Wednesday. We had a lagoon view room but they upgraded us to the Main building. If anyone can afford to stay here I highly recommend it.
The hotel is a 5 star and is immaculate. The cleaning people were actually polishing the door jams on the floor at 1 a.m.!
The food in Concierge is non stop and the service is outstanding! Anything you need they give you.
FYI: the other concierge building (the Sugarloaf) will be closed in January for refurbishment.
We are hoping to go back in February of 2007, we will see.
That’s all for now."

2007 Walt Disney World Magic Your Way Vacation Packages have been released.
Beth, our travel agent, writes:
"I'm very disappointed that they still didn't come up with longer tickets. 10 days is still the max, but now you can do up to 14 nigh stays so they WILL allow you to add on a second ticket to cover all your days - but no discount on the second ticket. (In other words, ticket days 5-10 are still costing you next to nothing, but then you'll pay big bucks again for days 11-14.)
In my opinion, aside from being able to do 14-night stays now, the best change is that they've adjusted the premium and platinum plans. These plans are very high-powered with all your meals included, unlimited backstage tours, Cirque tickets, recreation, and more. Previously, they only came with length-of-stay premium tickets (hopping and water parks), but for 2007 you can book them with ANY ticket meaning a 1-day base ticket is just fine.
This is huge for people that have been there many times and really want to focus on dining and many of the non-park things. After all, there's SO much included with these plans that you hardly have time for theme parks! These plans are perfect for adults just looking for an all-inclusive getaway without the kids, especially if one or both people like to golf. It's also nice for annual pass holders and people that already have existing tickets from previous stays."
See our book, "Secrets To An Affordable Walt Disney World® Vacation," for a breakdown of the 2007 vacation packages.
