Beth, our travel agent, sends this update on passports:

"In April 2005, the Departments of State (DOS) and Homeland
Security (DHS) announced a proposed plan to be implemented
in three phases beginning on December 31, 2005 for the
Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. After further review
and considering the delay in publishing the public notice in
the Federal Register, DOS and DHS recognized that
implementing the December 31, 2005, phase would be
problematic for travelers during the upcoming winter tourism
season. This change will simplify the implementation and
provide a longer lead-time for travelers to come into
compliance with the requirements.

In the proposed [revised] implementation plan, which is
subject to a period of initial public comment, the
Initiative will be rolled out in phases, providing as much
advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable
them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed
timeline will be as follows:

* December 31, 2006 - Requirement applied to all air and sea
travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America,
the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
* December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land
border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

What this means is that if you are cruising (or otherwise
traveling outside the US) after December 31 this year and
were scrambling to get a passport, you're probably going to
be off the hook for another year - BUT, that said, we don't
know for sure at this point that this new date scheduled
will pass, and you will have to have a passport eventually,
so if you are inclined to head beyond US borders, you'd
might as well get your passport before the wait is really
long."

NEWS FROM AROUND THE "WORLD"

WALT DISNEY WORLD

The Turf Club at Disney’s Saratoga Springs will change its
name November 1 to The Turf Club Bar and Grill. Disney will
add more items to its menu which will be served indoors and
al fresco for lunch and dinner. Construction should be
complete by next summer. The Turf Club will stay open during
construction. (Source: Promotional email from Walt Disney
World® Resort, 09/13/05)

"Walt Disney World is quietly building a new road onto its
property that could siphon thousands of tourists a day off
Interstate 4. The route would take visitors driving down the
Interstate 75/Florida's Turnpike corridor into Disney from
State Road 429, the Western Beltway toll road being built
through western Orange County." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 09/13/05)

Orlando brought big smiles, laughs and comfort to Hurricane
Katrina survivors temporarily residing in the Red Cross
shelter at the Reliant Center, Sept. 10, 2005."

"Walt Disney World said Wednesday it will outsource
overnight cleaning jobs at its resort hotels and offer other
jobs to the approximately 200 affected workers -- a move
that drew an immediate rebuke from one of the top union
bosses at Disney." (Source: Orlando Sentinel, 09/06/05)

Our Ticket agent has great prices on tickets to Walt Disney

but just learning about [your ticket agent] saved our family
over $300!!! Thanks." Janet Handy, Bel Air, MD

"Plenty of roadside outfits in Orlando promise discounted
tickets, but most of them really want to rope you into a
time-share sales pitch in exchange for vouchers - accept at

Erica writes:

Hi John, I am a subscriber to your on-line book and I was
just wondering how far in advance I should book my honeymoon
at Disney World... I would like to find the best deals but I
don't know how soon I can book or when the best time is. We
would like to stay at Disney for about 5-7 days and we will
be driving... What do you suggest?"

I would have Beth book your vacation now. She will evaluate
what Disney is selling to make sure you get the best deal.
That way you won't risk being shut out. Beth will change
your package at no cost to you if a better deal comes along.
It's a win - win situation.

Now you can relax and focus on your wedding plans!

"A friend told us today that on Mainstreet there is a
barbershop where children can have a haircut, their hair
dyed for a day, and glitter put in there hair. We are
leaving for our affordable disney.com trip on Sunday night
and wonder if you have heard of this."

Yes, it's a real barber shop. I know they have colored hair
gel. I was not aware of the glitter, but that wouldn't
surprise me.

Look for the Harmony Barber Shop on the left side upon
entering, between the car barn and the Emporium.

Hours: 9 AM - 5 PM. Open all week. No appointments accepted
- just walk in.

Haircut: $17 (adults); $14 (kids 12 or younger). Colored
hair gel: $5. Beard trim: $10; mustache trim: $10.
